The 37th edition of the Montpellier Open, commonly known as Open Sud de France, will be played immediately after the conclusion of the first Grand Slam of 2024.
This Atp 250 tournament will run from January 29th to February 4th, consisting of a 28-player singles draw. The event will be played exclusively at Sud de France Arena, which is an indoor setting in the Montpellier suburb of Perols that houses almost 7,500 fans.
Some of the most iconic names in men's tennis have won this tournament in the past, including Yannick Noah, Pete Sampras, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and Andy Roddick - all of whom have won a Grand Slam.
The tournament organizers have done their best to bring a pool of richly talented players despite the limiting factor around a very constrained schedule in which most top players will have been competing in the final stages of the 2024 Australian Open.

The 2023 tennis season is in the rearview mirror, and tennis fans are already looking ahead to the new season that is set to kick off in less than a month.
Some of the intriguing talking points include the return to full fitness of Rafael Nadal, the record-chasing Novak Djokovic gunning for the Golden Slam, and the Atp's exciting young trio of Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, and Jannik Sinner possibly causing a regime change at the top.
While those stories take center stage, we cannot completely rule out the potential breakthroughs by youngsters. There are six teenagers in the world's Top 200, and in this article, we shall single out who among them is destined to enjoy a breakthrough in 2024, either making inroads on the Atp Rankings or winning a big title.

There are many ways by which tennis players release emotions on a tennis court, but the most detestable is probably breaking a racket.
To support this point, you only need to listen to the crowd and how badly received this action is. A chorus of boos swiftly follows, and the chair umpire would issue a code violation for racket abuse. For club players, breaking a tennis racket places a financial burden on them as they need to purchase a new one.
The Atp states in its 2022 rulebook that professional players would be subjected to a fine of up to $500 for each violation of racket and equipment abuse. Australia's Nick Kyrgios is a name that stands out when discussions about racket smashing are thrown up.
Recently, Kyrgios shared his opinion about the topic on air while serving as a temporary analyst for Tennis Channel's coverage of the Atp Finals. Tempers can boil over in tennis matches,...

Carlos Alcaraz and Paula Badosa have been confirmed as the first pair at the 2024 Hopman Cup, which will be played at the Nice Lawn Tennis Club in France.
Dates for the 2024 edition have not been confirmed, but it will likely fill up the tennis calendar in the subsequent week after Wimbledon, which was the case in 2023 when the tournament reserved its spot after a three-year absence.
Traditionally held in the build-up to the Australian Open and on outdoor hard courts in Perth since 1989, the Hopman Cup was removed from the calendar after the 2019 season to be replaced by the now-defunct Atp Cup.
But it was back in 2023 after striking a five-year deal with the Itf in which the mixed-gender event was played on the clay courts in Nice, in a six-team format. That will be the case in 2024 before reverting to eight teams from 2025.

After Emma Raducanu pulled out of the Macau Tennis Masters exhibition, Taylor Fritz and Daria Kasatkina are set to headline it.
Emma Raducanu was supposed to officially make her tennis comeback on Chinese soil at the Macau exhibition but withdrew from the tournament because she wasn't yet in playing condition.
Her comeback will likely happen about a month later at the Australian Open, which means that the event will run without the British player, but still, the field will be very competitive.
The headliners of the tournament are mainly Taylor Fritz and Daria Kasatkaina, who are the biggest names that will play at the event. It will run early in the exhibition calendar from December 2nd to the 3rd, with the full lineup also known.
Besides Kastkina and Fritz, we'll also see Borna Coric, Tallon Griekspoor, and native players Zhizhen Zhang and Xinyu Wang. It's literally going to start just...

There is another twist in Emma Raducanu's comeback plans and it is bad news for those patiently waiting for her much-anticipated return to tennis.
Raducanu, who hasn't played a competitive match since mid-April, was gearing up for her first match of preseason at the Macau exhibition in her mother's homeland in China at the start of December.
But she has now suffered a fresh setback in her preparations and made the decision to withdraw from the event on the day she was celebrating her 21st birthday. This new development is likely to affect Raducanu's return in 2024.

