Some breaking news from Westeros: The Game of Thrones prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has added a major talent from Black Mirror to serve as its debut season’s lead director, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Owen Harris has boarded the HBO drama as an executive producer and will also direct the first three episodes, establishing the directorial vision for the series. Harris is best known for helming two of Black Mirror‘s finest episodes — “Be Right Back” and the widely acclaimed “San Junipero.”
In addition, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ episode count has now been revealed: The first season will be six episodes, making for a tighter opener than the 10-episode first seasons of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. The run time seems appropriate given Knight is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s 160-page novella The Hedge Knight rather than one of his 900-page epic novels.

With first successful Game Of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon roaring back to our screens for a second season this June, there is some forward movement on another Westeros-set series. Boasting the slightly unwieldy title (for now) of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the series adapted from George Rr Martin's Dunk & Egg stories has found, well, its Dunk and Egg. Wreck's Peter Claffey will play Ser Duncan the Tall, while Dexter Sol Ansell, most recently seen in the Hunger Games prequel The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes, is on board as his diminutive squire.
With Ira Parker overseeing the series alongside Martin, the Dunk & Egg stories are set between House Of The Dragon and the main Thrones time period. They focus a young, naïve but courageous knight called Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire. The friends travel Westeros in a time when dragons...

HBO’s Game of Thrones universe is expanding once again. Following the success of ‘House of the Dragon,’ a new spinoff titled ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ is gearing up to start filming in 2024. This news comes straight from HBO’s Casey Bloys. While it was initially expected to begin production earlier, the team is still working on casting and writing.
The new series dives into George R. R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg‘, set about a century before the events of Game of Thrones. It will explore the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. The show plans to adapt the three novellas: ‘The Hedge Knight’, ‘The Sworn Sword’, and ‘The Mystery Knight’. HBO’s Francesca Orsi mentioned that the show’s lack of dragons means quicker production, thanks to fewer visual effects.

HBO formally announced a new “Game of Thrones” spin-off series last week as part of the unveiling of the new streaming service Max, and while the new show adapts one of George R.R. Martin’s most beloved Westeros stories, its title leaves out the names of the two main characters. As it turns out, there’s a good reason for that.
The working title for the new show is “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” but it’s based on a collection of tales known as “Dunk & Egg.” Writing on his blog, Martin explained why “Dunk & Egg” was not seriously considered as a title for the new show.
“The working title will be ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.’ Whether that will be the final title, I can’t say for sure… beyond saying that no, it won’t be called ‘Tales of Dunk & Egg...

Last week brought a slew of news as Warner Bros confirmed plans to turn HBO Max into, simply, Max – announcing a whole raft of new projects’s writings on the fantasy world. Now, Martin has updated on the project in a blog post, getting into what the approach for the series will be.
Writing online, Martin confirmed that the first season of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms will focus solely on ‘The Hedge Knight’ novella, likely consisting of six episodes – and that future seasons would look to adapt fellow ‘Dunk & Egg’ stories ‘The Sworn Sword’ and ‘The Mystery Knight’. All three of those individually-published stories have been collected in a book titled A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms. “The pilot script is already written, and I think it’s terrific,” writes Martin. “It was written by Ira Parker, who is no stranger to Westeros. George Rr Martin has revealed fresh details about his newly announced Game of Thrones prequel series.
The American author, who is behind the fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire, which was turned into the hit HBO series about feuding noble families, wrote in a blog post that the new adaptation will be based on his novella The Hedge Knight.
The book is about the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, in a period where the Iron Throne is still under Targaryen rule before the events of the original series.
Egg, brother of Aemon Targaryen who became a Maester to the Night’s Watch at Castle Black and appeared in Game of Thrones, would later grow up to become Aegon V.
He is also the grandfather of Aerys II, often referred to as the “Mad King”, who was the ruler of Westeros before King Robert Baratheon.

Long rumoured as in development, there has been a major update for Game Of Thrones spin-off series now known as A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. The show has scored an official order from HBO.
Adapting George Rr Martin's "Dunk and Egg" novellas, the new series is set a century before the events of the original series and promises to be more of a two-hander character piece than the sprawling likes of Thrones or first spin-off House Of The Dragon. Two unlikely heroes wander Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg (the future king Aegon V Targaryen). Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

The Game of Thrones empire is expanding once again: The network’s streaming service — now called Max — has officially ordered to series a new prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
The title is based on George R.R. Martin’s popular trio of Dunk and Egg novellas, which chronicle the story of “Dunk” (the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall) and “Egg” (the future king Aegon V Targaryen) as they wander Westeros having adventures roughly 100 years before the events of the novels. The project is the second prequel to officially get ordered to series, following House of the Dragon.

This article contains Major Spoilers for House of the Dragon and Fire & Blood. Seriously, seasons ahead stuff!
“The gods have a dark wit.” So muses Paddy Considine’s King Viserys I Targaryen in last night’s sordid and steamy episode of House of the Dragon. The aging king utters this while reflecting on the irony of his strong, handsome, and noble father dying from a “burst belly” after a hunt. No sword, no dragon, and no glory. It was a cruel twist of fate.
But Viserys could just as well be referring to the narrative fates being spun in House of the Dragon’s writers room. They, after all, control the destinies of every player on this stage. And in tonight’s episode, which was written by Ira Parker and directed by Clare Kliner, those storytellers provided the bleakest of in-jokes for those who know what the God of Death—aka George R.
