Jenna Fischer put her acting skills to the test on the set of 2024’s Mean Girls. The actress revealed this week she filmed the movie with a broken shoulder.
“I shot for one day on Mean Girls, and then I didn’t have to shoot for a month,” Fischer told People. “And in that month I went on a ski trip and I fell on a sidewalk and I broke my shoulder. So I had to shoot the rest of the movie with a very newly broken shoulder.”
Fischer played Ms. Heron, the daughter of protagonist Cady (Angourie Rice) in the musical movie. After she returned with her arm in a sling, the actress said the crew got creative in accommodating the injury.
“If you notice in the movie, I am exclusively gesturing with my left arm,” she said. “It was the wildest experience. So a big part of my...

Harvard’s South Asian Person of The Year, Avantika Vandanapu, has been in the news lately and, surprisingly, not on a positive note. The Mean Girls star has been facing major backlash after rumor mills churned out news of her screen testing for the role of Rapunzel opposite Milo Manheim in the Disney live-action remake of the movie Tangled. We witnessed a similar uproar in 2023 over the casting of Halle Bailey in The Little Mermaid live-action remake and, more recently, Rachel Ziegler’s casting in the Snow White live-action. Vandanapu is being subject to racist trolling in her Instagram comments section,

Having attended a missionary, all-girls school myself, Nitya Mehra’s new Amazon Prime series Big Girls Don’t Cry (Bgdc) has struck a deeply personal chord with me. It offers a glimpse into the lives of girls who have to obey the strict rules and regulations of their school, where even the smallest infractions are “Not Tolerated!” From sneaking chocolates and chewing gum to daring to wear lipstick or nail polish, the girls of Vandana Valley Girls’ School mirror my own teenage experiences. Like them, I remember the curiosity that bubbled within us—about boys, about breaking the rules and trying to find out who we really are while dealing with all the strict rules around us. Each girl in the series, much like each of us during our school days, is engaged in her own personal battle. Yet, there is a common thread: the quest for self-discovery, as “Atmanam Vidhi” or “Know Thyself.

A joke from Mean Girls which Lindsay Lohan pushed back against seems to be missing from at-home versions of the film released last week.
The movie musical version of the film, which began as Tina Fey’s beloved 2004 movie starring Lohan and then went to Broadway before making its way back to the screen this year, became available on digital platforms last week after its theatrical debut in January.
The film, which opened 2024 with a bang at the box office, featured a cameo from Megan Thee Stallion telling Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) that “Y2K fire crotch is back.”
In 2006, a TMZ video made headlines for oil empire heir Brandon Davis’ insulting comments about Lohan, which included him referring to the actress as a “fire crotch.”
The controversial joke is now missing from some versions of the film’s digital release, including an edition rented from Amazon by The Hollywood Reporter.

If you ask anyone over the age of 25, they'll probably tell you that there's no dollar amount in the world that could ever make them want to go back to high school, and for good reason — high school can be hell. Teen films have been a popular and profitable subgenre for decades, but few films have become a cultural phenomenon quite like "Mean Girls." The film centers on teenager Cady Heron who is starting public school for the first time as a high school junior, having been spared from the cruel cliques or popularity warfare on campus. After a few less-than-stellar days, she catches the eye of Queen Bee Regina George, the leader of a popular clique known as The Plastics who rule North Shore High School with perfectly manicured nails and hair insured for $10,000 (or full of secrets).

Sony Pictures has released a brand new trailer for an upcoming horror flick titled "Tarot." This one was originally going under the title "Horrorscope," but the powers that be decided to be a little more straightforward about what's happening here. Yes, it's about deadly tarot cards and, based on the trailer, it looks very much like what one might expect from a horror movie about deadly tarot cards. Check it out for yourself above.
The footage doesn't give away too much by way of story specifics. It focuses more on the gimmick, which is that this possessed tarot card deck unleashes various deadly beings on its unsuspecting victims. It focuses more on the gimmick, which is that this possessed tarot card deck unleashes various deadly beings on its unsuspecting victims. "Who's next?" Sony Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a horror movie arriving this summer titled Tarot, about tarot cards, obviously. After those Ouija board movies, it was inevitable that one day someone would make a Tarot horror and here we are. This project was also titled Horrorscope since it's adapted from a book called "Horrorscope", but it has been switched back to just Tarot for the release in May. The plot centers on a group of college friends who start dying in ways that are connected to their fortunes after having their horoscopes read. Before their time runs out, they have to work together to uncover the mystery. "Your fate is in the cards" - of course. Tarot stars Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika, and Jacob Batalon, along with Humberly González, Alana Boden, Larsen Thompson. Well unfortunately looks as cheesy as could be, with plenty of obvious horrific moments and jump scares.

