“Survivor: Africa” runner-up Kim Johnson has died at the age of 79, according to that season’s winner, Ethan Zohn. The “Survivor” Season 3 contestant’s family confirmed her death.

“Rest in peace Kim Johnson. It was a blessing to call you my friend and a privilege to experience the final tribal council with you,” Zohn wrote on Instagram Monday. “I will forever have that planters punch in your honor!”

While he did not publicly disclose a cause of death, the “Survivor: Winners at War” contestant did tag Stand Up to Cancer in his announcement.

Johnson starred on the third season of “Survivor” in 2001 and ultimately lost the final tribal council vote to Zohn 5-2, winning $100,000 in the process. At the age of 56 at the time of filming, she remains the oldest female finalist in the CBS reality show’s 46-season history.

One of the most prominent Survivor fans is pop superstar Sia, and she's made a tradition of giving her favorite players monetary awards after their seasons end. Sia's a renowned songwriter, performer, and director, who's co-written hits like David Guetta's "Titanium" and Rihanna's "Diamonds." She's also made a name for herself with her own hit songs, including "Chandelier" and "Cheap Thrills."

Since 2016, Sia has regularly given prizes to her favorite Survivor players. The tradition began in season 32, but Sia admitted that she almost gave the late Keith Nale the first "Sia Award" after season 31. However, she finally built up the courage to surprise Jeff Probst by walking onto the stage at the season 32 reunion. She then announced that she'd be donating money to her favorite player, and to charity. Since that moment, 16 Survivor players have received monetary prizes from Sia, due to their actions on the show.

Survivor crowned its newest winner on Wednesday, marking the conclusion of the show’s wild and exciting 44th season.

Of the 18 castaways who began competition in March, only five remained ahead of this week’s finale episode: Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt, Carson Garrett, Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho, Lauren Harpe and Carolyn Wiger.

The three-hour conclusion covered the group’s final three days of competition, as the field was whittled down until the jury voted for the “sole survivor.” After all the votes were cast, Yam Yam wound up walking away with the well-earned win.

After an impressive season of strategic gameplay, some of the best social gameplay in recent memory, and an impressive display to the jury, the 36-year-old salon owner from San Juan, Puerto Rico, took home the show’s $1 million grand prize.

The Survivor world is reeling at the loss of two-time contestant Keith Nale, who died from cancer at the age of 62. Keith first appeared as a castaway on 2014's Survivor: San Juan del Sur ,and quickly became a fan-favorite due to his open-heartedness and sense of humor. The season had a Blood vs. Water theme, meaning the contestants played the game with a loved one. Keith and his son, Wes Nale, were both firefighters from the Shreveport, Louisiana area when they played the game.

Keith made one of Survivor's most unforgettable blunders when he told his alliance to "stick to the plan" at Tribal Council, tipping off the rival alliance to the plot against them. They adjusted on the fly to vote out Wes, leaving Keith in a bad position. However, Keith managed to overcome the odds and make it to the finale, but he was eliminated in fourth place.

The eighth episode of “Survivor 44” aired Wednesday night and concluded with Brandon Cottom getting his torch snuffed out by host Jeff Probst. Keith Nale, a contestant on two seasons of “Survivor,” has died at the age of 62 following a brief battle with cancer.

“He passed away this afternoon,” Nale’s son Wes told Et Online on Tuesday. “He’d been battling cancer for the past few months and we found out about it in January.”

“A life taken way too soon,” Nale’s brother Kevin added in a statement to the outlet. “It happened so quickly. Cancer ate him up. He passed this afternoon at his home in Shreveport, Louisiana.”

Keith and Wes, 32, competed on “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” in 2014 as father-son contestants. Keith later returned to the franchise for “Survivor: Cambodia” in 2015. He went on to the final four on “San Juan del Sur” and the final five on “Cambodia.”

We have some bad news to report about a Survivor favorite.

Keith Nale, who got to play the CBS game show twice, has died.

He was 62.

Nale's son, Wes, revealed the news in a statement to Et.

"He passed away this afternoon," Wes said on Tuesday.

"He'd been battling cancer for the past few months and we found out about it in January."

Keith's brother Kevin Nale added:

"A life taken way too soon! It happed so quickly. Cancer ate him up."

"He passed this afternoon at his home in Shreveport, La."

Keith first appeared on Survivor: San Juan del Sur, where he placed fourth.

He returned for Survivor: Cambodia, in which fans voted him in to give him a second chance at the game.

Keith was eliminated days before the Final Tribal Council of that season.

He played the game with Wes in 2014.

Keith’s son, Wes, told Et on Tuesday, “He passed away this afternoon. He’d been battling cancer for the past few months and we found out about it in January.”

Keith’s brother, Kevin Nale, told Et, “A life taken way too soon!”

“It happened so quickly. Cancer ate him up. He passed this afternoon at his home in Shreveport, Louisiana,” Kevin shared.

Keith participated in two seasons of “Survivor”; “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” and “Survivor: Cambodia”. Wes was a contestant on “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” with his father.

During his time on “Survivor: San Juan del Sur”, Keith was considered an underdog from the beginning, but managed to make it all the way to the final four thanks to his skill in Immunity Challenges and a well-played Hidden Immunity Idol. Natalie Anderson went on to win that season.

Survivor contestant Keith Nale has died at the age of 62.

Nale, who appeared on two iterations of the popular reality series, had been treated for cancer before his death.

The news was announced by Nale’s son Wes, who appeared alongside his father on Survivor: San Juan del Sur in 2014.

“He passed away this afternoon. He’d been battling cancer for the past few months and we found out about it in January,” Wes said, according to Et Online.

