Herschel Sizemore was born on August 6, 1935 in Sheffield, Alabama, USA. Herschel was married to Joyce. Herschel died on September 9, 2022 in Roanoke, Virginia, USA.
After the Dixie Gentlemen broke up he joined Bobby Smith & the Boys from Shiloh.
When he was 14 years of age, he got his first paying musical job playing with Ned Campbell & the Sunnyside Playboys.
His early influences were his mother, a very good self-taught guitarist in a style that, while likened to that of Mother Maybelle Carter, actually preceded her, and old-time fiddler Hugh McCormick.
From 1967 to 1969 he worked with Jimmy Martin & the Sunny Mountain Boys.
To support his family he held a full-time job at Purolator Courier.