Sony Pictures UK just dropped the first look at their new horror flick, ‘Tarot’, and it’s as eerie as it gets. The movie, brought to life by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, dives into a chilling tale where a bunch of teens face deadly consequences after toying with Tarot card readings. The trailer gives us a sneak peek into the horror that awaits, painting a grim picture of their fate.
In ‘Tarot’, we meet a group of friends who ignore a crucial Tarot reading rule: never use a deck that’s not yours. They soon find themselves entangled in a nightmare, as an evil force from the cursed cards starts haunting them. The trailer hints at a desperate struggle to dodge the grim futures laid out in their readings.
The movie stars Jacob Batalon, Harriet Slater, Avantika, and Adain Bradley. While they might not be household names, their previous work speaks volumes.

Tarot cards, much like the Ouija board, have always been used in horror films as some sort of sinister force. But when you see a tarot reading in person, you start to realize that it’s nothing more than a spiritual session between a couple of people, with very little horror. But yet, Hollywood really wants us to believe that new age spirituality has demonic undertones, as seen in the new horror film, “Tarot.”

Sinister cards, death, teenagers. That’s all you need to know about the new horror film Tarot before watching the trailer here.
A group of teens begin dying mysteriously after taking part in a sinister game. Sound familiar? This could easily describe mutliple films such as Ouija, Truth Or Dare or Stay Alive.
In this case, though, we’re talking about Tarot, which is aiming to be 2024’s big horror sensation.
Take a look at the Tarot trailer.
If the name Tarot doesn’t ring a bell, not to worry. The film was going by the name Horrorscope until recently.
Here’s the official synopsis: “When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck – they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a...

When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck – they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards in the upcoming Screen Gems horror movie Tarot. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.
This one looks like a fairly generic teen horror movie, but the concept could at least allow for a fun array of supernatural entities – several of which are glimpsed in this first trailer.
Update: Artist Trevor Henderson has revealed that he designed the monsters for this movie! Henderson tweets, “I was asked to be the sole designer of the eight different monsters in this movie!!” He also notes, “All of my favourites of the designs are only hinted at.”

Within hours of Mean Girls’ (2024) box office-topping release, bootleg video of Avantika’s song-and-dance number, “Sexy,” circulated social media to the praise of people far and wide.
Avantika plays a new take on Amanda Seyfried’s Karen in Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr.’s film adaptation of Tina Fey’s Mean Girls Broadway musical, which was based on Fey and Mark Waters’ 2004 comedy classic. (The original Mean Girls was also based on Rosalind Wiseman’s book Queen Bees and Wannabes.) Like the Karen before her, Avantika’s version of the character is also endearingly slow on the uptake, often garnering the film’s best jokes and biggest laughs, but Fey, who returned as screenwriter, opted to not just play all the hits again, such as Karen’s “weather report.”
Avantika didn’t get the chance to meet Seyfried before or during production, but a couple of days after the...

Lindsay Lohan did not appreciate a line in the new Mean Girls film that appears to reference a crude comment about the actress that made headlines nearly two decades ago.
A scene in the Paramount movie, which topped the domestic box office over the weekend, includes Megan Thee Stallion portraying herself as she offers support for Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) by saying, “Y2K fire crotch is back.” Back in 2006, a TMZ video made headlines over oil empire heir Brandon Davis’ insulting comments about Lohan, which included him referring to the actress as a “fire crotch.”
“Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film,” Lohan’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, said in a statement shared with People and other media outlets.
After originating the role of Cady in Mark Waters’ Paramount movie Mean Girls that hit theaters in 2004, Lohan — spoiler alert — makes a cameo in the new...

Lindsay Lohan was fetch long before fetch was a thing. So, it should come as no surprise that Paramount paid the actor handsomely to cameo in the new “Mean Girls.”
Sources say Lohan, who became one of young Hollywood’s biggest stars after starring in the 2004 film of the same name, pulled down about $500,000 for a half a day of work in the latest incarnation, a musical that stars a new clique of Plastics led by Angourie Rice and Reneé Rapp. Paramount declined comment. A rep for Lohan declined a request for comment.
Lohan’s surprise entrance in the new film, written by Tina Fey, drew thunderous applause at the New York premiere on Jan. 8. In her scene, Lohan returns to the math competition that served as the denouement of the original, and offers a full-circle moment for the “Mean Girls” franchise, which also spawned a Broadway musical. Originally gracing our screens in 2004, the seminal Mean Girls movie emerged as a cultural touchstone, capturing the essence of the early 2000s through its endlessly quotable lines and resonant exploration of millennial teenage angst. Penned by the comedic genius Tina Fey (Saturday Night Live) and featuring the talents of a youthful Lindsay Lohan (The Parent Trap), the film artfully depicted high school as a tumultuous battleground defined by archetypal cliques.
Fast forward to 2018, and Tina Fey’s original screenplay underwent a theatrical transformation, landing on Broadway as the dazzling Mean Girls: The Musical. However, this triumphant debut was abruptly halted by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, bringing the curtains down on its promising run.
Now, the narrative takes an intriguing turn with the latest iteration of Fey’s beloved tale. This fresh adaptation not only draws inspiration from the original screenplay but also enlists several stars from...

