Before calling on forever with the supermodel, the singer was in a long-term, on-again, off-again relationship with Selena Gomez. Jelena, a hybrid name for Justin and Selena, was the embodiment of teen-age dreams, and no one thought they would “never, ever, ever be apart.” Their mutual fans are still not over the breakup, despite the A-listers beginning a new life separately. Leading up to the Grammy nominations on Nov. 10, Rolling Stone is breaking down 16 different categories. For each, we’re predicting the nominees, as well as who will (and who should) win on Grammy night.
If the biggest song of the year (Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night”) has a chance in any of the major all-genre categories, it would be here — Soty technically honors the song’s four co-writers and not him. Ultimately, though, Wallen’s stumbles could rule out a win, or even a nomination. (“It takes me a while...

ESPN host Stephen A. Smith has a reputation for shooting from the hip with outrageous takes on sports issues. Today, he turned the attention on himself, candidly admitting his role in having First Take co-host Max Kellerman removed from the show.
First Take is one of the highest-rated ESPN shows, although its audience has dwindled since Skip Bayless left for Fox in 2016. Editor’s note: Last week, John Boyega and others expressed outrage over an exchange from the fifth episode of Season 2 in Spike Lee’s Netflix series, “She’s Gotta Have It.” The scene finds Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise) and her black British lover Olu (Michael Luwoye) debating the impact of black British actors in Hollywood. The conversation eventually expands to the British involvement in the transatlantic slave trade and other major historical issues. Many viewers have taken particular issue with Nola describing black British actors as “cheap” and essentially ignorant of their own history, suffering from “Stockholm Syndrome.” Boyega saw a viral clip of the scene circulating online and simply labelled it “Trash.”
Boyega’s tweet was picked up by numerous media outlets. In response, the episode’s writer, Barry Michael Cooper, wrote a letter to Boyega, which he has provided to IndieWire below.

Weeks after announcing a joint summer tour, Mary J. Blige and Nas teamed for a new collaborative single, “Thriving.”
With its melismatic vocal hooks, the track showcases Blige’s soulful voice throughout as she reflects on overcoming challenges. “Look what I did — I made history/They don’t know what to do with me,” she sings over a sampled guitar stab and pulsating kick drum. “Ain’t looking back — keepin’ it movin’/I know exactly how to do this.”
Nas appears halfway through with a brief verse, name-dropping Muhammad Ali and squashing negative energy.

When it comes to Nicki Minaj's drama with Cardi B, Meek Mill isn't picking sides. The "Ima Boss" star opened up to Ebro Darden about featuring Kulture's mama on his new album, and leaving out his ex, in a new Beats 1 for Apple Music interview released Thursday. Meek Mill and Cardi B collaborated for the track "On Me," which is featured on his new album Championships. The "Bodak Yellow" artist was one of several stars included on the album. Others included Drake, Future, Jay Z and Rick Ross. However, it looks like Meek Mill didn't team up with Nicki. When asked if he was still cool with his former flame, the recording artist said "she good" but called...

Cardi B and Offset aren't sharing photos of their baby girl with the world right now. The "I Like It" rapper and the Migos star welcomed their first child, a daughter named Kulture Kiari Cephus, back in July. Since that time, the couple has only shared glimpses of Kulture on social media, deciding instead to keep her out of the public eye after receiving numerous threats online. "I could show you screenshots of comments, and my phone number got leaked. I got so many disgusting text messages that I literally I had to hire a private investigator to find out who the f--k is these people threatening my child," Cardi told Ebro Darden on his Beats 1 show on Apple Music. "It's just really...

Cardi B's interest in Nicki Minaj seems to be waning. In a FaceTime interview with Ebro Darden on his Beats 1 show on Apple Music, the rapper was asked whether she could be in the same room as Minaj—without fighting—following their Fashion Week showdown. "I don't care," she said. "It's whatever the energy's like. I don't care." Earlier this week, Cardi B's song "Money" leaked—and she blamed Minaj's fans for spreading it. "This happens all the time, you know? When you give it to streaming services, it might go to a freakin' different country…and somebody from there leaked it. And, you know, people don't like you, so they're...

50 Cent is no stranger to a feud. This time around, the In Da Club rapper has been beefing with Ebro Darden. It all started on Monday morning when Ebro and his crew were discussing the recent Conor McGregor fight and whether either of the fighters would have a hard time finding work due to the possibility that something crazy might happen. Ebro made a good point about predictability and how those who present a challenge are often not invited to certain places. Then, the Hot 97 radio host went even further and used 50 Cent as an example, citing […]

Okurr! Cardi B certainly cleaned up at the MTV Video Music Awards last night, but it wasn't without a little shade-throwing. The 25-year-old mama — who gave birth to her daughter Kulture Kiari on July 10 — kicked the night off with what some felt was a jab at Nicki Minaj's new album, Queen. During her acceptance speech, she referred to herself as "the Empress." "I had the baby, I carried the baby, and I'm still winning awards!" Cardi said as she accepted her moon man. "All the love that my fans, that my friends, that everybody shows me is genuine, is beautiful, and that's something that God gives me, that you can't buy, b--ch." Ariana Grande became emotional discussing the Manchester bombing in 2017 during her Beats 1 Radio interview Friday with Ebro Darden. The pop singer appeared on the show to promote her new album, Sweetener, which was released earlier in the day.
After playing the final track on her album “Get Well Soon,” Darden gave the singer a chance to open up about the song and the aftermath of what happened in Manchester.
“Obviously [if you see it] on the news it affects you but not in the same way,” Grande says of tragedies. “You feel bad, you tweet it,...

