African streamer Showmax has dated and unveiled a first trailer for “Twende,” its first original 2D animated series.
“Twende” follows a pangolin of the same name, the slowest moving animal in the savannah. The pilot screened in competition at Annecy in 2021. MultiChoice Studios is handling international sales and will present “Twende” at Mipcom.
“Twende’s belief that, ‘life is about the journey, not the destination’ is constantly at odds with his job as a boda boda (motorbike taxi) driver in the bustling, fictional East African city of Milima,” said South African showrunner Greig Cameron, who also wrote and directed “Seal Team,” which was in the Netflix global Top 10 film list in January last year, as well as hit soccer animated series, “Supa Strikas.”
Twende is voiced by Junior Nyong’o (“The Legend of Lwanda Magere”), while June Gachui (“Crime and Justice”) plays his best friend and navigator, Nuru – a smart bird...

Most of cinema’s best films are those that do rather than explain. These works are created by artists wielding airtight concepts insofar as attaining their goal of delivering a specific, emotion-fueled message. Kenyan creative Mbithi Masya‘s feature debut Kati Kati is a perfect example of what can be made when the right resources are supplied to the right people. We don’t know how they got here or what comes next, but we do quickly understand the thing keeping them: guilt.
