Thanks to the influencer marketing boom, creators with large followings on platforms like YouTube and TikTok are getting larger roles during Super Bowl season. In the weeks leading up to the annual football showdown, brands turned to digital natives in hopes of expanding the reach of their campaigns.
For the 58th edition of the Big Game, creators played multiple positions.
The Logan Pauls and KSIs of the world can use the Super Bowl to advertise their own products, but for other influencers, team-ups with advertisers opened up new doors. It’s not just brands that are getting in on the influencer marketing trend — even the NFL itself is paying attention to the growth of creator content. Written and directed by Chelsea Peretti, First Time Female Director lives in the self-deprecating world of meta storytelling. Debuting at the Tribeca Festival in the Spotlight Narrative section, Peretti put so much of herself into this narrative, it could work as a documentary. It’s also such a comically honest portrayal of what women must endure if they want to get ahead in any career, let alone the theater business. Having to constantly prove to yourself and others that you are capable is so exhausting, but can also be rewarding if you are set up for success. Many are often left to fend for themselves, and the film shows one way of how that can happen.
In addition to Peretti, First Time Female Director boast a hefty cast including Amy Poehler, Andy Richter, Benito Skinner, Blake Anderson, Megan Stalter, Megan Mullally, Jak Knight, and Xosha Roquemore, Kate Berlant and many more.

You can probably guess the premise of Chelsea Peretti’s occasionally amusing film First Time Female Director from its title. The comedy, written and directed by the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star, follows the misadventures of a local theater’s first woman director — how scandal thrusts her into the spotlight and a lack of institutional support tries to yank her out of it. In its roughly 29 seasons, productions at the fictional Regis Theater in Glendale have only ever been directed by men. Sam, an anxious playwright played by Peretti, is about to change that.
As with so many recent historical firsts, Sam’s appointment is propelled by a misbehaving man. When a shocking impropriety shakes the community theater, its artistic director Sheldon Clifford (Andy Richter) fires popular director Greggy Thompson (Tim Heidecker). Sam wasn’t Sheldon’s first, second or, if we’re being honest, even third choice, as evidenced by...

It was in reference to the obligation of doing press, something he clearly does not enjoy. Same goes for his star, Joaquin Phoenix, who turned up to the DGA Theatre to pose for photos and make a brief appearance on stage with the rest of the cast as Aster introduced the A24 epic.
“I still can’t quite believe I was given the resources and the freedom to make this in the way that we did,” Aster said during those remarks in front of a capacity crowd that included Pedro Pascal; Jenna Ortega; Jesse Williams; Everything Everywhere All at Once’s Daniel Kwan, Daniel Schienert, Jonathan Wang and Harry Shum Jr....

Director Ari Aster says it took about six months for Joaquin Phoenix to sign on to star in his new movie, “Beau Is Afraid.”
“You get on your hands and knees and beg,” Aster jokes about his first meeting with the Oscar winner. “He’s the best. He’s the greatest. He’s the prince. And those eyes. He could be so naked, so exposed, and he’s funny. He’s a funny guy.”
Aster (“Hereditary” and “Midsommar”) and his cast celebrated the Los Angeles premiere of the A24 film Monday night at the DGA in West Hollywood.
“It’s when I first saw ‘I’m Still Here’ that I knew I needed to work with this guy,” Aster said. “One, it’s such a funny film, and two, that performance is really a brilliant comic performance. But it’s also because as a gesture that movie is suicidal. What he...

Adele has said she’ll always sing her classic songs after she attended a Radiohead concert where the band didn’t play their song “Creep”.
The 34-year-old appeared in the Happy Hour with Adele special, where she was joined by host and comedian Benito Skinner for some questions from fans.
While discussing if there was any songs that were too painful for her to sing, Skinner asked: “Are there some [songs] that you’re like, ‘I can’t believe I have to sing this still?’”
Adele thought for a moment, before realising Skinner was referring to her inevitably growing tired of singing her hit songs.
“Do you know what yeah, one time I went to a Radiohead show and they didn’t f***ing sing ‘Creep’,” Adele said in response.
“I was so annoyed,” she said, adding: “And I get it, I get it, but I would never do that, just...

