Sam Smith has confronted a “crazy” rumour created by fans who believe that Adele and Sam Smith are the same person.
Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show, the “Unholy” singer, â.â.who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, confessed to Barrymore that the “craziest” rumour they’ve heard about themselves is that they and Adele are the same person.
The “Stay With Me” musician said: “Everyone thinks I’m Adele. We’ve never been in the same room together.”
They continued, explaining the methodology behind the conspiracy theory: “If you slow down her voice, it sounds a bit like mine.” The singer, 30, said that people think they and Adele, 34, are the “same person.”
“I’m just in drag right now,” Smith said, laughing.
While some fans have posted their theories on social media, with one person tweeting in 2018, “Anyone notice that Adele isn’t at the Grammys this year?...

Stephen Hendry said he was fined by snooker bosses after pulling out of events due to his appearance on The Masked Singer.
The seven-time world champion, 54, was revealed as the character Rubbish on the ITV celebrity singing show on Saturday.
Asked by the Pa news agency what he told people he was doing while keeping his identity a secret, the former world number one said: “I do have wildcards to play in some snooker events and I actually pulled out of a couple of events and got fined by the Wpbsa (World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association) for doing it.
“And I couldn’t tell them why because this recording was going on and I couldn’t obviously say why I pulled out… I just said ‘Look, I can’t play the tournament’.
“So, yeah, it was, very, very, very strange… you’re dying to tell people what you’re doing but you can’t.

Sam Smith has shared their “frustration” about the treatment of women at the Brit Awards.
The nominations for this year’s ceremony were revealed earlier this month. Since 2022, the Brits have not used gendered categories for their awards, and have instead combined the four male and female awards for UK and international artists into Best Artist and Best International Artist.
However, this year’s awards have been widely criticised after no female artists were nominated for Best Artist in 2023.
Instead, the accolade will go to Stormzy, Harry Styles, George Ezra, Fred Again or Central Cee.
Smith, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, was among the artists to initially call for the Brits to introduce gender-neutral categories. In 2021, they said that they “looked forward to a time where awards shows can be reflective of the society we live in”.

Miley Cyrus’s new single “Flowers” just broke a huge Spotify record.
The streaming platform announced Friday (20 January) that the song had broken its record for the most streams in a single week.
For the first time in Spotify’s history, a song has been streamed more than 100 million times in seven days with Cyrus’s record racking up 101,838,799 streams since coming out 12 January.
“It’s been incredible watching ‘Flowers’ break the record for most streams in a single week,” Jana Coffey, Spotify’s artist and label partnerships lead, told Variety.
“The song was already off to an amazing start after its first day, and it’s only grown from there. Rather than seeing massive streams on day one that decline throughout the week, each day since release has been bigger than the one before. Miley is back, and with her album Endless Summer Vacation coming out in a few...
