Sam Heughan bids emotional, final goodbye to Jamie, promises we'll love Outlander finale
Image
Sometime soon — maybe by the end of the year, maybe early in 2025 — Starz will air the eighth and final season of Outlander, bringing an end to the beloved time-traveling romance series. Outlander has been going strong for a long time, and fans will no doubt find it hard to say goodbye. Sam Heughan, who plays 18th century heartthrob Jamie Fraser, is pouring gasoline on the fire by posting a video where he walks out of his final-ever Adr session for the show.

Adr stands for Automated Dialogue Replacement, where actors rerecord select lines to be dubbed over in the final version. This is the last-ever thing he will do on Outlander, and he's emotional about it:

Outlander completed on the Universal lot. The studio's behind me, but yeah, I'm very emotional. I'm very excited for the fans to see the final episode.

The talk is, of course, about Outlander, and it is currently airing weekly on Starz. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel series of the same name, it follows Jamie and Claire Fraser, whose love knows no boundaries, not even the ones set by time.

As Jamie and Claire, and their loved ones constantly have to face some sort of obstacle, Season 7 of Outlander certainly takes it even further and drops some massive bombshells on our beloved characters. One specific character has become increasingly important, and Episode 12 of the new Outlander season follows him along as he tries to deal (or not deal) with a life-changing piece of information.

Outlander cast teases "bittersweet" season 7 finale, final season beyond that
Image
Things have been wild over on Outlander lately. Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) heard her husband Jamie (Sam Heughan) had died at sea, so she and Jamie's best friend Lord John Grey (David Berry) took solace in each other, engaging in a night of sad despairing sex. Then Jamie turned up alive things got complicated. And if that weren't enough, Lord John's son William (Charles Vandervaart) learned that he was actually Jamie's biological son. William and Jamie both had meltdowns and we're still sorting through the fallout.

Will Jamie and Claire's marriage emerge from this trial unscatched? Caitronia Balfe thinks so. “This is a marriage that has endured,” she told TV Line. “Their core is solid. There’s things that will definitely rock them, and there are wounds that may take a long time to heal, but it’s work, right? From here on out, it’s about work. It’s...

The Real Hero Of Outlander Is Not Who You're Thinking Of
Image
Warning: This article briefly discusses sexual assault.

Starz's massively popular Outlander series, adapted from Diana Gabaldon's novels of the same name, continues to deliver just the right blend of history, swashbuckling, time travel, and romance. Over the course of the show's seven-season run thus far, the show's stars Jamie and Claire Fraser find themselves in binds of history-altering proportions. While romantic hero Jamie Fraser comes to Claire's rescue many times, his character tends to act on instinct, sometimes without considering the longtime impacts of his actions.

On the other hand, his unlikely best friend, the closeted gay man Lord John Grey (played by David Berry), has swept in to rescue both Jamie and his family on a number of occasions, and his motivations are entirely selfless. In season 3, when Jamie is held as a prisoner of war at Ardsmuir for his role in the Jacobite Rebellion Battle of Culloden,...

Sam Heughan cuts Outlander cake to celebrate 100 episodes!
Image
The first episode of Outlander, the time-traveling drama based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon, aired back in August of 2014, just over 10 years ago. The cast and crew have been making the series for even longer. And the other day, they reached a milestone that few series can boast of: they filmed their 100th episode!

Cast members Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), David Berry (Lord John Grey) and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts marked the occasion by cutting into a cake labeled "Outlander 100 episodes." The honors went to Heughan, who cut the thing with a sword, because of course:

Outlander Season 7, Part 2's Jamie & Claire Story Is Exactly What Season 8 Needs
Outlander (2014)
After a one-year gap, Outlander season 7 is poised to return to Starz in November 2024, but with one massive change: Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitrona Balfe) will be separated. The Jamie-Claire Outlander season 7, part 2 story update confirms that the beloved pair will disperse, with Claire returning to the colonies for a time. Memorably, Outlander season 7, part 1's ending saw the couple journeying to Jamie's homeland. Between the remnants of the Jacobite rebellion, which continues to haunt the pair, to the conflicts of the American Revolutionary War, there are many obstacles to navigate.

