At A Down-home Eatery near his waterfront home on Florida’s west coast in 2017, Dickey Betts, stout and white-haired but still evoking his youthful intensity, was asked about his imposing reputation. “People are a little bit standoffish because they think if they say something wrong, I’ll be aggressive or something with them,” he told Rolling Stone, adding with his drawl, “But I’m not like that at all. Unless you start saying shit that’s really demeaning, and then I won’t hesitate to …” Betts didn’t finish the sentence,...

Starting with “Rebel-‘Rouser” in 1958, Duane Eddy’s instrumental hits from the early rock & roll era made the guitar the star of the show. On that song and those to follow, like “Peter Gunn,” “Cannonball,” and “Forty Miles of Bad Road,” Eddy used vibrato and lent his guitar a deep sound by emphasizing bass strings. In doing so, he influenced an entire incoming generation of guitar players — including Bruce Springsteen, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, and John Fogerty. After the news of Eddy’s death was announced on Wednesday — he died...

Eddy is considered the most commercially successful instrumental musician in the history of rock ‘n’ roll, thanks in large part to his signature tunes like “Rebel-‘Rouser,” “Peter Gunn,” and “Because They’re Young.” By 1963, he had sold an estimated 12 million records.
The guitarist was known for his twangy sound and his collaborative work with producer Lee Hazlewood. His extensive album discography spanned from his 1958 debut, Have ‘Twangy’ Guitar Will Travel, through 2011’s Road Trip.

Duane Eddy, one of rock’s first guitar heroes and an idol of George Harrison, Jeff Beck, John Fogerty, Dan Auerbach, and many other guitar-slingers who followed, died Sunday at his home in Franklin, Tennessee. He was 86. A source close to the family confirmed Eddy’s death to Rolling Stone.

Back in 1967, The Beatles told us, “All You Need Is Love.” Back in 2004, writer Hiroshi Sakurazaka brought the world a novel called All You Need Is Kill, which served as the basis for the 2014 Tom Cruise sci-fi adventure Edge of Tomorrow… and I could understand why the title was changed for the movie, as All You Need Is Kill never sounded quite right to me. A better version would be All You Need Is Death – and that’s the title the makers of an upcoming folk horror movie have decided to use for their film, which is set to receive a VOD and limited theatrical release on April 11th. With that release date just a couple weeks away, a trailer for All You Need Is Death has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.

The luck of the Irish is veering into unhinged territory thanks to Irish folklore-based horror film, “All You Need Is Death.”
The indie feature filmmaking debut from Dublin-based director Paul Duane, the film centers on a young couple (Simone Collins and Charlie Maher) who are part of a mysterious, secret organization. The duo believe that modern alchemy is contained in old, forgotten songs. When they find an elderly, mysterious woman (Olwen Fouéré) who sings songs that have never been heard before, recording it opens the door to an ancient evil and madness.
The film had its World Premiere at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, followed by an Irish Premiere at Cork International Film Festival.
Director Duane told Film in Dublin that he was inspired by “spooky” childhood fairytales and the “weirdness of Irish ballads” to pen the original horror movie.

As every new month brings an insane tidal wave of new additions to streaming libraries, it can be tough selecting the perfect watch. Even more so when it comes to Tubi, a streaming platform with a vast, overwhelming selection of titles that include everything from mainstream releases to obscure deep cuts once trapped on VHS.
Because the streaming service excels so well at this with a layout that isn’t always the easiest to navigate when hunting down rare titles or finding the best horror movies on Tubi, we’re here to help.
For February, we’re narrowing it down to twenty horror movies you should watch, from recent gems to required viewing from horror masters. More specifically, this list avoids too many of the obvious classics, like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (also streaming on Tubi), to instead offer a wider variety slightly off the beaten path.