Drew Barrymore hasn't played Dylan Sanders in "Charlie's Angels" since the 2003 sequel, but she's ready to reprise the role at any moment's notice. On a Sept. 30 episode of the podcast "Drew's News," Benito Skinner asked the actor how she feels about potentially returning to the franchise.
"I just was watching Lucy, funny enough, who I was texting with this morning," she said, referencing her costar Lucy Liu. "And she was at Comic-Con . . . and they asked her, 'Would you do a Charlie's [Angels] 3?' And I was on the edge of my seat. I would be surprised if any one of us ever decreed that we wouldn't [do a third movie]. I would. I would in a heartbeat. The answer is an emphatic yes. I will always say yes."
Back at Comic-Con in July, Liu was asked if she'd ever work with Cameron Diaz and Barrymore on a Charlie's Angels movie again, and her answer was a bit less definitive.

Good afternoon, angels! Drew Barrymore’s got news — the actress is ready to reprise her role as one of Charlie’s iconic angels.
Barrymore revealed that she’d easily say yes to a third installment of the “Charlie’s Angels” films, which she starred in alongside Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, should the opportunity ever present itself.

She also noted how Liu, her former co-star, was recently asked the same question — whether or not she’d be on board for a third film.

And grateful for my champions at MarVista, who took this from script to screen. “Hiring ‘first time female directors’ has been a core focus of mine throughout my career,” said Hannah Pillemer, EVP of Creative at MarVista Entertainment. “The chance to support a comedic visionary like Chelsea is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we are honored she chose MarVista to go on this journey with her. Our entire team is thrilled to partner with Paper Kite, and we cannot wait for the world to see this unique and distinctively hilarious film!”

TikTok will be the presenting sponsor of two major Southern California events this June.
Ten days before it places itself front-and-center at the 2022 edition of VidCon, the short-form video app will attach its name to another well-known celebration. It will be the presenting sponsor of the 2022 L.A. Pride Parade, which will march through Hollywood on June 12.
Though the literal parade will occur on the 12th, L.A. Pride festivities will begin a day earlier, and TikTok will have a presence for the entire weekend. A "Pride in the Park" concert will take place on June 11, and the popular app will be there to provide backstage coverage. This will be the second straight year that TikTok goes live to amplify the music that surrounds L.A.'s LGBTQ+ celebration. In 2021, it offered up a stream of 'Thrive With Pride,' which was hosted by creator Benito Skinner (aka Benny Drama...

The trailer for Peacock’s “Queer as Folk” hints at developing romances, pride events and at least one mother trying to pry into her child’s new relationship.
The show is a reimagining of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T. Davies it follows “a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.” The tragedy is also heavily hinted at in the trailer.
“Like most queer ‘90s kids, I had a unique relationship with the original ‘Queer as Folk,'” Stephen Dunn, creator, executive producer, writer and director of the Peacock version, previously said in a statement. “Growing up, I was desperate for any sort of connection with people like me. It was the first time I really felt seen. The show offered a new paradigm – one where we could accept and celebrate queer love, families, and communities on a global stage.

“Sorry for my Buffalo Bill moment,” says Benito Skinner when he first logs onto Zoom. He’s referring to the mannequin heads behind him in his Los Angeles apartment: a pink-pastel number that would fit Bella Thorne’s OnlyFans days; a brunette Jackie O pageboy complete with pillbox cap; and a Marilyn Monroe blonde bouffant. But Skinner, 27, needs all the synthetic hair he can get. As Benny Drama, he’s amassed more than a million Instagram followers, creating characters like the chain-smoking Little Orphan Annie homage Throat Rippin’ Annie (“I grew up in an orphanage.
