"It's my planet, I want to protect it." Universal has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary film titled The Wonderful: Stories From the Space Station, from filmmaker Clare Lewins of the doc film I Am Ali previously. This time she focuses on the astronauts, and all of the other people involved, who have been to the International Space Station (also known as the Iss). It originally launched in 1998 and has been orbiting Earth for the last 23 years. Drawing on breath-taking archive and interviews shot with astronauts, cosmonauts, family members and colleagues, the film revels in the remarkable achievement of technology, international collaboration, scientific endeavour and human bravery that the Iss has encapsulated during its time in space, and provides an insight into the beauty and majesty of witnessing earth from above. The film features George Abbey, Ken Bowersox, Cady Coleman, Samantha Cristoforetti, Frank Culbertson, Scott Kelly, Sergei Krikalev, Tim Peake,...

After all these years, boxing champion Muhammad Ali remains one of the most charismatic individuals on the face of the Earth. Even though Parkinson’s disease has robbed him of the ability to speak, his presence still has people at their feet and applauding him loudly.
Many movies have been made about his life, but Clare Lewins’ documentary I Am Ali proves to be the most intimate one of them all. Lewins ended up receiving unprecedented access to Ali’s personal archive of audio journals and also conducted interviews with his family and closest friends. Regardless of how many times you have heard the legendary boxer’s life story, this is Ali like you’ve never seen him before.
A couple of weeks back at the film’s press day, I landed an exclusive interview with Muhammad Ali’s two daughters, Maryum and Hana. They were a lot of fun to speak with,...

Intense music drama Whiplash, already a big winner at Sundance and the Deauville American Film Festival earlier this year, should drum up plenty of audience interest in its debut this weekend, even though it faces a crowded specialty market that also features several other notable newcomers, including the Bill Murray comedy St. Vincent, Hilary Swank‘s You’re Not You and Jeremy Renner‘s Kill the Messenger. All are what I’d call “big” specialty releases, with big names attached that should attract big attention.
The weekend also includes what I’d call some “small” releases, including documentaries The Overnighters (another Sundance winner) and I Am Ali, about the former heavyweight boxing champion, alongside the Mormon Church-backed Meet the Mormons. All will be clawing for attention in a market that’s seen more than 30 films debut in the past three weeks.
That said, Whiplash should be a real career turner...

Few people on the planet have ever been as good at anything as Muhammad Ali was at boxing; fewer still have the outsized charisma to match that talent. It doesn’t seem much of an overstatement to say that The Greatest is also one of the more fascinating men of our age, nor is it much of a surprise that yet another movie has been made about him. Clare Lewins’s I Am Ali seeks to differentiate itself from such predecessors as Jim Jacobs’s a.k.a. Cassius Clay and Michael Mann’s Ali via an unprecedented level of archival footage and recordings — if you’ve been dying to hear the three-time heavyweight champion have endearingly mundane telephone conversations with his wife and kids, this is the documentary for you.

“I am the greatest. I said that before I even knew I was.” – Muhammad Ali
Here’s your first look at the upcoming film, I Am Ali. From director Clare Lewins and the producers of the award-winning Searching For Sugarman comes an intimate and heart-warming look at the man behind the legend – as we’ve never seen Ali before.
This documentary features previously unseen family photographs and tape recordings which have never been heard outside the family.
These audio recordings, based on telephone conversations and tape recordings Ali made of his family and friends provide the narrative spine of the film.
Given that Ali is no longer able to talk as he once did, this audio archive gives the film a freshness and poignancy and ensures that Ali’s charismatic voice is stamped on his own story.
This film is a very personal account of Ali not just as a fighter but as a father,...
