Batman: Hush Sequel Shares First Peek with Special Prelude: What to Know
Image
Warning: Spoilers for the Batman: Hush sequel! One of the biggest Batman stories of the 2000s is without a doubt Batman: Hush by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. Now, over twenty years later, the superstar team has returned to pen a sequel, and ScreenRant has everything fans need to know before jumping into this classic-in-the-making.

DC recently revealed that Loeb and Lee would be taking over the main Batman series starting with Batman #158, which will kick off the long-awaited sequel to Batman: Hush. Currently, it's unknown exactly what Hush is after or what will happen in this story. But considering the short preview-slash-prelude for the story that was shown at the end of Justice League Unlimited #1 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, readers can make a few guesses.

The original Batman: Hush, a major all-star story, included the majority of the Bat-Family, as well as Clayface, the Joker, Harley Quinn,...

Even Superman Admits This Shock Hero Is Batman's Equal as a Fighter
Image
Batman is one of the most skilled fighters and planners in the DC Universe, but Superman knows Harley Quinn is absolutely Bruce Wayne's equal. There are very few characters who could possibly match the skills that Batman has spent his entire life honing, which is why this comparison is so surprising.

During the events of Heroes in Crisis by Tom King and Clay Mann, there is a brutal massacre at Sanctuary, a place where heroes are able to go for therapy and emotional support. The only two survivors of this massacre, Booster Gold and Harley Quinn, blame the other for causing it. This leads the Trinity to trying to solve who is responsible, and they end up seeing Harley Quinn's full potential.

Cornered by Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman, it seems that Harley Quinn is going to be taken into custody for questioning. Instead, she manages to steal Wonder Woman's lasso,...

10 Greatest Justice Society of America Stories, Ranked
Image
While many readers consider the Justice League the flagship superhero team of DC Comics, that spot was once held by the Justice Society of America. As the first superhero team in comic book history, the Jsa has played host to some of the greatest heroes in the company's roster, with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman all having served. Having been around for over eight decades, the team have one of the richest collections of adventures in comics.

The Justice Society may not have the attention or fame in the mainstream as the Justice League, but their place in the DC Universe is beyond question. The team represents the value the company has historically placed on legacy and history, something accentuated by the older heroes' mentorship of younger characters. Having made their presence known in some recent events, the team's adventures are still some of the best in comics, and offer readers a blend of fantasy,...

Power Girl's New Romance Transcends the Clich of Cringey Superhero Love Lives
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Power Girl #12!There are a lot of romances throughout the history of superhero comics, including for Power Girl. For some fans, romance is the sole reason to read a comic: to be able to "ship" two beloved characters together in a new way. Superhero stories usually only leave room, however, for brief love affairs in between alien assualts on earth, and not a lot of time for the real stuff of romance: dumb cute dates, like Power Girl's with Axel Gust.

Power Girl of the Superman Family is doing this romance thing right. In Power Girl #12 by Leah Williams and Travis Moore, she takes her relationship with the magical hero Axel Gust to the next level - Valhalla, that is.

After a sweet day of adventuring where nothing else happens in the comic except their own dating life in a mythological realm, Paige Stetler and Axel...

Superman's inner demons manifest in a horrifying physical form, revealing his struggle with two conflicting identities. The two-headed monster symbolizes Superman's battle to reconcile his personas of Clark Kent and Superman. Superman's secret fear of never merging his identities exposes his insecurity, showing that even heroes struggle.

Superman is one of the most iconic superheroes in the DC Universe, his unwavering smile and optimism inspiring hope in the hearts of many. However, Superman has faced a monstrous transformation that suggests that there's more to the Man of Steel than what he displays on the surface.

In the story "The Crucible" by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Cully Hamner, Dave McCaig, and AndWorld Design from Dog Days of Summer #1, Superman brings Krypto along as he infiltrates a mysterious alien ship that arrives on Earth. The preview of Power Girl #12 shows Paige on a date in Asgard, receiving a gift from the mysterious Axel Gust. The Super-Family getting weapons as part of their character design is a rad idea for the Absolute Universe.

I Think I Know Who DC's Version of Loki Is (He Could Change Kryptonian Lore Forever)
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Power Girl #11!

