Ben Stokes reverses Odi retirement ahead of World Cup, named in England squad for New Zealand series
London, Aug 16 (Ians) England on Wednesday received a huge boost ahead of the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 as their Test captain Ben Stokes reversed his decision to retire from 50-over format and will return to Odi setup in the upcoming four-match series against New Zealand.
England selector Luke Wright confirmed that the 15 players named for New Zealand ODIs are also part of the provisional squad for the World Cup, where their campaign will get underway against New Zealand, in a rematch of the epic 2019 final at Lord’s.
“It wasn’t really a case of changing his mind. He was always interested in coming back. He had to make that priority of getting through the Ashes, have a break and give the body a rest. It wasn’t a case of needing to beg him or anything like that, he was always keen, so it was actually fairly straightforward.

It was followed by Ajinkya Rahane dazzling with an unbeaten 29-ball 71 and Shivam Dube slamming a quick 21-ball fifty to propel Chennai Super Kings to a massive 235/4, also the highest total at this venue in the Ipl.

“American Idol” may be a platform for aspiring unknown singers to showcase their talent outside of their bedrooms, but some contestants may have an advantage over others: being born into famous families.
Season 21 has already shown several so-called “Nepo Babies” — contestants with ties to the entertainment business — competing for the crown, including Kaya Stewart, daughter of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics (pictured).
“With all your different opportunities and connections and stuff, how did you even land on ‘American Idol?’” Judge Katy Perry asked before her audition.
It’s a fair question, but “nepo babies” competing on “American Idol” is nothing new. In the past, the offspring of parents with varying backgrounds from music, acting, sports, and politics have all found their way in front of the judges.

Chattogram, March 6 (Ians) A brilliant all-rounder performance by seasoned Shakib Al Hasan, who claimed his 300th Odi wicket during a haul of 4-35 after hitting 71-ball 75, helped Bangladesh defend a modest 246 for a 50-run win against England here on Monday.
Bangladesh had already lost the series after losing the first two ODIs before salvaging some pride by winning the third match.
The home side may have lost their first Odi series since 2016, but the Asian Tigers must be relieved to have avoided a whitewash in their own den, with Sri Lanka having inflicted the last one in 2014.
Shakib scored 75, hitting seven fours, while wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim contributed 70 and Najmul Hossain Shanto added 53 as Bangladesh were shot out for 246 in 48.5 overs.
Shakib then returned to fox the English batters with his spin bowling, claiming 4-35 as England were bundled out for 196 in 43.1 overs as the hosts won by 50 runs.

The well-fought contest began with Deccan Gladiators winning the toss and electing to bat. They lost their opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore to the third ball of the first over from Akeal Hosein for a duck, caught by Izharulhaq Naveed at short third man. Jason Roy hit the last ball...

Melbourne, Nov 22 (Ians) Openers Travis Head and David Warner struck centuries and shared a record 269-run stand while spinner Adam Zampa claimed 4-31 as Australia consigned England to their heaviest defeat, by 221 runs via D/L method, in the third and final Odi match of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground here on Tuesday.
Travis Head hammered 152 while David Warner slammed 106 off 102 deliveries as Australia posted a mammoth 355/5 in a match reduced to 48 overs due to rain.
England, chasing a revised target of 364 from 48 overs, never got going and lost wickets at regular intervals as Zampa (4-31), Pat Cummins (2-25), and Sean Abbott (2-45) helped the hosts bowl out England for 142 in 31.4 overs to hand their archrivals biggest defeat ever in 50-Over format.

Adelaide, Nov 17 (Ians) Dawid Malan’s fantastic century went in vain as Australia’s top-order batters produced impressive performances to help their team beat England by six wickets in the first Odi and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, here on Thursday.
Malan’s ton (134 off 128) injected life into England’s innings and helped them post 287/9 in 50 overs. In reply, David Warner (86 off 84), Travis Head (69 off 57) and Steve Smith (80 not out off 78) hit enterprising fifties to help the hosts chase down the total in 46.5 overs with six wickets in hand.
In the absence of the now-retired Odi skipper Aaron Finch, Australia’s new opening pair of Warner and Head blasted a century stand from 88 balls to set up their pursuit of 288. Warner brought up a 44-ball fifty whereas Head reached that landmark off 46 balls.

Ferguson, whose first experience with the Ipl was with now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, played 13 matches for Gujarat Titans in their run to the Ipl 2022 trophy and picked 12 wickets at an economy of 8.95, with the best figures being a four-wicket haul against the Delhi Capitals. Perth, Oct 8 (Ians) England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler has said he is 100 per cent fit for three-match T20I series against Australia beginning here on October 9, which will serve as warm-up for the Icc T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence on October 16.
Buttler missed the seven-match T20I series in Pakistan recently as he was recovering from a calf injury with allrounder Moeen Ali leading the side to a 4-3 victory in the fixture.
However, ahead of the matches against Australia, Buttler said he had recovered fully from a calf injury that had been troubling him since mid-August.
“I’m back to 100 per cent,” Buttler was quoted as saying by Sky Sports on Saturday after England flew into Australia following the series in Pakistan.