The remainder of season 7 is set to adapt what's left of An Echo in the Bone, the seventh novel in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander book series. With just eight episodes left before the final outing, Outlander season 8, the acclaimed series is still introducing new twists and turns. However, these fresh wrinkles guarantee a dramatic, action-packed send-off for...

Outlander's Caitriona Balfe dreads having to say goodbye after finishing final season
Image
Outlander fans are gearing up for the second part of season 7, premiering in November. But we're also looking beyond to the final chapter of the series. We can't contain our enthusiasm for how the epic time-traveling love story will end, and there are so many questions about how the series will take its final bow.

Fans are chomping at the bit to learn more about the ending, and the cast members are apparently right there with us. While speaking with Collider, Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser) revealed that while she has read some of the final script, she hasn't read all of it. Basically, she's just as much in the dark as us. "The last script, I don't think any of us have read the full script," she shared. "I think they're still keeping parts of it to themselves until the very day that we film it. It's kind of interesting,...

Bear McCreary and Raya Yarbrough tease their musical involvement in Outlander season 8 and beyond (Interview)
Image
Onscreen and in the fictional world of Outlander, there's absolutely no argument who's the ultimate Otp and power couple. Of course that would be our beloved Jamie and Claire Fraser. Though in real life those responsible for the music, singing, and bringing the historical drama to life in that way are the musical power couple of the series. And that's husband and wife duo, composer Bear McCreary and singer Raya Yarbrough!

Earlier this summer at San Diego Comic-Con, Show Snob had the opportunity to speak with them both as McCreary was there to promote his new album, graphic novel, and concert experience, The Singularity. And you can bet that his lovely wife Yarbrough is one of the many people involved in the project.

The two have worked on endless projects together, including Outlander. McCreary manages to give us all the feels - whether it's a romantic, emotional, or even a...

How The Outlander Book Series Lines Up With Each Season Of The Show (& What Changes)
Image
Outlander is a 9-novel epic story that inspired a faithful TV adaptation spanning 7+ seasons on Starz. Season by season, the show follows the novels closely, with some changes like character arcs and storylines. Season 7 is split into two parts, adapting multiple books, with Season 8 as the TV series finale.

The Outlander book series is an epic nine-novel story that serves as the source material for the popular Starz show of the same name and, for the most part, the seasons faithfully adapt the books in order. Author Diana Gabaldon wrote the first novel in the series, Outlander, in 1991. The following eight books were released over the next 20 years, with the longest pause between publishing being between book eight, Written in My Own Heart's Blood (2014), and book nine, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone (2021). The Outlander series also includes spinoff novellas, graphic novels, and audiobooks.

7 seasons of Outlander are available to watch through Starz.

Why ‘Outlander’ was not nominated at the 2024 Golden Globes
Image
2023 was a year full of highs and lows for fans of “Outlander.” High: Their favorite romance epic returned for Season 7, Part 1 (which aired from June 16 to August 11) after more than a year-long drought. Low: But it just failed to receive any Golden Globe nominations on the morning of Monday, December 11. High: Starz officially green-lighted a prequel series titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” to air in the near future. Low: But that meant the parent series would officially be ending with Season 8. Deep breaths, “Outlander” fans — we’ll all get through this together.

Voters of the Golden Globe association snubbed “Outlander” in the top Best Drama Series category, and its leading stars — Caitriona Balfe as Claire Fraser for Best Drama Actress and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser for Best Drama Actor — were skunked, too. So why was Season 7, Part 1 of “Outlander” not nominated at the 2024 Golden Globes?

Mark Lewis Jones
Outlander's Mark Lewis Jones on Tom Christie's Sacrifice, Shocking Return, and Transformation
Mark Lewis Jones
Tom Christie is alive. His quick wits saved him in much the same way they worked to free Claire Fraser, saving her life.

During a recent press day, we had the chance to speak with Mark Lewis Jones about Tom's motivations and what it was like playing the enigmatic character who has fallen deeply in love with Claire.

