The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed the coveted pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a Japanese free agent and three-time winner of Japan’s version of the Cy Young Award.
Yamamoto, just 25-years-old, was considered the prize pitcher of this winter’s free-agent market, with every big market team in pursuit. The Dodgers won with a reported 12-year deal worth $325 million, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The contract surpasses the total value of the New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole’s record $324 million, but is three years longer.
The Yamamoto deal contains no deferrals, per reports.
Yamamoto has until Jan. 4 to finalize his deal under terms of his posting.
The signing is the second significant move by the Dodgers in the off-season. They signed designated hitter and reigning Mvp Shohei Ohtani to a blockbuster $700 million deal earlier, meaning they have committed a billion dollars to just two players, albeit over many years. Ohtani...

The MLB season is officially in full swing. One New York Yankee is making moves on the field and in the real estate game. Aaron Judge, the Yankees slugger who reignited national interest in baseball with his historic home run record run last season, is officially setting down roots, and he’s doing it in New York City. According to reports, Aaron Judge snagged an exclusive Manhattan apartment with breathtaking river views.
Aaron Judge Purchases Manhattan penthouse
Aaron Judge committed to the New York Yankees and is now committing to Manhattan. According to the New York Post, Judge just laid out a ton of cash to live in The Cortland, an ultra-luxury residence in Chelsea. While there is no official word on how much Judge paid for his slice of New York City, an insider told the publication that a private buyer recently claimed two units on the building’s 22nd floor.

In yet another bad sign that the pandemic is far from over, tonight’s New York Yankees game against the Boston Red Sox was postponed by a Covid-19 outbreak.
While getting ready for the first game after the midsummer All-Star break, the Yankees saw positive tests for pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes, Jr. and Wandy Peralta derail those plans.
All-Star rightfielder Aaron Judge, catcher Kyle Higashioka, and third baseman Gio Urshela were sidelined by being placed in the Covid-19 protocols after close contact.
Tests for three other players are still pending, according to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. He indicated he expects those to turn out positive.
For their part, the Red Sox have asked their All-Stars who were in Denver to undergo additional testing today after being told of Judge’s case. He was joined at the game by fellow Yankees Gerrit Cole and Aroldis Chapman.
“It’s a fluid situation that could spread.

The rich got richer today, as the Los Angeles Dodgers signed the biggest free agent of the winter, bringing home reigning Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer.
Born in Santa Clarita, Calif., Bauer grew up in North Hollywood and pitched for UCLA before going pro. He reportedly rejected a larger offer from the New York Mets to join the defending World Series champion Dodgers.
Bauer agreed to a three-year, $102-million contact that includes opt-outs after 2021, during which he’ll earn $40 million, and 2022, when he can draw a $45-million salary. The average annual value of those two years tops previous record-holder Gerrit Cole, allegedly a rival to Bauer.
“This season is about adding to our legacy,” Bauer said, in a YouTube video he tweeted to his followers. “And I can’t wait, Dodger fans.”

The Washington Nationals got to Houston Astros ace Gerrit Cole on Tuesday, when Fox drew an average of 12.194 million total viewers, according to Nielsen. That overall audience number is the smallest for a World Series Game 1 in five years.
And it was almost the smallest all-time TV audience for a Fall Classic. Game 1 of the 2014 series still holds that unfortunate distinction with 12.191 million viewers.
Yes, that’s a difference of just 3,000 total television viewers between last night and five years ago, when the San Francisco Giants played the Kansas City Royals.

You cannot imagine how excited Washington, D.C., Nationals fans are about the team making it to the World Series for the first time since 1933, when the capital’s baseball team was called the Senators. Sadly, the Giants beat us then in five games.
The story of how the Nats won the 2019 National League pennant title has the makings of a heartwarming Hollywood movie. Imagine a baseball team that begins the season with a failing record only to come from behind and ace an exciting wild-card game, and battle on to beat the higher-ranked Dodgers and Cardinals.
The Nats consist of old and young players bonded over winning a pennant. The ace veteran, Ryan Zimmerman, age 35, had key hits during the playoffs. Rising star Juan Soto is only 20, and couldn’t legally drink booze during the locker-room celebrations. Soto turns 21 on October 25, so hopefully he will have something to celebrate.

2019 World Series Matchup Set: It’ll Be The Houston Astros Vs. Washington Nationals Starting Tuesday
The 2019 World Series will start on Tuesday at Minute Maid Park in Houston, thanks to last night’s walk-off home run by the Houston Astros star infielder Jose Altuve to lead his team to a 6-4 triumph over the New York Yankees.
First pitch for the World Series on Tuesday is at 8:08 Pm Et, with broadcasting on Fox, live streaming on Fox Sports Go and FoxSports.com
Houston had a tough series and beat the Yankees in six games, while Washington breezed past the St. Louis Cardinals, sweeping them. Both teams have outstanding starting pitching, making it likely that the Series will see some tight games.
The Houston Astros are sending Gerrit Cole to the mound for the opener, with the equally formidable Washington Nationals matching up with Max Scherzer.
Cole was scheduled to appear in a potential Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, but Altuve’s home run ended that need.
