Outlander has managed to make a deep mark on the hearts of fans and the audience. Its massive success has also led to several seasons of the historical drama, which is based on the book series of the same name. The seventh season wrapped up in January this year, and an eighth season is already expected to be released, even though an official date is unknown.

Meanwhile, a prequel to the franchise is well on the way. The show Outlander: Blood Of My Blood has been quite an anticipated release since it was first announced. The first look of the series is out, and here’s what we know about the upcoming edition, including what to expect and cast details.

Sometime soon — maybe by the end of the year, maybe early in 2025 — Starz will air the eighth and final season of Outlander, bringing an end to the beloved time-traveling romance series. Outlander has been going strong for a long time, and fans will no doubt find it hard to say goodbye. Sam Heughan, who plays 18th century heartthrob Jamie Fraser, is pouring gasoline on the fire by posting a video where he walks out of his final-ever Adr session for the show.

Adr stands for Automated Dialogue Replacement, where actors rerecord select lines to be dubbed over in the final version. This is the last-ever thing he will do on Outlander, and he's emotional about it:

Claire Fraser is miraculously visited by Master Raymond in Outlander Season 7, as he appears asking for forgiveness. 

The hit historical romance recently rounded out its seventh season, continuing the ever-more-dramatic romantic throes of Claire and her highland lover Jamie. 

As a part of this Season 7 finale, Claire finally overcame the bullet wounds she had sustained during one of the show's Revolutionary War battles but had a few interesting twists introduced because of it.

The Paley Center for Media announced on Monday the full lineup for its 2024 festival, which will include a celebration of the Outlander TV series’ 10-year anniversary, Somebody Somewhere (Season 3 is due out on HBO/Max this year) and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol (premiering Sept. 29 on AMC/AMC+). The fest will take place Oct. 16-22 at The Paley Museum in Midtown Manhattan.

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe braved the rainy weather as they arrived on set to film scenes for the upcoming eighth and final season of their Starz series on Monday (August 19) in Eglington, Scotland.

For their time on set, Sam, 44, was seen sporting his character Jamie Fraser’s signature, long blonde hair while Caitriona, also 44, wore a graying wig as she got in character as Claire Fraser.

The video shows Caitriona and Sam sharing about new sets, new crews, and new cast members for next season, as well as some familiar faces, stating that Jamie’s adopted son, Fergus, and his wife Marsali (Jamie’s stepdaughter) are making a comeback.

There is nearly no topic that Jamie and Claire Fraser can’t make romantic, as evidenced by this exclusive sneak peek from Friday’s Outlander (Starz, 8/7c).

Although they look as snuggly and in love as ever — and they are! — the subject at hand isn’t the sexiest: The Frasers are musing about how they’ll handle arrangements in the event that one of them dies before the other. Hot!

Starz’s Outlander season seven episode two ended with the big house going up in flames. The teaser for episode three, “Death Be Not Proud,” shows the Frasers are alive and well, but someone in their community has died.

The promo video also provides a brief look at Brianna and Roger in their own time and reveals that Jamie has had another dream of Claire in the 20th century.

Season seven episode three was directed by Jacquie Gould from a script by Tyler English-Beckwith. “Death Be Not Proud” will air on June 30, 2023.

"Outlander" has reached the beginning of the end. The show's seventh season premiered on June 16, meaning that fans now have less than two full seasons left until the Fraser family's story comes to a conclusion.

Starz initially announced the news that the show was ending on Jan. 19, 2023, confirming that the series's eighth season would be its last. "What an incredible journey with an incredible fanbase," the network tweeted. "'Outlander' has officially been renewed for an eighth and final season."

At the time, Starz also tweeted a video compilation featuring some of the show's stars, who thanked viewers for their support and devotion over the years. Jamie and Claire Fraser have been through a lot. War, child loss, allegations of witchcraft, and, well, the time travel of it all. That's nothing, though, compared to the daily battle their portrayers face just working alongside each other on "Outlander." "It's got worse, hasn't it? Starz's Outlander has proven to be a mostly accurate reflection of Diana Gabaldon’s books. Like the novels, the show's proceedings generally revolve around the couple of Jamie and Claire Fraser. But on occasion, other characters like their daughter Brianna, and her husband Roger have been given extended storylines that allow them to shine.

The premium cabler announced the return of several fan-favorite cast members today, in addition to five new cast members joining the popular time-traveling series for its upcoming seventh season, which is filming now in Scotland.

Loyal fans will recognize Graham McTavish reprising his role as Dougal MacKenzie, Jamie’s uncle whom he killed just before the battle of Culloden.

Nell Hudson (Victoria) returns as Laoghaire Fraser, Jamie’s ex-wife and Marsali’s mother, in addition to Steven Cree as Old Ian Murray, Young Ian’s father and Jamie’s brother-in-law.

Andrew Whipp (Shetland) is back as Brian Fraser, Jamie’s father.

Layla Burns (She Will) as Joan MacKimmie, Marsali’s sister and Jamie’s stepdaughter, and Lotte Verbeek (The Fault in Our Stars) as Geillis Duncan, Claire’s former friend-turned-enemy and a fellow time traveler from the 1960s.

While Outlander may be best known for its romance between Jamie and Claire Fraser, there are a variety of other kinds of relationships that are explored. The show also delves into family dynamics, of both the found family and biological nature. Friendships can also take center stage.
