When thinking about the many, many species of sharks that exist some of the first ones to come to mind include the Great White, Hammerhead, Mako, Lemon and Reef sharks just to name a few. But, did you know that there are more that 350 different species of sharks that exist and even more are continuing to be discovered and studied.
In Forrest Galante’s Discovery Shark Week special “Alien Sharks: Strange New Worlds” the focus is on some of these lesser known shark species and spotlights many of their unusual and distinct chrematistics that set them apart from other species of sharks. “Alien Sharks: Strange New Worlds” is described, “The tip of South Africa is a hotspot for unusual sharks that exhibit bizarre behaviors and unusual, otherworldly appearances. Wildlife biologist Forrest Galante explores stunning kelp forests and ocean depths never-before-seen by humans to study these extraordinary creatures.”

It is everyone’s favorite time of year! Shark Week is finally here and Discovery has put together a spectacular line-up on shark-fueled specials that we can’t wait to sink our teeth into this summer!
We had the amazing opportunity to catch up with Marine Biologist Tom “Blowfish” Hird to discuss his two Discovery Shark Week specials, “Cocaine Sharks” and “Great White Fight Club”! It was a fascinating chat with Hird, as we dive into some of the story behind “Cocaine Sharks” where Hird and his team study shark behavior patterns in the Florida Keys. It is an area where researchers believe that the ocean may become contaminated with cocaine due to increased drug smuggling in the region. First, we have “Cocaine Bear” and now “Cocaine Sharks”….uh, oh! It is definitely a fascinating topic to discuss.

“My heart is in the ocean,” Momoa told The Associated Press from Tahiti, moments before taking a trip to swim with some of the apex predators. “Doing ‘Shark Week’ is a no brainer.”

The debut of Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries” reboot earlier this month has brought about a clamoring for cold cases to be brought to justice. In that spirit, we’ve compiled a list of TV shows that have actually solved crimes, exonerated people, and found answers to the unknown, from “The Jinx” miniseries that lead to the arrest of Robert Durst, to “Extinct or Alive,” which found a living animal thought to have died out over a hundred years ago.
“Unsolved Mysteries”
Back before the Netflix reboot, this classic series was on network television. Creator Terry Meurer told TheWrap that during its original 23-year run, the series helped to solve over 260 cold cases. She has high hopes that the Netflix reboot will have the same luck.
“Cold Justice”

It’s good to be alive, turtle says: “Extinct or Alive” on Animal Planet just found its first species that was previously believed to be extinct, is actually alive.
During filming this week, series host and biologist Forrest Galante found a female Fernandina Tortoise, presumed extinct since 1906, on a remote volcanic island in the Galapagos.
The discovery was made on Feb. 17 after two days of searching. On Wednesday, an Animal Planet spokeswoman told TheWrap the cable channel just “finished our verification process,” and that the find checks out.

Animal Planet has ordered a new series that asks whether animals thought to be extinct really are.

From eyewitness accounts to last known photographs, there is evidence that suggests some of these creatures are still very much alive in the wild.
