In exploring anime’s best exemplars - from cult classic films and TV series to seasonal smash hits - fans regularly come across impactful, alluring narratives that reassure them of their desire to continue expanding their horizons. It takes thoughtfulness to create a quirky female love interest in anime without falling into any annoying stereotypes. Their traits should be nuanced. There's a difference between a character who is very animated and goofy because they have niche interests and a fun sense of humor, and a character who is goofy for drama or fan service.
A well-written quirky girl or woman feels more like an eccentric individual than the tired "not like the other girls" trope. Eccentric love interests may have secret identities, or have a unique way of expressing creativity. Some have very granulated interests, like Maomao of The Apothecary Diaries, whose astute scientific mind leads her to enjoy ingesting poisons.

There are layered reasons behind why Lu Shouxue avoids everyone's company in Raven of the Inner Palace.

Shonen anime has many recognizable traits. Its stories focus on teamwork and friendship. There's plenty of action to keep the story going. They're fun-filled and have plenty of humor to keep young readers intersted. However, another common trait is that their usually male protagonists don't act their age.
These immature protagonists pick fights too easily, eat way more than their body weight, and are filled with boundless energy. Some pick their noses. Others throw a fit when they're told to do something they don't want to do. Though these shonen protagonists are beloved, they're also way too immature for their own good.

Haikyuu!!'s protagonist, Shoyo Hinata, is filled with a boundless energy that can get him into trouble from time to time. While this energy is useful while playing volleyball, he is over-energetic outside the game too.

Just as sports films have captured audiences' hearts, sports anime have risen from the ranks of TV shows or comic-inspired series to become cultural phenomenons. And looking at the most beloved and popular sports anime ever released, it isn't hard to see why.
The best sports anime series deliver compelling character histories, challenges, and victories. They also deliver on important themes like friendship, loss, family, and dedication. If all of that wasn't enough, the top ranks of sports anime have also captured enough acclaim and devotion to not only be recognized as the best of their subgenre, but be seen among the top anime of all time.

Haikyuu!! fans face an emotional serve in 2025. Two beloved films from the franchise, Haikyuu!! Movie 3: Genius and Sense and Haikyuu!! Movie 4: Battle of Concepts, were recently earmarked for a Dec. 31 removal from Netflix.
The departures, while bittersweet, might have one silver lining: the two films are both compilation entries, mostly just recapping moments from the anime’s third and fourth seasons, respectively. Genius and Sense streamlines Shoyo Hinata and company's battle against Shiratorizawa, while Battle of Concepts recaps Karasuno High’s key matchup against Inarizaki High. However, each film also features scenes not included in the Haikyuu series proper.

Kuudere characters in anime are some of the calmest, rarely showing emotions and instead remaining in a constant state of stoicism. While a tsundere character in anime might hide their true emotions, kuuderes aren't hiding anything they really are that calm. Kuudere characters aren't devoid of emotion, however. There are rare moments where a kuudere character will break, showing a brief flash of feeling. These moments are usually more fulfilling because of their stoicism, highlighting how important the situation must be if it made a kuudere care.
Kuuderes always make for some of the best side characters in anime. They're reliable, predictable, and are usually the last people to end up in a panic. They come in all shapes and sizes, showing that no matter who or where a character is, they too can be as cool as the other side of the pillow.

Black Clover's Asta is one of the freshest shnen protagonists to emerge since the end of the original Big Three. He's always putting his best foot forward and rarely has a frown on his face. He's easy to root for, works harder than anyone else in Black Clover, and is one of the strongest characters in the series. There are several other anime heroes that share these traits with him, making their series as easy-to-watch as Black Clover.
Asta's biggest characteristics are his unflinching dedication to his goals and his friends, his almost supernatural charm and enthusiasm, and, of course, his naive innocence. There are a range of anime heroes that share these traits with the Anti-Magic swordsman. Some characters share Asta's enthusiasm, but aren't as naive to the world around him. Others have just as charismatic, but may have a darker side to their personality than Asta.

Muneyuki Kaneshiro is best known for his popular sports manga, Blue Lock, but another one of his works also deserves an anime adaptation. We Did It is a manga that explores themes of regret and the consequences of one's actions, making it a contemplative tale that is perfect for the modern anime landscape. Although it has already received a live-action adaptation, We Did It is better suited to the anime medium.
Muneyuki Kaneshiro has reached new levels of renown thanks to his hugely popular sports manga series Blue Lock. However, the shonen sports manga is only one small aspect of Kaneshiro's catalog of greater works. In fact, the darker, more introspective tinge of Blue Lock that helps it stand out from other sports series is actually indicative of many of his earlier works. In particular, one such series is criminally underrated and would fit in perfectly with the modern anime environment.

Telecom Animation Film's Astro Note, which Crunchyroll will stream next year, takes audiences back to the boarding house comedies of the past, albeit with a sci-fi twist. The original anime comes with a bevy of talented creative staff, including the character designer for Carole & Tuesday, and, perhaps appropriately, the director of Gintama. As such, Astro Note seems to be a refreshing comedy set up.

Pride Month is celebrated for the entire month of June and what better way to commemorate all things queer than by diving into the most recent Boys Love anime titled Sasaki and Miyano, a series that depicts the queer experience from a new and refreshing angle. Following the lives of high school students Sasaki (Yusuke Shirai) and Miyano (Soma Saito) and their friends, the anime casts a light on the tricky path that adolescents tread towards identifying new feelings. But as much as the series focuses on the growing closeness between Sasaki and Miyano, the anime also emphasizes the importance of discovering yourself at your own pace. Yes, there are many traditional Boys Love tropes threaded throughout this series, including the slow-burning nature of Sasaki and Miyano’s relationship, who each fall into those classic Shojo stereotypes where one is more confident and outspoken, and the other is flustered and shy.

Anime reboots can sometimes be far-fetched ideas since a studio would rather make a new anime series based on a popular manga than produce a completely new version of an already poorly regarded one. If it were so simple, we could have a slew of much-needed reboots, such as Tokyo Ghoul and Rosario Vampire. The good news is that Rurouni Kenshin, a classic anime series that, despite a few shortcomings, emerged as one of the best anime shows, is getting a remake this year.
Even though the Rurouni Kenshin franchise has spanned an anime series with 94 episodes and a highly successful live-action movie series that ended in 2021 with Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter Part II - The Beginning, it is planning to deliver fans with another intriguing one with a rebooted version of the original.

In Kenji Kamiyama’s drama, a boy discovers that he can halt time when emotionally stirred and that terrorists are exploiting the same power
Kenji Kamiyama writes and directs this diverting anime fantasy-thriller, set in Tokyo. Suzushiro (voiced by Soma Saito) is a troubled boy who after a traumatic time at high school has arrived in Tokyo on a journalism scholarship; this is at an unspecified future time after some “great catastrophe”. (Perhaps most will think of Covid: I sense that is not what is being indicated.) He is supplementing his income by doing a glorified paper round, made more difficult because he has to collect subscription payments door-to-door.
During one of the inevitable bad-tempered arguments with a customer Suzushiro discovers his superpower: he can stop time, an ability triggered by his own intense anger or unhappiness, and which is accompanied by a sick, short-of-breath feeling. He walks among the...