Perth, Oct 8 (Ians) England batter Phil Salt has said there has not been any firm talk about who between him and Alex Hales will open the batting with skipper Jos Buttler in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia and the Icc T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence on October 16.
The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter wants to simply play competitive cricket and leave the rest to the selectors as the team prepares for the T20I series against Australia beginning on Sunday.
The batter’s comments come in the wake of former England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan saying Salt is the like-for-like replacement to Jason Roy, who was dropped from the side because of a prolonged lean patch.
However, Salt said “no firm” conversation had been had on the issue.

Abu Dhabi, Sep 28 (Ians) With season six of the Abu Dhabi T10 set to happen from November 23 to December 4, defending champions Deccan Gladiators have assembled a power-packed team. The draft ahead of the upcoming season was held on September 26 in Abu Dhabi, and the side picked a 16-player squad comprising an excellent line-up of batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders.
West Indies’ T20I and Odi captain Nicholas Pooran had already joined the squad as the team announced ahead of the draft. Joining him in the squad is England’s star-opener Jason Roy, who is revered for his hard-hitting knocks. But a slump in form saw him miss out on the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia next month.

London, Sep 7 (Ians) Opening batter Alex Hales on Thursday was called up to England’s squad for the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia as a replacement for in-form batter Jonny Bairstow. Hales, 33, has also been added to England’s squad for the seven T20Is tour of Pakistan.
It also means that Hales’s three-year exile from international cricket, after last representing England in March 2019, is over. He had a failed recreational drugs test and was removed from the 2019 Odi World Cup, which England won at home.
The then-captain Eoin Morgan often cited a “complete breakdown in trust” on Hales’ exclusion from the England side.
With Morgan now retired from international cricket and Jos Buttler being the new skipper along with Jason Roy losing form rapidly and Bairstow sustaining a freak left ankle injury after slipping on a golf course last week, it has cleared the path...

Experience is something you should be taking into such a big tournament: Pietersen on Roy's omission
London, Sep 3 (Ians) Former England captain Kevin Pietersen was critical of the decision to omit out-of-form opener Jason Roy from the squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup, saying that the right-hander’s experience was something which the side should have been taking into a huge showpiece event.
On Friday, Roy was left out of England’s Men’s T20 World Cup squad, the three T20Is trip to Australia and from the upcoming seven T20Is tour of Pakistan as well. He has struggled to get going in England’s home summer, scoring just 78 runs in six T20Is, averaging 12.66.
Roy had been an integral part of England’s unit in white-ball cricket since 2015 and played a good role in the side winning the 2019 Odi World Cup at home. His ‘The Hundred’ campaign in 2022 for the Oval Invincibles was horrendous, with three ducks in four innings and his...

Leeds, Sep 2 (Ians) In-form England batter Jonny Bairstow on Friday was ruled out of English summer and Men’s T20 World Cup after suffering a freak lower limb injury while playing golf.
Bairstow, the leading run-scorer in Test cricket this year with 1061 runs in 13 innings at an average of 66.31, including six centuries and a fifty, had been earlier on Friday named in England’s squad for Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November.
Bairstow’s injury comes as a huge blow to England’s chances of sealing the Test series against South Africa when the third Test takes place at The Oval, starting from September 8 and their quest to claim a Men’s T20 World Cup title to be the first men’s team to hold 20-over and 50-over World Cup trophies at the same time.

London, Sep 2 (Ians) The England and Wales Cricket Board (Ecb) have included Phil Salt in their squad for the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia later this year with Jason Roy missing from the 15-member group following an unimpressive run for the national side and in The Hundred.
The prolonged lean run of Roy, which has seen him score just 206 runs at 18.72 in the 11 T20Is he’s played since the previous edition of the Icc T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, is being attributed as the reason for Salt’s inclusion. Salt had made his T20I debut earlier this year.
Salt has been rewarded for his strong domestic form in the ongoing The Hundred tournament, where he is among the top run-getters. He is at No.2 with 313 runs in eight games, averaging 44.71.