Vondorusova, the eighth seed, lost to Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina in the most shocking result of the first round thus far at the last Wta 1000 on the calendar. The Czech lefty had taken the first set 6-1 and seemingly cruising.

The Atp Tour will make its one and only stop in Belgium for the eighth edition of the European Open in Antwerp.
It will be held in the port city of Antwerp from October 16th to 22nd, with 250 rankings points on offer. 28 singles players will compete for a fair share of the prize money purse €673,630 - the highest in the tournament's history.
The tournament will welcome a star-studded lineup for the 2023 edition, each with additional objectives outside of winning the title. The likes of Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas have an excellent opportunity to enhance their chances of qualifying for the Atp Finals .
Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov , famed for his indoor prowess, has not won an Atp title since 2017. So he'll be watchful of any slip-ups from the top two seeds. Jan-Lennard Struff has put together the season of his life, and he'll be in the hunt for his first Atp title.

The 2023 European Open will take place from October 16th to 22nd in Antwerp, Belgium and this year's entry list has been released.
It will be another seven-day spectacle of indoor hard-court tennis in Belgium's only Atp Tour event. With its great track record of welcoming the best players in the world, the tournament organizers took on the mantle to bring two of the world's Top 10 in this year's 28-man singles field.

Frances Tiafoe is very motivated ahead of the 2023 Davis Cup in the beautiful seaside town of Split, Croatia.
Visiting Split is never a bad idea, but for Tiafoe, it will be all business as he looks to power his nation past the Croatian side in a bid for the knockout stages of the Davis Cup Final. The USA has a strong team, but they must book their place first.
The European nation is hosting its group in Split, hoping to make it through. It will be tough without top player Marin Cilic, who has been injured pretty much all yea r, and Borna Coric, who withdrew his participation. Tiafoe is well aware of the history that the US has in the competition, describing it as an honour to play for his country.

Austria's Davis Cup preparations suffered a significant blow with the news that Dominic Thiem hasn't recovered from a stomach inflammation.
Consequently, Thiem has withdrawn from the upcoming World Group tie against Portugal scheduled to take place between September 15th and 16th on the indoor hard courts of Multiversum Schwechat in Austria.
The 30-year-old retired from his second-round match against Ben Shelton at the US Open after just one set due to a stomach-related issue. He told doctors that he threw up prior to that match and almost did so again during a bathroom break.
Thiem confirmed that he would undergo some tests when he goes back to Austria. It appears the issue needs more treatment time and the word is that he will now miss the tie against Portugal and is a major doubt to play the Challenger 125 event in Bad Waltersdorf in his home country next week.

The 2023 Astana Open will run from September 27th to October 3rd in its fourth edition on the Atp calendar.
The 2023 Astana Open will be downgraded from a 500-level to a 250-level since it only operated on a year license for the higher category last year. It will be held on indoor hard courts at the National Tennis Centre in Kazakhstan's capital city, Astana.
This year, the singles playing field has been truncated to 28 players down from 32 last year , as is the prize money which has been sliced by half. The 2023 Astana Open will commit a prize money purse of $1,017,850 in its fourth edition.
There is a massive disparity in the playing field in comparison to last year where as many as five top-10 players entered the event which was won by Serbia's Novak Djokovic . The new World No. 1 will not return to defend his title, prioritizing to play at the Masters 1000 in Shanghai.

This year the Astana Open has been whittled down to a 28-player singles draw and while the entry list doesn't quite stack up to last year's field in terms of star power, there are plenty of interesting names who will feature during the tournament which will act as a precursor to a busier end to the season in October.
Novak Djokovic will not return to defend his crown , so the top seed this year will be Croatia's Borna Coric , who is still seeking his first Atp title of the season.

The latest Atp Rankings at the very top didn't record any movement, so Carlos Alcaraz maintained a gap of 20 points over Novak Djokovic for the World No. 1 spot.

