The lineup for the 2025 iteration of Seattle’s Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival has been announced, led by headliners Weezer (performing The Blue Album in its entirety), Bright Eyes, Janelle Monáe, Car Seat Headrest, and Sylvan Esso.

The two-day festival will go down in Seattle over Labor Day Weekend, on August 30th and 31st. Filling out the lineup will be performances by Aurora, Digable Planets, The Budos Band, Tennis, Indigo De Souza, Saba, Tank and the Bangas, The Linda Lindas, Real Estate, Scowl, Murder City Devils, Spellling, and others. Broken Social Scene have announced Anthems: A Celebration Of Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It In People, a front-to-back tribute record to their indie rock classic. The reworked edition of the 2002 LP is out June 6th and today, they’ve released “Anthems For a Seventeen Year-Old Girl” as covered by Maggie Rogers and Sylvan Esso. Listen below.

Speaking to their cover of “Anthems For a Seventeen Year-Old Girl,” Rogers said that the track “changed [her] life.” “There’s something about the lyrical repetition that functions as a sort of mantra within the song and it made me understand at a very early point in my creative life that music could be a form of meditation.”

Rogers continued, “Broken Social Scene has long been one of my all-time favorite bands and covering it with my dear friends Nick and Amelia from Sylvan Esso was an absolute joy beam dream.”

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many musicians have used their platforms to try to deliver some much-needed relief. Some have donated money, others have announced benefit concerts — now, joining those efforts is a massive compilation album featuring 135 previously-unreleased tracks from artists like R.E.M., Jeff Tweedy & Karly Hartzman, Jason Isbell, Fleet Foxes, Waxahatchee, Sylvan Esso, and many more.

Titled Cardinals at the Window, the compilation was officially released today, and is now available to purchase on Bandcamp. Curated by three North Carolina natives — musician and community organizer Libby Rodenbough, New Commute founder David Walker, and music journalist Grayson Haver Currin — the album will raise funds for three organizations: Rural Organizing and Resilience, BeLoved Asheville, and the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina.

Wilco have enlisted Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Nick Lowe and the Straitjackets, and Iris DeMent for the 2024 Solid Sound Festival. The three-day event will take place June 28 through 30 at Mass MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts.

Tyler Childers and his band The Food Stamps have announced their “Mule Pull ’24 Tour.” It comes in celebration of the singer-songwriter’s new album Rustin’ in the Rain.

Kicking off in April, Childers’ newly announced North American run will make stops at major venues like NYC’s Madison Square Garden, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena (two nights), Kia Forum, Austin’s Moody Center, and Dickies Arena in Forth Worth, TX. 9 June 2023 —Breakout artist Sarah Kinsley has released Ascension, her debut EP for Verve Forecast and Decca UK. The EP’s release is accompanied by a music video for standout track “Black Horse.”

As Kinsley describes the EP: “Ascension is about this unknown, ethereal place—the islands we create with people we have loved, where our phrases with them live, where our conversations outlast us, where every moment we have experienced lives again and again. Sylvan Esso have issued a new EP in which they perform songs from their latest record, No Rules Sandy, Live at Electric Lady, and cover a song by Low.

Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn were joined by several accomplished musicians for their Electric Lady session, including Jenn Wasner, Tj Maiani, Joe Westerlund, and Mason Stoops. What’s more, the EP features strings by the Attaca Quartet, arranged by Gabriel Kahane.

In addition to five renditions of cuts from No Rules Sandy, Live at Electric Lady features a cover of Low’s “Will the Night,” recorded as a tribute to late drummer Mimi Parker.

Type O Negative are widely considered the definitive goth metal band, so it’s only appropriate that on World Goth Day (May 22nd), a new AI-generated video for the group’s song “Halloween in Heaven” has been unveiled.

The late Peter Steele originally penned the track as a tribute to Dimebag Darrell, and it was included on what would be Type O’s final album Dead Again in 2007. Dimebag even appears in the new video, alongside the many rock heroes Steele mentions in the song’s lyrics: “Bonham on drums, Entwistle on bass, as guest morticians / Bon Scott on vox, Rhoads just for kicks, on guitar Hendrix / Lennon sits in with his friend George but where is Morrison?”

