The new genre studio Welcome Villain Films have announced that they’ve acquired the distribution rights to the Chilean found footage horror film Invoking Yell, which has been getting a lot of positive attention while making the festival rounds.
Directed by Patricio Valladares, who also wrote the screenplay with Barry Keating, Invoking Yell is set in Chile in 1997. The film is said to be a love letter to black metal that follows a trio of metalhead twenty-something girls who venture into the woods to shoot the demo tape for their black metal band, Invoking Yell. However, things take a sinister turn as they document their disturbing and unorthodox process of recording paranormal phenomena to be used in the album’s final track.
María Jesús Marcone, Macarena Carrere, and Andrea Ozuljevich play those three metalheads.

‘Invoking Yell’ – Welcome Villain Films Acquires Worldwide Rights to Black Metal Found Footage Movie
Patricio Valladares, director of Hidden in the Woods and Nightworld, is back with Invoking Yell, which has just been acquired by Welcome Villain Films (Malum).
The news was first reported by Screen Daily this afternoon. No word yet on when Welcome Villain will be releasing the film here in the States, but we’ll keep you posted.
Valladares tells the site, “This film was always meant to be an ode to the found footage films of the 90’s, but with a black metal twist. I’m a big fan of The Blair Witch Project and many other found footage films from that era, and I am also a metalhead, so the subject matter came easy to me. It is incredibly exciting to be teaming up with the amazing group at Welcome Villain to release this special film to the world. We couldn’t be happier with this partnership.”

How far would you be willing to go to become famous? This is the question a group of three twentysomething women ask themselves when they decide to form a black metal band in Chile in the late 1990s. The band calls themselves Invoking Yell and plans a trip to a remote location in the wilderness to work on their demo tape, hoping to capture electronic voice phenomenon (EVPs) to give their music a unique sound. While alone in the middle of nowhere, what starts out as playful competition among the women becomes something much darker and more dangerous, making Invoking Yell a chilling, intensely unnerving experience.
Written by Barry Keating (Killer Mermaid) and Patricio Valladares (En las Afueras De la Ciudad) and directed by Valladares, Invoking Yell is shot VHS found footage style and has an authentic 1990s feel, from denim jackets to the camera and recording equipment used by the band.

One of Chile's more prolific filmmakers, Patricio Valladares, has wrapped filming his latest, a black metal horror flick called Invoking Yell. And holy shit, two of my friends star in it! Macarena Carrere, who we last saw in Lucio A Rojas' Trauma, stars with Andrea Ozuljevich, who I'll have to confirm this with her, but this looks like her feature film debut. Their co-star, Maria Jesus Marcone, appears to be making her sophomore appearance. That's Marcone in the provided image. Set in 1997 South of Chile, a trio of metalhead twenty something girls venture into the woods to shoot their demo tape for their black metal band, Invoking Yell, while also documenting the eerie and unsettling process of recording psicofonias in the woods for...

I was lucky enough to watch a debut screening of Trauma at the inaugural Soho Horror Film festival, where the crowd were already hyped for this harrowing, messed up piece, and it did not disappoint. Fair comparisons can be made to the likes of A Serbian Film, Martyrs and Hate Crime, relentlessly uncomfortable and chilling in its execution.
When a party of four female friends head to a cabin in rural Chile, stumbling along the hostile locals along the way, they soon learn that their modern, independent ways are not welcome. After settling into their home for the weekend, they are set upon by a maniac Father and Son duo, and subjected to a life changing evening, forever scarring them. Santiago, Chile — Dissatisfied with the way that females are represented in horror films, a group of filmmakers from Latin America and Spain have teamed up to create a new narrative of five short stories – each playing on a common theme, and each with a unique cast of actors and directors attached – in “28,” an in-development project presented as part of this week’s Santiago Lab at the Santiago Intl. Film Festival (Sanfic).
Created with participation from five countries – Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Spain – with an eye on picking up a sixth contributor from the U.S., the stories in “28” will play off the themes of the 28-day female cycle, paralleled with the four-week lunar cycle.
The segments will range from classic slasher-thriller to sci-fi musical to psychological drama, and each story feature a female lead meant to break the mold of the “damsel in distress” trope so common in the horror genre.

The latest, and likely bloodiest, harshest and most extreme blast of violent horror cinema from Latin America comes in the form of Lucio A. Rojas' Trauma. His latest film will have its world premiere at Morbido at the end of the month. Directed by Lucio A. Rojas, the film stars Catalina Martin, Daniel Antivilo, Macarena Carrere, Ximena del Solar, Felipe Ríos, Dominga Bofill, Alejandro Trejo, Max Torres, Claudio Riveros and Eduardo Paxeco. It was produced by Luciano and Nico Onetti who have their own extreme horror offering What the Waters Left Behind playing at the festival as well. Fangoria debuted the Nc-17 trailer yesterday. Trauma tells the brutal story of a group of women stalked and outraged by two men, whose evil...