Paramount’s “Mean Girls” musical earned a grool $33.2 million from 3,791 theaters over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, beating expectations.
Based on the Broadway adaptation of the 2004 comedy classic, “Mean Girls” was originally commissioned with plans to skip theaters and make a streaming debut directly on Paramount+, but executives opted for a theatrical release after test screenings. The musical film cost just $36 million.
The new “Mean Girls” stars Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, a role originated by Lindsay Lohan, who must navigate the social scene of her new high school ruled by the Plastics. Reneé Rapp reprises her Broadway role as queen bee Regina George, with a cast that also includes Bebe Wood, Avantika, Jaquel Spivey, Auli’i Cravalho and original stars Tim Meadows and producer-writer Tina Fey.
Paramount intentionally downplayed the song-and-dance numbers in promotional materials for the movie musical, which earned a “B” grade through research firm Cinema Score.

MLK Jr. weekend offered something for everyone at the movies, but two new movies exceeded expectations as they took the top two spots despite weather issues across the country. Read on for the weekend box office report.
The past month has mostly been dominated by musicals, so why not one more, as Paramount released “Mean Girls,” based on the popular Broadway musical, which itself was based on Tina Fey‘s popular 2004 comedy film. With a young cast that included Angourie Rice from the “Spider-Man” movies, Reneé Rapp (“Secret Lives of College Girls”), Auli’i Cravalho (“Moana”), Jaquel Spivey, Avantika, Bebe Wood, Christopher Briney and Jenna Fischer, the movie received a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is not too bad for a January release.

Paramount’s “Mean Girls” musical is winning most popular at the domestic box office this weekend. The adaptation of the Broadway adaptation of the beloved 2004 comedy is off to a strong start, coming in ahead of the latest Jason Statham actioner “The Beekeeper.”
“Mean Girls” earned $11.65 million from 3,791 theaters across Friday and preview screenings, tracking to a four-day opening of $31.5 million through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Get in, loser. We’re going to make some money at the box office. Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and the Plastics of Paramount‘s Mean Girls wore green on Thursday when the cult classic comedy musical adaptation banked $3.25M in previews. The latest iteration of Mean Girls began burning books on the silver screen (again) at 4 pm on Thursday, giving the film written by Tina Fey a solid start to the weekend. Before Mean Girls was destined for the big screen, it was planned as a Paramount+ exclusive. However, test screenings made it clear the musical could put asses in seats, thus the pivot to cinemas.

Get in, loser, we’re going to the box office.
Paramount’s “Mean Girls,” a musical adaptation and more Gen Z-skewing version of the iconic teen comedy, is coming to the big screen this weekend. It has made $3.25 million at the box office in Thursday previews.
The 2024 film is based on the popular 2018 Broadway musical, which is based on the 2004 comedy, which is based on the 2002 book “Queen Bees and Wannabees.” The new version stars Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, the homeschooled fish out of water originally played by Lindsay Lohan. She joins a new school and befriends The Plastics, the “cool girl” squad played in this reimagining by Renee Rapp, Bebe Wood and Avantika — who take over from Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfriend.

Review: For those that weren’t there, it’s hard to describe just how massive Mean Girls was in the mid-2000s. It essentially changed the way high schoolers were represented in movies. I’m not usually a fan of these types of films yet Mean Girls has always stood out as a witty and clever comedy that is honestly pretty funny. But my enjoyment of the film didn’t go past that. The musical stage play or book that followed also received acclaim, though I’m not familiar with either. I simply went into this expecting a Mean Girls musical and that’s exactly what I got.

Get ready for another “full circle film”, an IP (intellectual property) that began in one medium, was adapted to another, and then returns to that original medium. One of the more recent Broadway trends, along with the “jukebox musical”, has been taking an often beloved feature film and adapting it into a big splashy stage musical. And when they’re big hits, then bring the musical take to the big screen. Back in 2005, The Producers did the big “whip-around” when the musical based on the 1967 Oscar-winning classic played (briefly) at the multiplex. A couple of years later saw the tune-filled return of Hairspray. Just a few weeks ago (it’s still playing in many markets) The Color Purple did much the same,...

We don’t really need a reboot of Mean Girls, or indeed a film adaptation of the stage musical. But there you go, we are where we are. And that’s 2024, 20 years after the release of the seminal high school movie starring Lindsay Lohan which was based on the non-fiction book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. Fashions have changed, social media is now ubiquitous, but teenage girls are still cliquey and judgey so the story hasn’t required a massive update. Twenty years later . . . well, things are different. We've seen not just a technological revolution, but a cultural one. More Americans have become more aware of how rampant racism and discrimination - from microaggressions to hate crimes - are in this country. And while we...