Sebastian Korda withdrew from the 2023 Winston-Salem Open , shortly after his quarterfinal win over Richard Gasquet .
Playing an Atp 250 tournament shortly before a Grand Slam starts is always tricky, and the young American knows it. However, he didn't have many hard-court wins behind his belt, and that's why it was good for him to take part, and build some confidence by winning matches .
At the 2023 US Open, Korda will be certainly one of the dark horses , and that's also probably why he has made the decision to withdraw from the 2023 Winston-Salem Open, despite winning his quarterfinal match.
During the gripping third set in his 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(7) win over Gasquet, Korda sustained an ankle injury that would lead to his withdrawal from the Winston-Salem Open. The decision didn't come easy, especially given the momentum he had garnered in North Carolina.
"Tough decision to pull out. The ankle wasn't getting any better.

However, he fell just short in his quest to reclaim the No. 1 ranking by a meager 20 points.
Alcaraz did the bare minimum he was required to by virtue of reaching the Cincinnati final . The Spanish young gun was guaranteed to hold onto top spot for the next three weeks including the 2023 US Open where he will be the top seed with 9,815 points.
Djokovic is 20 points behind in second place with 9,795 garnering a maximum of 1,000 ranking points for winning a record-extending 39th Masters title. It's quite...

Carlos Alcaraz was well aware of the difficulty that was waiting for him in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters , but he ultimately managed to beat Hubert Hurkacz .
The Polish player has been sensational this week , and you don't need to dig deep to understand why. For starters, he's been one of the worst players this year in terms of breaking the serve of other players. Most of his sets were won tiebreaks, but that's not been the case since touching down in North America.
The Polish player has been breaking players comfortably in Toronto last week, especially in Cincinnati this week. He ousted both finalists from last year (Borna Coric and Stefanos Tsitsipas), and he didn't have huge problems with the number one player in the first set either.
The opening set saw him jump out to an early lead immediately after breaking Alcaraz in the Spaniard's first service game.

The 2023 Winston-Salem Open is a very unique Atp 250 tournament, and the draw just reflects the uniqueness of the competition.
It's not every day that players can compete in a 48-player draw at an Atp 250 tournament, but the Winston-Salem Open, which is the last tournament before the 2023 US Open , makes it possible as players fine-tune their form.
One of those players is the top seed Borna Coric . The Croatian won the Cincinnati Masters last year, but he lost early this year, and he will drop out of the Top 20 in the Atp Rankings as a result of not defending the title.
Coric hasn't been enjoying the best period, as he also deleted his Instagram account to probably avoid negative comments , but he will get a chance to get back on track in Winston-Salem. As the top 16 seeded players have a bye, he's also one of them, starting against either a qualifier...

Iga Swiatek began her post-match press conference by addressing fans' criticism in the wake of losing a set to Qinwen Zheng in the Round of 16 of the Cincinnati Masters .
Social media hate is becoming rampant in tennis, and the players have always been the victims of hurtful insults and negative criticism for their performances. While efforts are being made to promote positive online behavior, Swiatek told internet users to be mindful and thoughtful of what they write on the internet.
Just a week ago, Croatia's Borna Coric was forced to temporarily deactivate his Instagram account after receiving a barrage of attacks on the Internet after losing in the first round of the Canadian Open. In Swiatek's case, dropping the first set to Qinwen Zheng in Cincinnati attracted just as much hate and criticism.
"The amount of hate and criticism that me and my team get after even losing a set is just ridiculous.

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a highlight relatively recently, but now he's facing a lowlight following another lacklustre showing.
Stefanos Tsitsipas had a chance to become world number one at last year's US Open, and while it was a stretch, he still had the opportunity. He won't have the same chance this year because his performances haven't been as great as last year.
For example, he played in the Cincinnati Masters final last year, and while it was a losing effort against Borna Coric, he still earned plenty of points. He won't contest the final this year, having been beaten by Hubert Hurkacz comfortably at the Atp 1000 event, which ensured a lowlight for him.
He just had a highlight by winning the trophy at the Los Cabos Open but now faces a 'big' drop in the Atp Rankings. With the loss, Tsitsipas is set to drop down to number 7. He will lose...