Dubai, Sep 19 (Ians/GloFans) The second game of the 13th Indian Premier League (Ipl) will be played between two of the most inconsistent performers of the tournament till date -- Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kings XI Punjab (Kxip). Both are yet to win a title in 12 attempts.
After a lacklustre outing in the first 11 seasons of the lucrative league, the Delhi franchise renamed their team, from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals, in December 2018 and that turned out to be lucky for them.
Last season, Delhi's seven-year wait to enter the play-offs ended when Shreyas Iyer led from the front and took his team into the qualifiers. They eventually went down to the Csk and crashed out.
After an impressive outing last year, DC retained most of their core players, namely Shreyas, stumper Rishabh Pant, and pacer Kagiso Rabada. The franchise, however, released some under-performers like Colin Munro, Colin Ingram, and Chris Morris.

Last season, Delhi's seven-year wait to enter the play-offs ended when Shreyas Iyer led from the front and took his team into the qualifiers. They eventually went down to the Csk and crashed out.

Kaycee is the odds-on favorite to win “Big Brother 20,” and if our little peanut does pull it off, she’d only be the second woman to beat a man in the final. Can we get a “Let’s go!”?
The first instance occurred just two years ago, when Nicole Franzel beat Paul Abrahamian 5-4 on “Big Brother 18.” All the other male-female final twos resulted in the guy winning the $500,000:
Season 2: Dr. Will Kirby beat Nicole Nilson Schaffrich
Season 7: Mike “Boogie” Malin beat Erika Landin
Season 8: Evil Dick beat Daniele Donato
Season 15: Andy Herren beat Gina-Marie Zimmerman
Season 17: Steve Moses beat Liz Nolan

It's incredibly rare for the Big Brother houseguests to receive news from the outside world.
But because Big Brother: Over the Top is airing in the fall on CBS All Access -- breaking from the show's usual summer broadcast -- the contestants were informed on Thursday of Donald Trump's presidential victory earlier in the week, and needless to say, they were shocked.

"She's joking," says Shelby Stockton, in response to host Julie Chen breaking the election news.
"Gay people where were you? Minorities where were you?" asks Jason Roy. "Can we just stay in here for the next four years?"

Two weeks into Big Brother: Over the Top, the online-only show is not exactly setting the world on fire. For those who seek the show out, there's surprisingly interesting and dynamic gameplay in Big Brother: Over the Top. Yet the fervor over the streaming season pales into comparison to the summer version.
The biggest star of Big Brother: Over the Top (so far) is returning player Jason Roy. Jason is the only returnee for Over the Top, which makes him somewhat unique. Big Brother brings back old players all the time but rarely do they just have a solo returning player like Jason. Jason and his popularity makes us wonder if the season would have been better and more popular with more returning fan favorites. ...

There hasn't been much change in the Big Brother: Over the Top house since Saturday. HoH Monte, who has taken to wearing a raccoon skin cap because he wasn't checking off enough southern stereotypes, remains resolute in his plan to evict Jason. It is all but certain that Jason Roy will be on the block and may be sent home in his first-ever week of Big Brother: Over the Top. The point of contention is who Monte will put against Jason.
Most of the main action happened immediately following Monte's first safety ceremony. Cornbread tried pretty valiantly to convince Monte that Shelby needed to be nominated because she made fun of Cornbread and (jokingly) accused him of not flushing the toilet in the main bathroom. Monte remained pretty confident in his choice, at the time, to nominate Kryssie against Jason.

Jozea Flores might think himself the Big Brother messiah but Big Brother: Over the Top fans do not agree. Big Brother 17 player Jason Roy managed to receive more votes than Big Brother 18's Jozea to enter the Big Brother: Over the Top house. While most of the Over the Top housequests were unaware that Jason had played the game before he entered the house, that didn't stop the superfan from scheming right away. TV Guide caught up with Jason before he entered Over the Top to talk about what he would do differently playing the game this time. ...

Big Brother season 18 is a little less than a month away. Yes, the clock is ticking for host Julie Chen to, once again, utter her favorite word. You know what it is. Will past houseguests return or will there be a whole new cast brought into the fold for the fourth season straight? Many doubt it's the latter, but there are four Big Brother veterans who may actually have all the answers. The first, last season's fan favorite and self-proclaimed "Big Brother historian," Jason Roy. Next is season 16 winner Derrick Levasseur, an undercover cop from Rhode Island

Update: Julie Chen said the America's Favorite Houseguest vote came down to James Huling, John McGuire, and Jason Roy. The winner and $25,000 recipient was James! Congrats to James (and Steve, of course). What do you think about James winning Afp? Anyone else disappointed that a season with such strong female players (for once) didn't have any women up for favorite?

"Big Brother 17" is ending tonight, Wednesday, September 23. Oh My Lanta, we're going to miss that crazy house for another year! The $500,000 grand prize will go to Vanessa Rousso, Steve Moses, or Liz Nolan -- with the runner-up taking home a not-too-shabby $50,000 -- but who will win the $25,000 as America's Favorite Houseguest?
Fans vote for that honor on CBS' site and, at this point, it looks like it's going to come down to military vet/dad/prankster James Huling,...
