The best song Christian Karlsson has ever made could be sitting on a hard drive somewhere, unfinished and completely forgotten by the producer and DJ who performs as Galantis. It’s been four years since his last album, Church, and in that time he’s picked up and put down hundreds of raw demos that he has crafted on a near daily basis. “There’s so much music all the time. I mean, I write songs every day and so many people that are in my team write songs every day,...

Earlier this year, during each night on their tour, The 5 Seconds of Summer Show, 5Sos offered an earnest refrain to their audience. “Memories I hold to keep safe, and I live for that look on your face,” all four members sang into their mics during “Best Friends,” from their latest album 5SOS5. The tour — complete with elaborate skits, copious amounts of confetti, and fan-favorite deep cuts — was a celebration not only of their 10th anniversary as a band, but also of the fanbase they’ve cultivated during that time.

The 5 Seconds of Summer Show, the tenth anniversary celebration that the pop-rock band hosted at the close of 2021, was part career-spanning concert film and part Saturday Night Live skit poking fun at their decade-long evolution. It featured a recreation of the video for one of their earliest releases — 2012’s “Gotta Get Out” — alongside their biggest hits, like “Youngblood” and “She Looks So Perfect,” and a funeral for their faded black skinny jeans. But the one thing that has never changed about 5Sos is their commitment to delivering an unrelenting live show.

5 Seconds of Summer is feeling more than five seconds of emotional damage on their new song “Blender” — but at least they’re processing it in a fun, upbeat way. On Wednesday, the group — comprising Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Ashton Irwin, and Calum Hood — released their poppy new single.
“All the things you said in my head/Ricochetting off the bed/Nothing left, what a mess/Oh, my God, it never ends,” sings Hemmings in the chorus. “Now we’re stressed and depressed/And we’re going ’round again/In an еmotional blender.

“Nobody likes you when you’re 23,” as Blink-182 used to sing on MTV — 23 summers ago. But all these years later, pop punk isn’t merely all grown-up. In 2022, pop punk is back from the dead, more popular and influential than ever — suddenly, it’s the Teenager of the Year. It’s a massive resurgence for the music style that always fetishized the ideal of permanent adolescence, turning a bratty sneer into a way of life. But now, pop punk is downright respectable. How the hell did this happen?

5 Seconds of Summer sink deeper into industrial pop with their new single “Teeth.” The song is accompanied by a dark, creepy new video directed by Thibaut Duverneix.

Even in the dark, 5 Seconds of Summer looks so perfect. The Aussie band—made up of Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings and Ashton Irwin—dropped their latest single and music video today and, well, excuse us while we freak out. 5 Seconds of Summer put the old-school machismo of Japan’s Rockabilly culture at the center of their new video for “Youngblood.” The anachronistic clip follows a gang of Fonz lookalikes through Tokyo. They smoke cigarettes and sport shellacked pompadours. Strutting to the propulsive beat, the gang take over a main square, West Side Story-style, pouting at their female Rockabilly counterparts in polka-dot dresses.
The concept for the video came from director Frank Borin (Angel Haze, The Script, Tinashe), who became fascinated by the country’s improbable rockabilly scene during a previous trip to Japan.
