Milo Van Houten
- Composer
- Music Department
Milo was born in San Francisco but after an earthquake and the LA riots
found himself growing up in Santa Cruz, CA. Attending Mission Hill
Middle School, Milo received his first encounter with the world of
music when he became involved with musical theater, both at his school
and in the local youth theater program Kids on Broadway. When he
graduated to Santa Cruz High Milo only intensified in his interest of
music, buying a keyboard and teaching himself to play and compose music
with the aims of writing his own musical.
Milo's start in music stemmed from a freshman bet in high school with a girl who said he couldn't write a musical. That day, he bought a keyboard, and started to teach himself piano and write a musical when he was 15 years old. It was a long and arduous process but after 3 years Milo was standing onstage at the premiere of his first musical accepting a local award from the mayor. After producing his first original musical in high school, Milo went on to receive his Bachelors in performing arts and social justice from the University of San Francisco, producing another musical along with a new opera, Medusa, while finishing up his studies.
With 55 musical numbers, Medusa: the opera, has yet to be performed in whole but would go on to be performed in singular arias and parts concluding with an excerpt being performed in the spring of 2013, directed by Allie Korrie.
Upon graduation Milo was asked to be part of a local horror film being produced for film festivals which would go on to receive positive reviews throughout the bay area.; also crediting Milo with his first ImDb credit.
