‘For All Mankind’ Renewed For Season 5; Apple Expands Universe With Spinoff Series ‘Star City’
Image
Apple TV+ isn’t done exploring the depths of space.

The streamer has renewed its drama series For All Mankind for Season 5. Additionally, Apple TV+ has given the green light to a spinoff series titled Star City, also from creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi.

Apple is billing Star City is “a propulsive paranoid thriller” which will explore a key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, it will explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.

“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with every season of For All Mankind,” Wolpert and Nedivi said in a statement.

For All Mankind Season 5 Gets Encouraging Update After Unusual Setback
Image
For All Mankind creator Ronald Moore hints at a potential season 5, with meaningful discussions taking place and industry-wide preparations underway. Show co-creators have previously expressed plans for at least six or seven seasons, indicating that season 5 is likely and won't be the final season. While no Apple TV+ show has gone beyond four seasons yet, For All Mankind's critical acclaim and success make a season 5 renewal possible, especially considering the streamer's short operating history.

For All Mankind creator Ronald Moore gives an encouraging update about season 5. The Apple TV+ show dramatizes a world where the global space race between the United States and the Soviet Union never ended and its effects on the astronauts and their families in the aftermath of said race. The series, which launched in 2019, has already run for three successful seasons, while season 4 is currently streaming its weekly episodes on Apple TV+. ‘For All Mankind’ Season 4 Trailer Promises a Gold Rush in Space (Video)
Ronald D. Moore
“For All Mankind” Season 4 is nearly here. And a trailer that just played on the first day of New York Comic Con (where they’re also screening the first episode of the new season) gives us our first taste of what’s to come. Watch it above.

If you’ve never seen “For All Mankind” — created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi — it’s an alternate history tale of the space race. The first season was set during the race to the moon, with America training a group of female astronauts and Russia getting there first.

Each subsequent season has moved further away from actual history while still incorporating details from real life. And, crucially, each season is set a decade after the previous season, meaning that old-age makeup technology is constantly being put to the test. (Sometimes it works better than others.)

As the trailer reveals,...

If you haven't been following along already, allow me to point you in the direction of "For All Mankind." I should clarify, this isn't the show to watch if you're looking for an escape from all the cynicism we've been seeing in our news headlines for the better part of the 21st Century. Rather, the Apple TV+ series shines a direct light on all our missteps through an alternate-history lens -- one in which the Russians won the space race by landing a man on the moon back in the 1960s, kicking off an even more intense game of one-upmanship between the world's superpowers locked in an eternal Cold War.

For All Mankind Season 4 Will See Less Of One Original Character Despite Big Season 3 Story
Image
Warning: Spoilers for For All Mankind Season 3 finale - "Stranger In A Strange Land"

Where to Watch Powered by Jodi Balfour, who plays Ellen Waverly in For All Mankind, will not be a series regular in season 4 but will appear in some capacity. Balfour's exit is significant as her character's story was left unresolved in the season 3 finale after she comes out as a lesbian and faces pressure to resign. Other cast members have also made their exit, and season 4 will introduce new characters played by Daniel Stern, Svetlana Efremova, Tyner Rushing, and Toby Kebbell.

For All Mankind will see less of an original cast member, as one character is set to appear in a guest-starring capacity for the upcoming season. For All Mankind Shocker: Jodi Balfour Out as Series Regular
Jodi Balfour
When For All Mankind Season 4 gets underway on Apple TV+, viewers will see less of one of its most popular stars.

TV Line reports that Jodi Balfour is bowing out of the alt-history drama as a series regular.

Balfour, who plays Ellen, is expected to appear in some capacity.

The series has said goodbye to some fantastic people over the years, and something tells us we'll be saying goodbye to more as the years in the narrative go on.

Ellen has been a key player since For All Mankind Season 1, and her presence has been felt throughout three glorious seasons.

Knowing that we'll be seeing less of her doesn't give us much excitement for For All Mankind Season 4.

As you'll recall, the criminally underrated series ended its third season by writing out Shantel VanSanten's Karen Baldwin and Sonya Walger's Molly Cobb.

The series has had a wonderful tapestry...

‘For All Mankind’: Maria Mashkova & Dimiter Marinov Join Apple Series As Recurring
Image
Exclusive: Maria Mashkova (McMafia) and Dimiter Marinov (Green Book) have joined the upcoming fourth season of Apple TV+’s space drama series For All Mankind in key recurring roles.

Created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, For All Mankind explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The series presents an aspirational world where NASA astronauts, engineers and their families find themselves in the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate history timeline — a world in which the Ussr beats the US to the moon.

The third season shifted the action to the early ’90s with a race to a new planetary frontier: Mars. The Red Planet became the new front in the Space Race not only for the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also an unexpected new entrant with a lot to prove and even more at stake.

Echoes Trailer: Michelle Monaghan Plays Twins in Netflix Thriller
Michelle Monaghan at an event for Bad Monkey (2024)
The media's obsession with mysteries involving twins is showing no signs of slowing down, and Netflix's latest effort looks like a surefire hit.

Michelle Monaghan is pulling double duty on this one from co-showrunners Brian Yorkey (13 Reasons Why) and Quinton Peeples (Runaways).

Given the previous shows the creatives worked on, we're inclined to believe this will have twists and turns coming from all directions, and that's what we like best.

"Echoes is a mystery thriller about two identical twins, Leni and Gina, who share a dangerous secret," the spoilery synopsis reads.

"Since they were children, Leni and Gina have secretly swapped lives, culminating in a double life as adults: they share two homes, two husbands, and a child but everything in their perfectly choreographed world is thrown into disarray when one of the sisters goes missing."

It certainly sounds similar to The CW's Ringer.