Foo Fighters are set to open a new 450-person capacity venue in Washington, DC, built as a replica of the original 9:30 Club.

The Atlantis, which sits next door to the current iteration of the 9:30 Club, will open its doors on May 30th with Foo Fighters, kicking off a run of 44 special shows. The venue’s calendar also promises shows headlined by The Walkmen, Pixies, Franz Ferdinand, X, Tegan and Sara, Jenny Lewis, Spoon, Billy Idol, Maggie Rogers, Bartees Strange, Portugal. the Man, Jeff Tweedy, and more.

Wilco are heading back to Mexico this December for their Sky Blue Sky Festival. They’ve unveiled the full lineup for its 2023 iteration today, which includes Father John Misty, Sylvan Esso, and Lucinda Williams.

Wilco themselves, of course, are also featured on the lineup for Sky Blue Sky 2023, where they’ll play three shows throughout the four-day festival at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. It’s nice to step out from under the clouds every now and then.

Sylvan Esso released their new album No Rules Sandy via Loma Vista to critical acclaim earlier in the year, and after five long years, the duo will return to the UK/EU in 2023 for limited live dates.

Created primarily over the course of three weeks that Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn spent in a small Los Angeles rental home at the beginning of 2022, the album is both the fastest the band has ever made a record, and the most uninhibited. “Even if we weren’t feeling good, we would just sit down and try to make something,” Meath says. “Pretty much every day that we did that, we got a song that we liked.”

The tour will take place in July 2023 and will see headline dates in Berlin, Amsterdam, Dublin, and London.

John Cale, the ever-inventive Welsh musician and former member of the Velvet Underground, has announced his first new album of all new material in 10 years, Mercy, out Jan. 20, 2023 via Double Six/Domino.

The album announcement is accompanied by a new song, “Story of Blood,” which features vocals from Weyes Blood’s Natalie Mering. There’s also a music video, steeped in spiritual and religious imagery, directed by Emmy-winning director Jethro Waters.

Brandi Carlile anchors this weekend’s 48th-season premiere of Austin City Limits, bringing a little bit of church into Austin’s Moody Theater with her.

The tour kicks off Sept. 19 at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado and will continue through much of the fall, wrapping Nov. 10 at Massey Hall in Toronto. Mumford will receive support from singer-songwriter Danielle Ponder between Sept. 19 and Oct. 14, while the A’s — a new band featuring Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath and Daughter of Swords’ Alexandra Sauser-Monnig — will provide support from Oct. 17 – Nov. 10 (except on Oct. 30).

When Wilco invited Neal Francis to join them onstage at their Sky Blue Sky destination festival in Mexico this past January, they asked the Chicago piano-rocker what song of theirs he’d like to play.

LeVar Burton will host the Grammys’ “premiere ceremony,” the pre-telecast afternoon event during which the vast majority of winners will be announced April 3.

The Grammys-before-the-Grammys will get underway at the the MGM Grand Conference Marquee Ballroom in Las Vegas at 12:30 p.m. Pt/3:30 Et. The early unveiling of winners be available for streaming on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel as well as at live.grammy.com.

With fewer than 20 categories typically being announced on the air during the prime-time CBS telecast, that means more than three-quarters of the night’s 86 winners will likely be announced during the afternoon event.

A number of performances will be sprinkled into the premiere ceremony, as is customary, with country star and best new artist nominee Jimmie Allen and thrice-nominated Americana artist Allison Russell among those set to lend a tune in the ballroom. Fellow nominees Ledisi, Mon Laferte and Curtis Stewart will perform as well.

Arctic Monkeys, Gorillaz, Lorde, and Jack Harlow are among the headliners of Life Is Beautiful 2022, which returns to Las Vegas this September.

Sylvan Esso appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to showcase their single “Ferris Wheel.” The indie electro band, comprised of husband and wife duo Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, gave a vibey performance of the song backed by blue and purple lights.
