Rihanna has dropped a new single, “Friend of Mine.” The upbeat, Afrobeats-inspired dance track was written for forthcoming animated movie Smurfs, in which the singer voices Smurfette.
A video for the song sees Rihanna approaching the Smurfs’ village with a giant flower as an umbrella. As she goes inside, it transitions to animation and the small blue creatures dance along to the lively track—with some pretty impressive moves. The club-ready single marks Rihanna’s first new music since 2022’s “Lift Me Up,” recorded for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

"Andor" might be officially over, but the reactions, revelations, and discussions surrounding the most acclaimed live-action "Star Wars" series ever certainly aren't going anywhere anytime soon. After spending years getting to know Diego Luna's Cassian Andor with far more subtlety and nuance than "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" ever had time for, we now know exactly what made him into the hardened Rebel operative we saw in the 2016 movie. Yet, even this sprawling, 12-episode final season had quite a few surprises up its sleeve -- not all of which ultimately made the final cut.
Creator and writer Tony Gilroy has been making the press rounds lately (including a recent conversation with /Film's very own Ben Pearson), and in one particular interview, he opened up about his original plans for a major original trilogy cameo that was simply not to be. The timeline of "Andor" allowed quite a few...

Get out your umbrellas because Rihanna is dropping new music. The multi-Grammy-winning artist shared a new look at the Smurfs movie, and it's backed by her first original song in nearly three years, titled "Friend of Mine." Moreover, she's set to release the track in full this week on Friday, May 16, to get viewers ready for the interdimensional journey with Peyo's little blue people. The trailer opens with her dancing along to the song in the recording booth before Smurfette performs a snippet of the Afrobeats-sounding track alongside the rest of the Smurf village.
"Friend of Mine" will be just a taste of the new tracks Rihanna has planned for the family animated feature. In addition to leading the cast as Smurfette, she's also in charge of the soundtrack, writing and recording plenty of original material befitting the Smurfs. It's an exciting development considering Rihanna hasn't released a new album since 2016's Anti,...

The new trailer for Paramount Pictures' Smurfs reboot is now online, and it gives us a much better idea of what to expect from the animated/live-action hybrid musical.
The teaser introduces the diminutive blue creatures of the title living happily and dancing away in Smurf Village. When Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is captured by the villainous Razamel (brother of the better-known Gargamel from the original cartoon), Smurfette (Rihanna) steps up to lead a rescue mission to the real world.
Chris Miller and Matt Landon direct, while Pam Brady wrote the screenplay. The voice cast also features Natasha Lyonne, Nick Offerman, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, Daniel Levy, Octavia Spencer, Sandra Oh, Hannah Waddingham, Xolo Maridueña, James Corden, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, and Kurt Russell.
“The DNA in Peyo’s original drawings guide so many creative choices in the film,” Miller said at a presentation at the Annecy Animation Festival last June.

Paramount Pictures has just released the newest trailer for the animated/live-action crossover adventure. The studio that brought us the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will tap into another nostalgic property this July with Smurfs, an animated adventure based on characters created by Belgian comic artist Peyo. Paramount Animation brings this film in association with Domain Entertainment. The movie is also a Ty Ty and Jay Brown production.
Rihanna joins the village as the new voice of Smurfette, as well as contributing to the soundtrack of the movie with her new song, “Friend of Mine,” which can be found on the soundtrack that’s out Friday — you can check it out Here. Smurfs combines the style of the classic Saturday morning cartoons with more modern 3D animation. Smurf Village is devastated when a mysterious force abducts Papa Smurf and it’s up to a small group of ragtag Smurfs to get him back.

Theaters around the world are about to see blue again. Paramount has released a new trailer for its upcoming live-action/animated Smurfs reboot.
Paramount has heavily leaned its marketing for Smurfs into making sure audiences know that Grammy-winning singer Rihanna is voicing Smurfette in the new movie. This continues in the latest trailer, which spends the first several seconds showing footage of Rihanna in the recording booth. When the trailer officially starts, a lot is going on, with Papa Smurf being taken prisoner, the Smurfs journeying into the live-action world (in what is now an overused trope for this franchise), and the snooterpoots (a Minions-level cute and small creature) making their debut. Check out the new trailer and poster for Smurfs below.

The Smurfs are back, but whether that’s a good thing or not, we’re not quite sure. These blue creatures have been a pop culture staple for decades, and now they’re making a comeback in Smurfs, a reboot set for release in 2025. Unlike previous adaptations, however, this one will be a musical, with, perhaps, more surprises along the way.
PG movies are making a box office comeback, even outperforming PG-13 films last year. Paul Dergarabedian from Comscore says they’re becoming a real summer force. And while streaming is always there, filmmakers like Dean Fleischer Camp (Lilo & Stitch) believe nothing beats the magic of a movie theater, especially for kids.
With an all-star cast and an attempt to break down the Smurf mythology, this could either be a delightful trip down memory lane or yet another miss for the franchise. Let’s break it all down, and what we know about the project.

