Doctor Who kicked off its new season with a ship full of babies, a far-future cellphone data “plan,” and a literal booger monster. (Ewww.)
Last we saw the Fifteenth Doctor (Sex Education‘s Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Coronation Street‘s Millie Gibson), they battled goblins, endured a musical number courtesy of said creatures, and saved a child from temporal deletion. With the groundwork laid and a core dynamic established, “Space Babies” gets right to it: Aboard the Tardis, Ruby and the Doctor travel 150 million years into the past. They arrive without a hitch, at which point Ruby, all giggles and grins,...

Despite its title Boys from County Hell isn’t another backwoods hicksploitation film. It’s actually an Irish horror comedy that pits a road crew against the Emerald Isle’s own species of bloodsucker. Writer/director Chris Baugh (Bad Day for the Cut) has expanded the short he did with co-writer Brendan Mullin to feature-length, and the results definitely don’t suck.
Eugene (Jack Rowan; Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands) lives in Six Mile Hill, a rural Irish town where, according to legend, Bram Stoker got the inspiration for Dracula. Eugene and his buddies S.P. and William (Fra Fee; Monochrome) get a bit of amusement scaring tourists who’ve come to see the cairn that marks the grave of Abhartach the legendary bloodsucker who inspired Stoker.
But all is not well in Eugene’s life.

While all of the major studios mull over whether to release their big summer movies on streaming services due to theaters closing because of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s a perfect time for small, low-budget films to have their moment. Preferably in the horror genre. Which is why I give you, The Jack in the Box.
We recently got a trailer for Abominable, which is about a group of poor folks who get picked off one by one by a crazed yeti. And before that there was Uncaged, about a killer lion. But now we come to The Jack in the Box, not to be confused with the popular fast food chain.
The movie follows a group of people who discover an old Jack in the Box toy. After its donation to a museum, an employee named Casey begins to believe that the toy is responsible for the deaths of his fellow co-workers.

"Jack in the boxes were originally built in France to contain evil entities." 4Digital Media has unveiled an official trailer for a crazy low budget horror film titled The Jack in the Box, a new clown horror film from Welsh director Lawrence Fowler. We all know these freaky little jack in the box toys, so why not make one of them come alive. What an original horror concept, right? When a vintage Jack-in-the-box is unearthed and opened, its new owners soon have reason to believe the creepy clown doll hiding within has a life of its own. Starring Ethan Taylor, Robert Nairne, Lucy-Jane Quinlan, Philip Ridout, and Darrie Gardner. Described as "a heart stopping horror that will fuel your fear of clowns," if the two It movies didn't already do that for you. This seems like one of those bargain bin horror movies you'll probably never watch anyway. Here's the...

The Jack in the Box is a United Kingdom shot feature. Already released in this territory, the film is prepping for a U.S. release on DVD. In the story, a museum receives an ancient artifact. But, when the crank is turned, something emerges from within. From director Lawrence Fowler (Curse of the Witch's Doll), The Jack in the Box stars: Ethan Taylor (Blood and Bone), Robert Nairne (In the Trap) and Lucy-Jane Quinlan. The Jack in the Box is expected to release this May. A few early reviews have filtered out of the United Kingdom. Phil Wheat at Nerdly mentions the creepiness of the antagonist: "in doll form [it] is creepy enough to scare anyone but who comes alive in a more grotesque, terrifying manner when finding victims." It grows in power - the more it kills. Dante at 10th Circle also mentions how the villain stands out: "the clown that is really a demon.

Written by Stefan Kaday and directed by Chloe Wicks, Cubicle is an under-four-minute long short horror film, much shorter than many of the short films I’m used to, yet it manages to be incredibly effective and wonderfully stylish in that minimal amount of time. Woah.
We find a woman sitting in a toilet stall, about to take a pregnancy test, when a couple stagger into the stall beside her. She soon hears moaning sounds, like the couple are engaging in some nookie. Maybe, though… just maybe, there isn’t any *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* going on in that stall at all, maybe there’s something more sinister afoot.
There’s very little going on here to write about, really, in the sense that the time we spend with actress Charlotte Hamblin is so slight, yet she...

When a museum is donated a vintage Jack-In-The-Box, it s not long before staff member Casey starts to think that the creepy clown doll inside has a life of its own. As he discovers his colleagues are dying, one by one, Casey realises it’s up to him to find a way to end the nightmare or become another victim of the box’s curse…
Clowns. Bloody terrifying if done right. And in horror movies clowns are usually, no matter, the budget, creepy bastards you want to get away from as soon as possible. But what about a Jack-in-the-Box? Technically a clown yes, but hampered by – you know – being attached to a box. Though that didn’t stop the creepy jack-in-the-box from Demonic Toys did it?...

[Note: With the film now out on DVD, here's a reposting of our review of The Secret of Marrowbone from its cinematic release back in August]
Three brothers and a sister have just lost their mother. After her death they fear to be separated, so to protect themselves and prevent this from happening they decide to flee to an abandoned farm, a place that is not what it seems, because it hides a dark secret between its walls.
Sergio G. Sanchez’s The Secret of Marrowbone comprises a fusion of Alejandro Amenabar’s The Others and Alfred Hitchcock’s famed masterpiece Psycho, not necessarily in the context of plot points but clearly influenced the formation of a deeply expressive style of subtlety. While not a complex piece of intricacy in the realm of the horror genre, it has its moments of slight terror and peril,...