DC may have its own version of Loki in Axel Gust, revealed to be from Asgard in Power Girl #11. Axel and Power Girl develop a romantic relationship, leading to a confrontation with a supervillain named Aquus. The possibility of Axel being Loki himself or related to him could potentially shake up the foundation of DC Comics.

I could be wrong, but it looks like DC Comics is about to get its own version of Loki, and I say that knowing how much we all love Marvel's version of the Norse legend. Even those who don't follow Loki's journey in the comics have likely found themselves enamored with Tom Hiddleston's portrayal in the MCU. He's a likable chap, but I think DC has a chance to do better.

DC fans had better get familiar with the name Axel Gust, because I think DC is priming...

Wonder Woman Admits Her Closest Ally Shouldn't Be a Superhero

Almost every hero in the DC Universe has a sidekick: Batman and Robin, Green Arrow and Speedy, Flash and Kid Flash, and, of course Wonder Woman and Wonder Girl. But it seems Wonder Woman wouldn't have picked Wonder Girl if she had a say, putting in doubt Diana's desire to actually have a sidekick trainee.

Sidekicks aren't a new thing for superheroes. Ever since the explosive debut of Dick Grayson's Robin in 1940, it seems like almost every superhero in comics has had a sidekick at one point or another. And many sidekicks are specifically chosen by their mentors: Batman, for example, was there for Dick Grayson after the murder of his parents — a situation similar to Bruce Wayne's childhood trauma. There are so many sidekicks that there are entire teams devoted just to them, such as Young Justice, which Wonder Girl Cassie Sandsmark leads. But it seems Wonder Woman...

While DC Pride 2021 was a success, 2022 gave even more heroes a chance to show their pride. It was all capped off with a well-written autobiographical comic from the late Kevin Conroy that showed the struggles he faced before becoming Batman because of his sexuality. Now, DC Pride 2023 is right around the corner, and it's already arriving in style with the reveal of some amazing variant covers.

In an official blog post on the DC Comics website, the comic publisher highlighted some of its biggest announcements for this year's celebration.

The team is set to appear in Nightwing #104 with yet another spectacular cover from main series artist Bruno Redondo. The cover mimics Supa Hot Fire's popular "Battle Rap Reaction" Gif. Nightwing & the Titans Have Never Looked Better in Gala-Inspired Cover Art
Image
Warning: Potential Spoilers for Nightwing #103Dc's most stylish team, the Titans, have united for a gala-inspired portrait in a new Nightwing cover. The latest in a series of Nightwing and Titans covers by artist Travis Moore, this art will have fans convinced this superhero team is red carpet ready.

Travis Moore's new Nightwing variant cover art was released with DC's April solicitations, which featured information for Nightwing #103. The cover—the latest in Moore's series of team-bonding covers for the critically-acclaimed series—sees Nightwing and the Titans dressed to the nines, ready more for the Met Gala than a battle with Deathstroke.

The cover features Dick Grayson, of course, in the center, sitting on a couch with Starfire. They're surrounded by their other teammates, all dressed in formal wear: Donna Troy, Raven, Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Wally West. The women in particular are dressed in floor-length gowns, adorned in sparkles and feathers and more.

Superman's New Costume May Finally Make His Electric '90s Reboot Worth It
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Superman: Son of Kal-El #18His "Electric Blue" costume didn't amount to anything long-term decades ago, but Superman's 1990s reboot suit may finally prove to be worthwhile through his son, Jon Kent. Back in 1998, Clark Kent's traditional look was updated to reflect the new energy-based powers that he had adopted at the time. These powers came with a blue and white suit used to contain all of that energy. This would quickly evolve into two suits when a plot conceived by Cyborg Superman and Toyman split the Last Son of Krypton into two people: Superman Red and Superman Blue. The two versions of Supes would eventually merge back together, reducing Superman back to his normal self before the initial status quo change, rendering the reboot attempt kind of mute.

However, it seems that the Superman Blue costume will be making a comeback, not to be adorned by Clark Kent,...

In a new preview for Nightwing #101 by DC Comics, the solicitation reveals that the Titans will form again. While members aren't shown, the preview heavily suggests the most iconic characters of the Teen Titans, including Starfire and Cyborg, will be part of the newest iteration of the roster.