Nale, a firefighter, became a fan favourite during his stint on San Juan del Sur, making it to the final four before being voted out. He returned to the franchise in 2015 to compete in Survivor: Cambodia.

Kelley Wentworth, one of Nale’s San Juan del Sur co-stars, shared a tribute to the late performer on social media.

But this season took it to the next level. All 20 contestants had played the game before, but none had won. We sit on the stone steps of Tribal Council and watch Jeff Probst grill the contestants.

CBS's "Survivor: Cambodia" -- aka Season 31, aka "Second Chance" -- is ending its fantastic run on Wednesday, December 16, with a two-hour finale and one-hour reunion show (where probably only Spencer and maybe two other people will be allowed to speak). Don't feel bad for Joe Anglim.

When Survivor returns on Wednesday night, he'll be noticeably absent during the challenges. The rest of the tribe correctly determined that he was a threat to win the whole game and voted him out on day 31.

But Anglim, 27, will be just fine.

"Joe is athletic," host Jeff Probst told People earlier this season. "Joe is good-looking. Women want to date Joe; men wish they were Joe. He's got a lot of skills that make him good at life, but a threat at Survivor"

Case in point: Anglim competed so hard in an immunity challenge that he passed out.

We were excited when he was named as a possible contestant. We were thrilled when he made the final cast of the show. We were ecstatic – and a little bit surprised, if we're being perfectly honest – when he made it through the first tribal council without getting voted off.

As it turned out, Fishbach did better than anyone expected, forming solid alliances and lasting 29 days before being voted out.

Survivor is unpredictable, and Fishbach was eliminated after playing his "steal the vote" advantage? Why?...

The last time Ciera Eastin played Survivor, she infamously voted off her own mother.

So when Eastin decided to play the game again, she knew she would be targeted early as a threat. After all, if she'll vote for her mom, she'll do just about anything.

But something funny happened on this season – everybody was a threat in some way. As a result, Eastin made it for 26 days despite being on the wrong side of the numbers after the merge.

So what's it like getting voted out of Survivor?...

For a show in its 31st season, Survivor has managed to keep things remarkably fresh and new.

A lot of the credit goes to host Jeff Probst and the producers, who throw in a liberal amount of twists and turns so that contestants never truly know what's coming. Over the years, we've seen tribal swaps, fake merges, hidden immunity idols and double eliminations. (We're going to pretend that Redemption Island and the outcast twist never happened.)

But sometimes, the twists are not masterminded by the producers. Contestants have come up with ingenious strategies to change the game.

A new "Survivor" champ has been crowned and the winner is ... With more than 10 million ballots cast, fans of Survivor have selected 10 men and 10 women to head to a remote island later this week to play the game.

All of the contestants have played the game once before, but none of them have walked away with the $1 million check.

These 20 contestants will be immediately sequestered. They will speak to the media on Friday before going to Cambodia to play the game.

On Wednesday (May 6) at the end of the latest episode of the less-than-lackluster "Survivor: Worlds Apart," CBS formally announced what had long been rumored across the Interwebs.  There are 32 candidates up for the "Second Chance" season. As the word "second" implies, this season will only be open to one-time former players who didn't win, so all of your Hantzes and Ruperts are out. Thank God. Fans of the long-running reality series will pick the 20 people who’ll compete in Season 31, CBS announced Wednesday.

Those who visit cbs.com/survivorsecondchance will have their pick of 32 former contestants from Seasons 1-30. None of the contenders won their respective seasons.

We've reached the end of our "Survivor: San Juan del Sur" exit interviews. Natalie Anderson began this "Survivor" season in a defensively position. Not only did she enter the game with a certain reputation from her two seasons on "The Amazing Race" -- "I know we have a lot of Twinny haters. There's no middle. It's either you love us or you hate us," she says -- but sister Nadiya was voted out first by her tribe. That left Natalie with notoriety and without a loved one in the Blood versus Water season. What followed was a "Survivor" run that stood out both for Natalie's sturdy combination game -- She made big strategic moves, performed well in challenges and also found and used an Immunity Idol effectively -- but also for her major image overhaul. For only the third time since "Survivor" switched over to a Final 3, all three remaining castaways received votes at the Final Tribal Council. So kudos to Missy Payne, even if her lone vote came from her daughter Baylor. In retrospect, it's pretty impressive that Missy was even able to stand at the Final 3 at all. The owner of a Dallas-based cheerleading gym hurt her ankle in a late-season Reward Challenge and resisted Jeff Probst's insinuations that she might want to leave the game. Told by the "Survivor" medic that she could stick around if she could stand the pain, Missy refused to quit, even if it meant sitting out several of the season's most important challenges. Perhaps that injury explains why the Jury took Missy so lightly, even though she tried to emphasize her importance in many key early votes. Last night, I posted my interview with the "Survivor: San Juan del Sur" fifth place finisher, Baylor Wilson, who admitted that even though she voted for her mother at Final Tribal, she'd vote for Natalie now if she had the chance. One Jury member who voted for Natalie, but who was a question-mark in my early guesses, was Keith Nale, a 53-year-old firefighter from Louisiana. Keith, who became something of an Immunity machine post-Merge, protecting himself from several possible vote-outs, knew that Natalie had spared him at at least one Tribal, but he also arrived at Final Tribal with some frustration at the remaining Twinie, accusing her of lying to him. In the end, Keith explains that he just thought Natalie was more deserving than the other two finalists, which is a pretty legitimate reason to cast a vote, I suppose. Last fall's edition of Survivor teamed former competitors with friends/family members. The ratings declined. Now, CBS is trying pairs of contestants again. Will the ratings fall lower or rise? Either way, the show's already been renewed through cycle 30 for this spring.
