Daniel Patrick Cohen is a British musician based in Romania with a range of musical interests including film music, hip hop and electronic music. Daniel first garnered international attention when he was among a handful of contemporary British composers invited to produce scores for Alfred Hitchcock's silent films as part of the British Film Institute's 'Rescue the Hitchcock 9' project. His score for The Pleasure Garden has been performed in the UK, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and most recently in Romania at Transilvania International Film Festival.
In early 2015, Daniel released a concept album entitled The Passenger after the Michelangelo Antonioni film of the same name. On hearing Barry Adamson's Oedipus Schmoedipus for the first time, filmmaker David Lynch reportedly described it as being "like hearing Hitch[cock]'s films in your head". It was this remark that inspired Daniel's album.
More recently, Daniel wrote Reciprocity, a 28' chamber work for voice, taped narration, eight celli, piano, and percussion. The piece is a song cycle which sets to music 6 poems by Darya Eugenie Farha, the Canadian poet, therapist, filmmaker and clothing designer. Commissioned by her sister, Juliana Farha, it has been performed both in London and in Ottawa, at the chamber music festival Chamberfest.