He shared many great insights about the story and the complexities of Tom Christie. I hope you enjoy the conversation.

Tom Christie is a very complex man with a very strong moral code. How did that play into giving his life in exchange for Claire's?

Yeah. It's a big journey, isn't it?

It is.

From where we first meet Tom to where we end up. I guess you do it bit by bit, and it's a very slow reveal. Those scenes in Series Six are great fun to play, even though he...

Caitriona Balfe Says "Outlander" Season 8 Is on Hold Due to the Writers' Strike
Image
"Outlander" has reached the beginning of the end. The show's seventh season premiered on June 16, meaning that fans now have less than two full seasons left until the Fraser family's story comes to a conclusion.

Starz initially announced the news that the show was ending on Jan. 19, 2023, confirming that the series's eighth season would be its last. "What an incredible journey with an incredible fanbase," the network tweeted. "'Outlander' has officially been renewed for an eighth and final season."

At the time, Starz also tweeted a video compilation featuring some of the show's stars, who thanked viewers for their support and devotion over the years. "Thank you so much for being with us from day one," said Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser, the series's central character whose trip back in time to 1743 catalyzes all of the subsequent events. Later in the video, Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser,...

Caitriona Balfe Teases That "Outlander" Costar Sam Heughan Is "So High-Maintenance"
Image
Jamie and Claire Fraser have been through a lot. War, child loss, allegations of witchcraft, and, well, the time travel of it all. That's nothing, though, compared to the daily battle their portrayers face just working alongside each other on "Outlander." "It's got worse, hasn't it? Each season, it just gets more and more fractious," Sam Heughan tells Popsugar. Echoes Caitriona Balfe, "It's very difficult. Very difficult to work with this human. So high-maintenance."

They're joking, of course. Much like their onscreen counterparts, Heughan and Balfe have developed a bond after a decade as scene partners. "It's like being in a relationship, I guess, isn't it? And a 10-year one at that," Heughan says. "I think over the years, we've learned a lot about each other, but also the characters. And living with these characters for 10 years has been such a joy; to age with them, to have their experiences.

‘Inside Outlander’ Aftershow: Caitriona Balfe Talks Filming Claire’s Shocking Premiere Moment (Video)
Image
“It’s always strange when you film these things where you have to put yourself at the precipice of death,” Outlander star Caitriona Balfe told us about shooting that shocking opening moment of the Season 7 premiere, in which her character, time-traveling doctor Claire Fraser appears to be hanged for murder. In the first episode of our weekly Outlander aftershow, Inside Outlander, the actress shares behind-the-scenes details of filming that scene and others in the romantic saga’s much-anticipated return, including the moment Claire reunites with her husband Jamie (Sam Heughan). “This couple, whenever they are torn apart, whenever they are separated, it’s like they lose a limb, and whenever they come back together again it’s like their full life force returns to them. They don’t function fully without each other,” Balfe tells us. She also hints about what’s next: “This season there’s an awful lot...

10 Best Side Characters in Outlander
Image
Starz's Outlander has proven to be a mostly accurate reflection of Diana Gabaldon’s books. Like the novels, the show's proceedings generally revolve around the couple of Jamie and Claire Fraser. But on occasion, other characters like their daughter Brianna, and her husband Roger have been given extended storylines that allow them to shine.

While Claire and Jamie have been fan favorites, a number of minor Outlander characters have also intrigued viewers because of their story arcs, memorable personalities, or themes they have represented. Whether they were good or evil, these individuals lit up every scene they were in. Their presence has added something to the TV show to make it even better.

“0utlander” on Starz
"Outlander" Season Six, adapting the supernatural, historical romance novel "A Breath of Snow and Ashes" by Diana Gabaldon, stars Caitriona Balfe as 'Claire Fraser' and Sam Heughan as 'Jamie Fraser', premiering March 6, 2022 on Starz:

"...in Season Six, 'Claire' (Balfe) and 'Jamie' (Heughan) fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America. But establishing a home in the 'New World' is by no easy task, particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina — and perhaps most significantly — during a period of dramatic political upheaval.