Stefanos Tsitsipas faced a pretty big obstacle in rising star Ben Shelton at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters , but he navigated the match really well to win in two sets.
The Greek player played in the final at the Atp 1000 event in Cincinnati last year, and this match looked very much how he played last year. It was heavily dominated by his serve, which was a significant weapon pushing him to the final last year, but he ran into a better server that week in Borna Coric.
Shelton was always going to be a tough matchup for the Greek because he has a pretty powerful serve of his own. As predicted in our preview , it was a very close match but certainly a better one for Tsitsipas compared to last week's early exit against Gael Monfils .
The first set finished in a tiebreak as neither player gave an inch in the first twelve games of the match.

Alexander Zverev has had a very strange journey at the Cincinnati Masters , losing all of his main draw matches until 2021 when he won the event.
Tennis is a very interesting sport with a long history and plenty of matches every year. Due to that combination, we've seen some pretty crazy things happen. We have impossible stat lines, a bunch of odd things that shouldn't have happened, and then we have Alexander Zverev's Cincinnati Masters journey.
So what's so special about it? Well, he's played as part of the Atp main draw seven times so far but didn't win a match in his first six attempts. The first one happened in 2015, and the last one in 2021. It was only that year that he actually won a main draw match at the event and it gave him so much confidence that he went all the way.
Now you might not bat an eye on that; however,...

The 2023 Cincinnati Masters , held from August 13th to 20th, is here, and so is the draw for the Atp 1000 tournament.
After the Atp Masters 1000 event held in Canada, players traditionally move to Cincinnati to complete the doubleheader. The tournament is also called the Western & Southern Open, and last year, it was sensationally won by Borna Coric .
And while the Croat managed to stun everybody in 2022, this year, the focus will once again shift to the big names. The top seed at the tournament is none other than Carlos Alcaraz , who will want to translate his form from the Canadian Open also to Cincinnati.
As with all the top-eight-seeded players, the Spaniard has a bye in the first round, and in the second round of the competition, he'll start against one of the qualifiers, or John Isner , who received a wild card for the tournament.

However, the run is over now. He faced Gael Monfils for a spot in the quarter-finals, and the French veteran defeated him in straight sets adding to his own superb week in the Canadian city. The crucial game of the first set was at 3-3 in the opening set when Monfils broke his opponent's serve.

The Australian bested both Borna Coric and Sebastian Korda en route to this 3rd round so he's earned his place as well. The match went largely as expected as Monfils came out with a pretty good blueprint for beating his opponent.
Vukic is an aggressive baseliner capable of hitting really well but he's not as consistent as someone like Carlos Alcaraz because he'd be Top 5 if he was. Monfils was always pretty good against those players using his athleticism to cover the court really well and we...

Borna Coric is no more on Instagram, as the Croatian seemingly deactivated his social media account following an early exit from the Canadian Open .
It's been a couple of tough seasons for Borna Coric, who spent a lot of time battling a shoulder injury that almost cost him his career. For a while, the Croatian contemplated stopping playing altogether because he wasn't able to play tennis without pain.
That situation resolved positively, giving him a chance to play tennis, and when he won Cincinnati last year , many assumed that the Croatian was back to his former self. It's a bit more complicated than that because he was back to playing solid tennis but not at his peak.
This year has been a level below all of that, and the latest disappointment seemingly left him very frustrated. He was facing lucky loser Aleksandar Vukic, and the Australian looked like prime Roger Federer out there.

Grigor Dimitrov lowkey put together a really impressive season so far, however, it won't extend in Canada as he withdrew from the Canadian Open in Toronto.
It was a rather sudden withdrawal from Dimitrov, who was in action just last week in Washington. The Bulgarian played a really solid week of tennis in the US capital, making his way to the semi-final, where he was beaten by Dan Evans.
Evans won the event in the end so it's not a terrible loss but it seems like he paid the price for his good play - an injury. According to reports, Dimitrov pulled out of the Canadian Open due to a back injury that has plagued him in the past.
There are only a few explanations here. Either it bothered him already in Washington, and it got worse so he's protecting his US Open or it's a completely new injury which would be even worse.

Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet fifth-seeded Alex De Minaur in the final of the 2023 Los Cabos Open on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

With a host of top names taking a breather this week, and a few electing to play the high-profile Atp 500 event in Washington, Tsitsipas raised eyebrows by making the long trip to Western Mexico to spearhead this year's Los Cabos Open.
And that decision could yield dividends for the Greek star who has played some of his best tennis this week in a surprisingly competitive field for an Atp 250 event. Tsitsipas tamed two big servers in John Isner and Nicolas Jarry - the latter being the only opponent to take a set from...

Stefanos Tsitsipas produced his most accomplished performance of the week at the expense of Borna Coric to reach the Los Cabos Open final.
In just 71 minutes, Tsitsipas raced to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Coric, shaking off any demons that seemed to engulf him while playing the Croat on hard courts. At the start of the season, Coric led their Atp head-to-head 3-1, but Tsitsipas has now turned the tables and leads 4-3, beating Coric three times in a row this year.
His latest display might be the best one yet, as he played with composure, patience, and an attacking mindset. Coric's tactics of pinning Tsitsipas in the backhand corner didn't quite work as anticipated. Tsitsipas, who previously defeated Nicolas Jarry , was able to mix it up with regular use of the drop shot and sliced quite a lot to keep the ball as low as possible. His serve was impregnable throughout.

Borna Coric finished late, or should we say early, against Ilya Ivashka, but he didn't even realize that he finished the match.
It was a long day at the 2023 Los Cabos Open on Thursday, with several matches going the distance. The court generally plays a bit slower than usual hard courts, which drags out the rallies. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nicolas Jarry took 3 hours to finish their match which was bad news for Borna Coric.

Stefanos Tsitsipas had to fight in the 2023 Los Cabos Open quarterfinals, but it was a victorious fight against Nicolas Jarry .
Ahead of the Atp 250 tournament in Mexico, top-seeded Tsitsipas felt good, saying that he has zero responsibility to prove anything to anyone . As the highest seed, he didn't have to play his first-round match, and started immediately in the second round.
In the second round, the Greek played against a big serve in John Isner, but the American isn't having the best season of his life, and therefore, Tsitsipas was able to comfortably win the match and set up a quarterfinal clash with Nicolas Jarry.
The Greek, known for his aggressive approach, found a robust opponent in Jarry. The Chilean, having entered the tournament as a wild card, seemed to have a point to prove and played some of the best tennis of his career, as he's been doing over the past few months.

Dominic Thiem is playing in Kitzbuhel this week, but he'll be in Winston-Salem later this month after receiving a wild card for the Atp 250 event.
Thiem is largely skipping the hard court prep for the double Masters' event in Cincinnati and Canada. The latter event is taking place next week, and that will be his first hard-court event in several months as he's coming straight off the clay.
Besides playing that event and the Cincinnati Masters after that, Thiem will be at the 2023 Winston-Salem Open as well to finetune his game for the US Open. He's had a really shaky record since winning the US Open a few years ago, missing it with an injury and everything else that happened.
It's been a rather shaky year for Thiem overall as he played only several matches that looked similar to the old Thiem. That level he had in the previous few...

The draw has been released for the 2023 Los Cabos Open , and once again, the Atp 250 event has a lot of star power to offer.
The entry list for the Los Cabos Open, also called the Mifel Tennis Open, is always quite fascinating, as it features multiple players from the Top 20, but then a minor drop and many players that are ranked lower than 50th in the Atp Rankings .
This year is no different, and while Karen Khachanov had to withdraw from the tournament , it still kept a lot of star power to shine brightly from July 31st to August 5th before players head to Canada for the Atp 1000 tournament in Toronto.
Daniil Medvedev won the title last year , and while the Russian won't compete in 2023, one of his biggest rivals will. Stefanos Tsitsipas is the first seed at the tournament, and as all four top seeds, he has a bye in the first round.