The first thing I wanted to do after watching The Last Repair Shop was give a hug to Dana Atkinsons, Duane Michaels, Paty Moreno, and Steve Bagmanyan. It would not be an exaggeration if I compared the documentary itself to a warm hug, or even a warm cup of coffee on a winter morning, and so on. Deservingly getting nominated in the “Best Documentary Short” category at the upcoming Oscars, The Last Repair Shop hits all the right notes when it comes to wholesomeness. The forty minutes of it pass like a breeze, and in the end, you crave more.
Spoilers Ahead

Prior to Tuesday’s hearing, Prosecutors had argued in a court filing on Dec. 28 that Davis’ release pre-trial could endanger witnesses, as a recorded prison call between Davis and his son suggested there was a “green...

Adapted from Larry McMurtry’s bittersweet 1966 novel of the same name by McMurtry and director Peter Bogdanovich, The Last Picture Show delineates the quiet, desperate lives of the citizens of Anarene, Texas, from November 1951 to October 1952. The film is a pure Janus-headed product of the New Hollywood. Bogdanovich pours the new wine of sexual frankness available to filmmakers after the inauguration of the MPAA ratings system into old bottles borrowed from the cellars of classic Hollywood cinema, namely those older films’ expressive visual grammar and obliquely suggestive dialogue.
As an erstwhile film critic and historian, Bogdanovich drew formal and technical inspiration from his years spent programming films from Hollywood’s Golden Age at MoMA. He also solicited advice from houseguest Orson Welles when it came to shooting the film in black and white, and employing long, unbroken takes rather than break up important scenes. As Welles reportedly put it:...

What to do with a broken violin peg, or a leaky euphonium? For students in the Los Angeles Unified School District, such a predicament doesn’t mean catastrophe. They have at their disposal a repair shop where a quartet of dedicated individuals attend to damaged instruments, restoring them to exemplary condition.
This repair shop is the focus of a new documentary directed by Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers (Oscar-nominated for A Concerto Is a Conversation), The Last Repair Shop, which made its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on Saturday. The finality of the title alludes to a salient fact about this shop tucked away in an unprepossessing corner of Los Angeles: “It is… the last American city to provide freely repaired instruments to its public school students.”

It was Friday afternoon, and Molly Duane had just left for a vacation when she got the news. Women with life-threatening pregnancy complications would be able to get abortions in Texas, a judge had ruled. Doctors who provided that care would be shielded from prosecution by the state. And Texas’ Senate Bill 8 — the abortion bounty law, which allows private citizens to sue anyone they suspect of aiding or abetting an abortion — had been declared unconstitutional.

The episode of Deconstructing… covering Malignant was Written, Edited, and Narrated by Kier Gomes, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Malignant (watch it Here) is your worst nightmare. Whenever the mood strikes and I’m looking for a spooky, atmospheric midnight movie to deliver on the thrills and chills, I’ll turn to Malignant to satisfy the craving. It’s a movie that showcases every one of James Wan’s directorial sensibilities and combines what we love about of each of his films. It’s got the sleepy and somber look of Insidious, the cold and foggy lighting of Dead Silence and the utter brutality of Saw– while also giving us the incredible cinematography and unsettling horror of The Conjuring. There’s a specific feeling that Malignant evokes which makes you as intrigued as you are afraid. A specific “sleep walking through your...

Lennie James has been a part of The Walking Dead universe since The Walking Dead Season 1 Episode 1 in the role of Morgan Jones.
However, his journey with the franchise concluded on Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 6, an hour that sent one of the franchise's best characters in an exciting new direction.
Speaking with TV Fanatic exclusively, Lennie revealed that his final episode was taxing on him physically because the show put Morgan through everything he's ever been through all over again.
If you watch Fear the Walking Dead online, you know we witnessed Morgan as he had lapses in memory, a callback to his journey on The Walking Dead.
"There was one point where I was hanging off of a crane above a hole that had been dug in the ground that was filled with fake mud up to my neck," James said with a laugh.