She's over it! Nicki Minaj was asked about her rumored feud with Cardi B while chatting with Beats 1 Radio’s Ebro Darden on Aug. 16. The "Chun Li" rapper revealed she didn't know there was tension brewing between them, and if there is, Nicki is unaware. “Now, I didn’t know Cardi and I had an issue, but I guess we do since you’re saying it and other people are saying it," Nicki explained during her press run interview for her fourth studio album Queen. "To me, she may have taken an issue with things that I’ve said. But, I’m not going to bite my tongue. You gotta have thick skin, people talk s--t about me all the time. You can’t be expect to be liked and loved and praised all the f-----g time. Give me a break.” #Queen 9Ampst/12Est A post shared by Barbie® (@nickiminaj...

A year after the terrorist bombing at her concert in Manchester, Ariana Grande is paying tribute to the 22 victims of the attack on her new album, “Sweetener.”
The final song, “Get Well Soon,” includes 40 seconds of silence that makes the song’s duration exactly 5:22 in length — the date of the Manchester bombing in 2017.
In an interview with Ebro Darden for Beats 1, Grande discussed the importance of the song’s message to “help each other through scary times.” “There’s some dark s— out there, man, and we just have to be there for each other as much as we can,” she said.
She continued, “[But] it’s not just about that. It’s also about personal demons and anxiety and more intimate tragedies as well. Mental health is so important. People don’t pay enough mind to it because we have things to do, we have schedules, we have jobs,...

The tweets kept coming. On April 15, a year after Kanye West deleted his Twitter account, he returned with a vengeance. Over the next days and weeks, his posts grew increasingly bizarre. "The psychological zombie effect," read one. "I’m super chaaaaaarged. Bout to take this whole thing to mars," read another. After he called himself the "future president," bragged about having "dragon energy," and announced he’d fired his manager because "I can’t be managed," speculation spread across the Internet that the rapper, who spent eight days in a psych ward in 2016, was having another breakdown. Wife Kim Kardashian was swift to fight back, tweeting that the media is "so quick to label him as having mental health issues for just being himself when he has always been expressive." But Kanye’s problems are more serious than anyone knows, insiders say, and they’ve led to the disintegration of...

Don Lemon didn’t think much of Kanye West’s claim on TMZ yesterday that African slavery in America seemed like a “choice.” On his show Tuesday evening, the CNN anchor said the rapper was embarrassing himself and should read a book.
“He’s embarrassing himself because he doesn’t know history,” said Lemon “He needs to read.”
Lemon was joined on set by radio host and Kanye friend, Hot 97’s Ebro Darden. Darden was one of the first to report that the rapper had fully embraced Trump in the days before Kanye went full red pill.

“I think what we’re seeing right now is a sad case of someone who isn’t listening to people around him who are trying to tell him to just think first,” said Darden. “This is spiraling out of control.”
While Trump was fetishized by some rappers during his era as an over-the-top real estate developer, his stature in the community has fallen markedly after he became president — except for Kanye, who has stayed close with Trump and increasingly taken more conservative positions on Twitter.
On Tuesday, Kanye stunned interviewers at TMZ after he suggested slavery was a “choice.”

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years — for 400 years?! That sounds like a choice,” West said. “You was there for 400 years, and it’s all of y’all? It’s like we’re mentally in prison.”
For that, he was taken to task by TMZ reporter Van Lathan on set.
“There is fact and real world, real life consequence behind everything you just said,” said Lathan, who added that he was “appalled” and “disappointed” by the slavery stuff.

“I am unbelievably hurt by the fact that you have morphed into something, to me, that is not real,” he added
As outrage to his comments grew on Twitter, Kanye offered a clarification.
“The reason why I brought up the 400 years point is because we can’t be mentally imprisoned for another 400 years. We need free thought now. Even the statement was an example of free thought It was just an idea,” he said. “Once again I am being attacked for presenting new ideas.”

On Friday night, three hours after Kanye West dropped a nonsensical ditty on his website called “Lift Yourself” that, combined with weeks of unhinged pro-Trump tweeting, had many thinking he’d truly lost it, the Mc dropped an actual song at midnight E.T. — “Ye vs. the People,” a point-for-point debate about his recent behavior with his friend, veteran rapper T.I.
In it, West makes some of his most coherent, if still highly debatable and naive, arguments about his pro-Trump stance to date: “Make America Great Again had a negative reception/ I took it, wore it, rocked it, gave it a new direction… Y’all been leadin’ with hate, see I just approach it different/ Like a gang truce, the first Blood to shake the Crip’s hand.”
But to his credit, West allows T.I. plenty of room to make his case as well:
“What you willin’ to lose...

The latest episode of Kanye West’s twitter rampage — which has been ongoing since April 14 — continued unabated over four hours on Wednesday morning, during which he veered wildly between topics like his clothing line, his management and legal situation, his upcoming music, and, inevitably, Donald Trump.
West met with the president late in 2016 and has unsettled many fans with his pro-Trump and seeming right-wing tweets, although it’s unclear whether he’s serious or just trolling. He added more fuel to the fire with a series of tweets Wednesday:
“Free thinkers don’t fear retaliation for your thoughts. The traditional thinkers are only using thoughts and words but they are in a mental prison. You are free. You’ve already won. Feel energized. Move in love not fear. Be afraid of nothing. …
“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him.