The Teen Titans are one of DC's premier superteams, as the group formed in DC Comics Presents #26 in 1980, quickly becoming one of the most beloved groups of heroes in all of comics. The original roster consisted of Nightwing, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and Beast Boy, with those heroes playing key roles on the Teen Titans and later the Titans, an older iteration of the team. In recent storylines, the Titans helped run Titans Academy,...

In new variant cover art for the upcoming Nightwing #100, Dick Grayson, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, The Flash, Wonder Girl, and Beast Boy reunite as the former team reunites in the stunning new image from Travis Moore.

The Teen Titans are one of DC's most recognizable superteams, as the group of young heroes has had many iterations working together as a team since their first appearance in The Brave and the Bold #54 back in 1964. The original roster featured the likes of Wally West's Kid Flash, Dick Grayson's Robin, Aqualad, and Wonder Girl, later joined by more prominent faces in the DC Universe. However, the most recognizable version of the team formed in George Perez and...

‘Sins of the Black Flamingo #1’ Review
Image
Written by Andrew Wheeler | Art by Travis Moore | Published by Image Comics

This was a purely random pick-up from me, but one with some logic attached. Firstly, it’s Image, and lately that has been quite the mark of quality. There have been some great books coming out from them of late, and Marvel and DC better watch out. Only so many Bat and Spidey books you can pump out before things get stale after all. Secondly, it’s set in Miami, and I love a bit of Miami. Thirdly, it’s got a great cover, shades of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in there. The preview blurb also sounded promising, all of which adds up to a ‘let’s give this a chance’ review.

Let’s take a look.

From the very first intriguing page, style oozes out from every panel. We are, of course, in Florida, and our...

‘Shazam: Lightning Strikes #1’ Review (DC Digital)
Image
Written by Dan Jurgens | Art by Travis Moore | Published by DC Digital

Never really enjoyed the fact that the original Captain Marvel, the real Captain Marvel, can’t be called that due to Marvel’s use of the name for their characters. Don’t get me wrong, was (and am) a huge fan of Mar-Vell, Marvel’s male incarnation, but seems that a character like Billy Batson, who has been around since 1939, is due just a bit more respect. Captain Marvel was once upon a time the biggest selling character in comics, of course, ahead of Superman and Batman back in the day. Then Fawcett, his publisher, went under, and DC bought the rights but never really knew what to do with him. Books came and went from the Seventies onwards, with approaches ranging from humour to straight action, but it’s taken awhile for any ongoing popularity to stick.

Bane's Plan to Destroy Batman Revealed
Jim Dandy Jun 3, 2019

In this exclusive preview, we start to get a sense of Bane's 72-issue master plan to break the Batman.

Since Tom King's run started way back in 2016, we've had a few dialogue-free (or nearly dialogue-free) issues where the art tells one story and the narration tells another, and the two intertwine to move the plot and the characters forward in King's master plan. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that these are some of the best issues of the entire run. They're certainly some of my favorite Batman comics of all time.

From a plot perspective, these dialogue-less issues are always fairly important. In the first of these, Batman #12, Batman fights his way through Santa Prisca to take on Bane, while the narration reveals that young Bruce contemplated suicide just after his parents' deaths. The wedding issue, Batman #50, was largely silent, telling a retrospective...

Batman: Detective Comics Revisits the Dark Knight's Weirdest Cases
John Saavedra Mar 15, 2019

Batman will revisit Grant Morrison's Black Casebook in Detective Comics Annual #2 in June.

Whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you stranger. In June, Detective Comics is reopening the Black Casebook, a collection of Batman's weirdest cases -- the supernatural, the macabre, the psychedelic, and the unsolved. These are cases so baffling that even the World's Greatest Detective couldn't come up with an answer.

First introduced by Grant Morrison in the late 2000s as a framing device for his entire Batman run, the Black Casebook refers to stories published in the '50s and '60s at the height of the Comics Code. In order to keep the Caped Crusader's adventures "age appropriate" during the Silver Age, the character stopped fighting (and killing) gun-wielding thugs and instead faced off against aliens, adventured with a rainbow-colored Batman from another planet, entered an isolation chamber that led to strange visions of Robin's death,...