After the passing of Ray Stevenson and the premiere of Season 1 of Ahsoka, it was clear that Star Wars had a real tough choice to make. His character, Baylan Skoll, was instantly iconic, and it was clear from the season's cliffhanger that there was so much more to tell. However, there was a real question about how to do it. Star Wars had been embracing deep fake technology, and some actors, like James Earl Jones, approved using AI for their voice and likeness before they passed away.
While impressive from a special effects standpoint, there was something about these technological choices that didn't look or sound right. Fans have been mixed on these applications in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Book of Boba Fett.
So, with the announcement of Rory McCann stepping in for Baylan Skoll and the reveal that Benjamin Bratt now plays Bail Organa in Andor,...

It’s hard to believe that there are just six episodes of Tony Gilroy’s Andor left, but as we scooch closer to the events of Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, some familiar faces from the galaxy far, far away are sure to stop by. Andor season 2 has already brought back Ben Mendelsohn’s villainous Orson Krennic to expand the Imperial director’s backstory, while Alan Tudyk is confirmed to reprise his role as K-2So. There are whispers we could see more of Mads Mikkelsen’s Galen Erso, and although the idea of Felicity Jones popping up might be a pipe dream, the fact that Andor is confirmed to collide with the start of Rogue One means anything is possible.
More than just old favorites, Andor has juggled his plenty of newcomers with a starring role for Diego Luna’s titular 'rebel scum”. Standouts like Stellan Skarsgård...

Billie Eilish’s name may be iconic, but that doesn’t mean she loved it growing up.
The multi Grammy- and Oscar-winning singer-songwriter was recently asked questions by several of her famous friends, including Ariana Grande, Chappell Roan, Sza and Greta Gerwig, for British Vogue‘s May cover story. Among them was actor Idris Elba, who asked Eilish if she was ever “embarrassed” by her name and “who was the first namesake you ever came across and how did it make you feel?”
“I absolutely hated my name when I was a kid. ‘I thought Billie was a boy’s name.’ That’s all I ever heard every day of my life,” the “Birds of a Feather” artist admitted. “I remember just being so mad, and all I wanted was to have a girly name, like Violet or like Lavender, some sort of, you know, pretty flowery name.”

If there's one element to the "The Last of Us" universe more divisive than Joel's (Pedro Pascal) decision to protect Ellie (Bella Ramsey), it's the new character who shows up in the second game. Making her debut in season 2 of HBO's live-action adaptation of the beloved video game franchise is controversial character Abby, an outsider that fans got to know (whether they liked it or not) in "The Last of Us Part II." Wandering in from the snow and heating things up to unimaginable levels, this outsider from an opposing faction to Joel and Ellie's plays a massive part in the story that's set to unfold in the new season.
To take on such a gig is a big ask, particularly given the reaction the character initially received from fans following the release of "The Last of Us Part II." Thankfully, this part is being played by Kaitlyn Dever. She's...

The development was confirmed Thursday morning in a brief statement sharing that after 15 years together, the partners Stephen Huvane, Simon Halls, Robin Baum, Ina Treciokas and Andy Gelb have all “decided to move forward on separate paths.” The statement added that Treciokas will soon announce her next venture while the others, Huvane, Halls, Baum and Gelb, will “do the same.”
“The partners depart with mutual respect and appreciation for their joint accomplishments at Slate PR,” per a statement received by The Hollywood Reporter. “The partners sincerely thank their clients, colleagues and industry peers for their support throughout the years. Mid-Century Modern star and Hollywood icon Nathan Lane explains exactly why the hit sitcom is "more important than ever."
Per Deadline, Lane spoke about the importance of the series during an appearance at the Deadline Contenders TV panel. "It's more important than ever these days now that we're in an authoritarian regime," Lane said, "and all of our rights are under threat."
Created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan and directed by James Burrows, Mid-Century Modern premiered on Hulu on March 28 to largely positive reviews from critics. The series stars Lane as Bunny Schneiderman, who joins his best friends Jerry Frank and Arthur Broussard, portrayed by Matt Homer and Nathan Lee Graham, respectively, in moving to Palm Springs following the death of another close friend. Mid-Century Modern also stars Linda Lavin as Bunny's mother, Sybil, who lets the trio move into her home upon their arrival. Apart from its leading cast,...

Billie Lourd says her comedic family helped her with her acting skills.
The 32-year-old actress, whose mother was Carrie Fisher and whose grandmother was Debbie Reynolds, said that growing up in an ultra-talented family helped her establish her career.
“I’d say definitely the comedy is in the genetics,” she told People in a new interview.

“They were better at it than me. I can do a fair bit of tap dancing, not as good as young Debbie Reynolds, but that’s also in the genes, although my mom kind of sucked at tap dancing,” she joked.