One of the quintessential drive in kinda guys to me is Frank Henenlotter. Not only because of the anointing from the patron saint of Drive-ins himself, Joe Bob Briggs, but also just from a horror core memory. Long before I knew about the fabled 42nd Street in New York and all the magical movies that were shown there, I was introduced to Belial and his brother Duane on grainy VHS from Video Unlimited. That’s the magical part about being a horror fan. My brothers weren’t even particularly fond of the first movie, but knew it was an important piece of independent horror cinema. Shot for 35,000 and released in April of 1982, Basket Case is now enshrined in Moma,...

This article contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season 8 episode 6.
The eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead has been pulling out all the stops to drive home the show’s unique place in the franchise – and everything we’ll miss when it’s gone. Since day one, the series has been about families trying to stay together against all odds, and that heart wrenching theme has progressed into a fast-paced, chaotic, and – don’t forget – terrifying mid-season finale with twists and cliffhangers galore.
“All I See is Red” find one of the primary protagonists, The Walking Dead alum Morgan Jones (Lennie James), reeling from the loss of his beloved, Grace (Karen David), as he tries to reunite with his daughter Mo (Zoey Merchant). This all occurs with the two locked in the center of an absolute whirlwind of horror as regret and grief threaten to overwhelm them.

With any series in The Walking Dead universe, we've been taught to expect death at every turn.
But saying goodbye to the best characters doesn't get any easier.
Going into Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 5, Grace would inevitably succumb to the zombie infection spreading through her body, but Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 has explored the possibility of using radiation to slow down the inevitable.
There was always that glimmer of hope Grace would somehow pull through because she's beaten the odds at every turn, and look at Finch. He's been thriving since Shrike got him bitten.
Grace's final journey was filled with emotion because, regardless of how we feel about the show's quality, she's been one of the best-written characters since her introduction on Fear the Walking Dead Season 5.
Karen David brought Grace to life to perfection, and it's a real shame we won't have Grace or Karen...

Sunday’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead felt like old times — really old times. It gave Morgan visions of late wife Jenny as he sought to put down their son Duane after all these years. (Better very late than never?) Needless to say, what with a whole hour needing to be filled, things did not go smoothly.
Early on in “King County,” Morgan discovered that he couldn’t enter his old house and lay Duane to rest; too painful. Further complicating matters was the arrival on the scene of Grace and Mo, the latter of whom turned out to...

Closure is tricky, and Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 4 was one of the spinoff's finest hours because it was a natural progression for Morgan.
He's been dealing with loss ever since The Walking Dead Season 1 Episode 1, and this latest chapter found him returning to the home his son died in and his deceased wife returned to every night to try to open the doors.
I've had many complaints about how Morgan's arc has been handled on both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead; we got nostalgia and some of Lennie James' best work to date as he tried to find a way to put the Walker of his son Duane down.
The series has mishandled many characters and storylines, but there was a level of authenticity here with Morgan's arc.
Being closely tied to the original series, Morgan will always have a special place in fans' hearts,...

If East New York had to wrap things up, this was how to do it.
East New York Season 1 Episode 21, they ended the official police business a few minutes early so that it could end with the 7-4 celebrating being together and the work they each do to make a difference in their community.
It underscored how important this series was and how huge a hole it'll leave in our hearts.
Throughout the hour, I was scared that Donaldson might get his way now that the series was ending. Thankfully, East New York ended on a happier note than that!
But could that man have been any more of an asshole? He claimed that Reigna was a "divisive" figure, but the only one doing any dividing was him.

How do you have hope in a hopeless world?
Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 1 finally gave us the insight we need into what goes on behind the scenes at Padre, and while it's hard to say it was unpredictable, it was a jolt in the right direction for the first Walking Dead spinoff.
There was much confusion about how late the end date announcement came in the game, but Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 feels like we're reaching the end of a chapter.
It would be a shame not to get closure, but "Remember What They Took From You" gives the sense that we'll witness the conclusion of the Padre storyline, leaving our favorite characters at very different stages in life.
Madison was front and center during the premiere, but that's not to say the show forgot about Morgan. If the premiere is any indication, Kim Dickens and Lennie James...