The 2023 Winston-Salem Open runs from August 20th to 26th and the entry list for the Atp 250 event promises a lot of thrilling action.
Thanks to being placed right ahead of the US Open in the calendar, the Winston-Salem Open usually attracts many tennis players and fans alike, because it's time of the season when players still want to fine-tune their game ahead of the last major of the season.
Last year, Adrian Mannarino won the title in Winston-Salem, and the Frenchman will be back to defend it in 2023. But the competition will be fierce, led by Borna Coric , who won the Cincinnati Masters last year , and he'll want to make sure to keep some of those points to his name in case he fails to defend his title at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters .
Also a couple of experienced Spaniards will play at the 2023 Winston-Salem Open as Pablo Carreno Busta and Roberto Bautista Agut...

The Cincinnati Masters , known as the Western & Southern Open for sponsorship reasons, awarded wild cards to a trio of former US Open champions.
The event is coming up in the next month, as it's traditionally held after the Canadian Open. Most players take part in both events, but for example, Novak Djokovic will be skipping the Canadian Open in favor of the Cincinnati Masters this year.
It will be the first event in the United States for Djokovic since his 2021 US Open final, which he lost to Daniil Medvedev. He'll be joined there by many great players, including a trio of former US Open champions as Bianca Andreescu , Stan Wawrinka , and Sloane Stephens all got wild card entries into the event.

Borna Coric and Donna Vekic from Croatia won the revived Hopman Cup that was held in Nice, France, from July 19th to 23rd, 2023.
Taking place in the picturesque city of Nice, France, the event has ended a years-long hiatus, returning back to the Atp & Wta calendars. The tournament even saw the men's World No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz, compete , but it wasn't Spain that walked away with the trophy.
The Croatian duo of Coric and Vekic, a pair that has shared almost two decades of friendship, were the best at the event, clinching their nation's first Hopman Cup win in nearly 30 years with a commanding 2-0 win against Switzerland in Sunday's final.
Coric and Vekic demonstrated stellar form, achieving clean victories over their Swiss counterparts, Leandro Riedi and Celine Naef, respectively. Vekic started the proceedings with a controlled performance, overpowering Naef 6-3, 6-4, which set the stage for Coric to secure the...

Carlos Alcaraz played his second singles match at the Hopman Cup and once again proved victorious taking down Borna Coric .
Alcaraz has been playing some really solid tennis in Nice and he proved it today again by beating Coric in straight sets. The first match at the Hopman Cup was very tough for Spaniard but he still managed to pull out a win in three sets .
He started to play better towards the end of that match and that continued to do that in this one as he was able to power past a solid but not spectacular Coric. The opening set went Alcaraz's way but it wasn't a bad one from Coric. He just allowed one break chance to Alcaraz and the Spaniard used it.
The second set was far closer overall as Coric took an early lead, one he couldn't hold for long but he showed himself in a positive light.

Despite winning Wimbledon just a few days ago, Carlos Alcaraz made a return to the courts by playing the 2023 Hopman Cup .
The event is a rather popular one, but the timing of it has been rather poor as most people have tuned out of tennis following Wimbledon. This part of the season is generally a bit lacklustre as most tennis players go on vacation with only a handful of big names playing events.
One of those is actually Carlos Alcaraz, who opted to play at the Hopman Cup. He made a winning start by beating David Goffin in the first match . It was a shaky performance overall, but still still good enough to win the match. Speaking at the event, Alcaraz admitted that he aims to remain humble in spite of his success.
I'm the same person as always, it doesn't matter if I win a lot of titles, if...

Andrey Rublev lost at the 2023 Wimbledon to Novak Djokovic and quickly made a trip to Huelva in Spain to play some tennis there.
Rublev had a really solid return to tennis at the 2023 Wimbledon making his way to the quarter-final of the event. Throughout the event, the Russian spoke about his gratitude for being welcomed warmly after last year's ban. Unfortunately, he ran into a very solid Novak Djokovic and despite winning the opening set, the Russian couldn't do much after that.
The match was played on July 11th, and he quickly left London for sunnier places as he touched down in Huelva to take part in the 2023 Copa del Rey de Tenis. The city is located in the Cadiz Gulf, very close to the Portuguese border, and it's been hosting an exhibition event for many years.
Many great players have taken part in the event over the years, including Rafael Nadal,...