People often describe the experience of working alongside a group of close-knit collaborators on a film or television show as being like a family. There’s no better way to say it for Billie Lourd regarding her newest credit on Hulu’s Mid-Century Modern.
The comedy reunites the veteran star with her Scream Queens, American Horror Story and American Horror Stories boss Ryan Murphy, who serves as an executive producer of the Max Mutchnick and David Kohan-created series. The latter two TV titans also have a tight connection with Lourd after finding a sweet spot for her on their Will & Grace reboot, playing Fiona, the granddaughter of a character played by her late grandmother, Debbie Reynolds. The new Hulu series “Mid-Century Modern” was pitched as the “gay Golden Girls,” according to creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.
The 10-episode comedy launches on March 28, and the cast and crew uniformly herald it as a revival of classic sitcoms like Mutchnick and Kohan’s previous hit “Will & Grace” or “Alice,” the long-running show starring the late Linda Lavin, who they recruited for the new series.
However, “Mid-Century Modern,” is a bit racier than its predecessors.
“Because of the people at Hulu, we have been allowed to push the boundary. This is a show that now sounds a little bit more like we all sound,” Mutchnick said during a Q&a with the cast at the series premiere event, held at the DGA Theater in L.A. on Tuesday. “No one has to say ‘boink’ when they want to fuck.”

When a new series receives the James Burrows stamp of approval, it’s almost guaranteed to be a hysterical ride. Linda Lavin’s final role on television will be in “Mid-Century Modern” this Friday, so her co-stars and the sitcom creators made sure to honor the late star at their Hulu premiere on Tuesday.
“Linda Lavin was the most joyous, gracious, amazing person that you’d ever want to meet. She worked from the age of 5 to 87 and went out blazing like the star she was,” Nathan Lee Graham told TheWrap. “She truly was a pro at everything. This woman did everything: she could play the piano; she could sing; she could act, comedy, drama equally as well. She was a light. I call her the spiritual showrunner of our show. She’s the glue, she keeps us going. She’s the puppetmaster, she’s doing all of this tonight. So, she’s here.”
The Tony Award winner and Emmy-nominated actress died in December at age 87 from complications of lung cancer before Season 1 had wrapped.

George Clooney is arguably one of the most popular leading men in Hollywood. However, the actor says he no longer has much interest in the romance genre.
"Look, I'm 63 years old. I'm not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men," Clooney told 60 Minutes. That's not my job. I'm not doing romantic films anymore," he added. The actor is currently preparing for his Broadway debut in the upcoming production of Good Night, and Good Luck. The stage play is adapted from the 2005 film of the same name which starred David Strathairn as the newsman.

Mid-Century Modern follows three best friends – gay gentlemen of a certain age – who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother.
As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done.
Mid-Century Modern stars Nathan Lane as Bunny Schneiderman, Matt Bomer as Jerry Frank, Nathan Lee Graham as Arthur Broussard and Linda Lavin as Sybil Schneiderman, Bunny’s mother.

Have you been missing Matt Bomer on your screen? Well, we're about to get a whole lot more of him when his highly anticipated Hulu sitcom Mid-Century Modern makes its premiere in March 2025. Even though the actor has been known for his drama work, most recently earning an Emmy Award nomination for his work in Showtime's limited series Fellow Travelers, he's prepared to bring the laughs as the lead of a multi-cam sitcom for the first time.
Mid-Century Modern premieres on Friday, March 28 on Hulu. That's much sooner than I imagined Hulu would drop the show! While the premiere's coming up very soon, the release date news gets even better. Hulu isn't releasing the 10-episode season weekly, instead opting for a binge drop. It's great to hear that Hulu learned from its mistake of weekly drops of sitcoms, which killed the momentum of How I Met Your Father, and will...

Pamela Anderson delivers the performance of her career in Gia Coppola’s drama. Here’s our The Last Showgirl review.
Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl would make an excellent double-bill with Coralie Fargeat’s 2024 sensation The Substance. Granted, you won’t see Pamela Anderson birth a younger version of herself in Coppola’s film, but The Last Showgirl might leave you pondering about aging as a woman and how showbusiness only values youth and beauty.
Anderson plays Shelly, a 57-year-old showgirl who has performed at the same revue show in Las Vegas for the last three decades. All good things must come to an end and so does Shelly’s show, but this is the only life and work she has ever known. Las Vegas isn’t friendly to women of a certain age as it is and Shelly becomes increasingly worried about her future.

Anderson’s depiction of an older performer’s struggles, as youth slips away and family fractures, rivals Demi Moore’s in The Substance
Warm and generous performances carry this good-natured movie from director Gia Coppola; it’s actually the sort of approachable, actor-led drama for grownups that pundits complain Hollywood doesn’t produce any more. Pamela Anderson stars as Shelly, a middle-aged Las Vegas showgirl and 30-year veteran of a cheesy spectacle called Le Razzle Dazzle, gamely putting on the feathers and the sparkly rhinestones and revealing costumes alongside dancers in their teens – all for dwindling audiences who are looking for novelties and more overtly sexualised shows elsewhere.
Shelly is stunned to learn that the show is getting canned and must now figure out what to do with her life and how to repair relations with her grownup daughter Hannah (Billie Lourd), who always felt she came second in her...
