Alex Rodriguez is one of the bidders for the right to purchase the New York Mets. Which could have led to a very uncomfortable moment or two in his role as a Sunday Night Baseball analyst for ESPN when the Mets were scheduled.
Faced with criticizing players whom he might soon employ, Rodriguez was spared the awkwardness by ESPN, who said they will avoid putting him on Mets games as he remains an analyst.
The Mets’ only Sunday night game is scheduled for July 26 against the Braves. For that game, ex-Brave Chipper Jones will replace Rodriguez as the analyst. Rodriguez will instead call the Dodgers-Giants game.
ESPN has run into the situation before. Last year, Jessica Mendoza worked as an analyst for a few Mets games, even though she worked as a Mets adviser.
Rodriguez and girlfriend Jennifer Lopez have a consortium that is one of the leaders in the bidding to purchase the Mets.

Sunday night’s Mlb game was not only a big win for the Boston Red Sox. The faceoff between the Red Sox and the New York Yankees, which saw Boston defeat New York in 10 innings, delivered the best Sunday Night Baseball rating in four years for ESPN, according to Nielsen. The telecast drew a 2.2 metered market rating, making it the highest-rated Sunday Night Baseball telecast since the Texas Rangers-Los Angeles Angels’ faceoff on June 22, 2014 (2.4 rating). This excludes the Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals 2017 Opening Night telecast, held on a Sunday.
The telecast, which saw the Sox score three runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, then beat the Yankees 5-4 in the 10th inning on a three-hop single by Andrew Benintendi, was up 83 percent from last year’s comparable game between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers (1.2 rating).

This news isn’t likely to cheer Clayton Kershaw up, but ESPN said today that Thursday’s 2018 Mlb opener for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants drew the sports net’s best opening-day numbers in six years.
The 1-0 victory by the hated Giants at Dodger Stadium was seen by 1.67 million viewers, also making it the most-watched regular-season weekday Major League Baseball game since opening day 2012, per Nielsen. The game marked the debut of the Worldwide Leader’s new Sunday Night Baseball team of Matt Vasgersian, Alex Rodriguez, and Jessica Mendoza.
For the Dodgers, it was the first game that counted since the team’s disappointing Game 7 of last year’s World Series — a plodding 5-1 loss that capped an otherwise ferocious Fall Classic that saw the Houston Astros captures the first world championship in franchise history.

Espn is set to eliminate up to 350 jobs in order to confront rising programming costs and a loss of viewers, according to media reports. The Disney-owned company could make the cut of approximately 4.3 percent of its workforce as early as Wednesday, Bloomberg reported. The expected cost-cutting action follows Disney’s announcement in August that earnings at its cable networks won’t meet company forecasts as a result of subscriber losses and currency translation, which triggered a selloff in the shares of many media companies. Jessica Mendoza, an Espn analyst, made history on Tuesday by being the first woman to call a Major League Baseball playoff game. While the moment was groundbreaking, it didn't stop Atlanta sports radio host Mike Bell from voicing his controversial opinions about it. A women's softball slugger as guest analyst on Mlb Wildcard Game? Once again Espn too frigging cute for their own good." He continued, "You guys are telling me there...
