Among Marvel Studios’ upcoming releases, the ‘Avengers’ series stands out as the most anticipated. With two new installments in development, the journey to the fifth film has been eventful. Following Jonathan Majors’ dismissal in December due to allegations of third-degree assault against his former partner, the film’s direction has become uncertain.
Internally, the title shifted from ‘Kang Dynasty’ to ‘Avengers 5,’ leaving doubts about Kang’s role as the main antagonist. To provide clarity amidst the confusion, we’ve crafted this guide to consolidate all current information about the movie.

In the years since the release of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been struggling. Unimpressive box office performance and lukewarm critical and fan response have plagued the superhero franchise that used to be one of the most reliable in cinema. But who’s to blame?
It might be Rick and Morty.

MCU has quite a lot of projects to release in 2024, 2025, and beyond. We know that there are several movies being worked on currently and affected by the strikes, but none of them are as anticipated as ‘Avengers 5’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ which are expected to continue MCU’s tradition of majestic crossovers.
Since the movie is a long time away from being released, there’s not much information about it except for the supposed release date, still we gathered all the rumors in one place and decided to present you with this neat guide.
‘Avengers: Secrets Wars’ is heavily rumored to reboot the current MCU
The sixth Avengers title draws inspiration from the ‘Secret Wars’ comic storylines released in 1984 and 2015, particularly the latter, which focused more on the multiverse. In the MCU, hints from Kang in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” suggest a similar multiversal conflict, mirroring the storyline where two universes clash,...

After producing the upcoming documentary “The Blue Angels,” J.J. Abrams and Glen Powell are in early talks to team up for a new movie, with Abrams eyeing Powell to star in his next directorial effort.
Deals have yet to close, but in the aftermath of “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Anyone but You,” no one’s career has been hotter than Powell’s, who continues to garner interest from big-name filmmakers and studios.
There’s no telling when this project would fit into Powell’s jam-packed production schedule. He’ll next be seen starring in Netflix’s “Hit Man,” which he also co-wrote with director Richard Linklater, but he’s also set to star in Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man” reboot for Paramount. That news was revealed at CinemaCon, where the actor also promoted Universal’s “Twisters” as a prospective summer blockbuster. Also in the works is “Chad Powers,” a...

Avengers 5 was originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, only for the movie to lose that shortly after Marvel Studios decided to take the focus off Kang the Conqueror (a result of the mixed response to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Jonathan Majors' legal troubles).
However, a new actor is expected to play a Kang Variant who will still be the Multiverse Saga's main threat. Meanwhile, Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is overhauling Avengers 5's script after Jeff Loveness first took a crack at it.
He was supposedly fired from the project shortly after the Ant-Man threequel flopped, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has moved on to Wonder Man and the Shang-Chi sequel.

Of all the Marvel Studios movies coming up, the ‘Avengers’ series is the big one everyone’s buzzing about. With two new ‘Avengers’ flicks on the way, the fifth installment has had its fair share of drama lately.
Majors got the boot in December due to assault charges from his ex, and now, things are up in the air. The movie’s name switched from ‘Kang Dynasty’ to ‘Avenger 5,’ and we’re not even sure if Kang’s still the bad guy.
Jeff Sneider dropped some new info, or maybe just rumors, on us. On his latest Hot Mic show, he said the studio’s hunting for a fresh director who’s never directed a Marvel flick before, showing they’re considering all options. He also says his sources claim that the movie’s set to kick off filming early next year.
The movie’s journey has been a rollercoaster.

Michael Douglas had a request for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: He wanted his character to die.
The Oscar-winning actor stopped by The View on Thursday to promote his new Apple TV+ series, Franklin. During the conversation, he was asked about his comments to The Hollywood Reporter about wanting his character in the Ant-Man franchise, Hank Pym, to be killed off in the third film.
“This actually was my request for the third one,” Douglas explained of his desire for his character to die. “I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is.
He continued, “I want to use all those effects. But, that was on the last one. Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up.”

Heels has nailed its landing after Starz canceled the series in 2023. Netflix and Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group have agreed to a licensing agreement for the two seasons of critically-acclaimed drama from Mike O’Malley.
Deadline has learned there is an option for a third season, but that all depends on the availability of stars Stephen Amell, who booked the lead role in the Suits spinoff, and Alexander Ludwig, who’s toplining Earth Abides for MGM+. A spokesman for Lionsgate declined to comment.
Heels revolves around the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals (Amell and Ludwig) war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those...

The concept of the Multiverse, although introduced pretty early on in Phase 5 of the MCU, was properly and extensively explored in the 2022 MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where alternate realities and other dimensions were elaborated in details.
But with new avenues also came new problems in terms of tackling them, and screenwriter Michael Waldron caught a case of writer’s block when he had to kill Blackbolt in the film.
Benedict Cumberbatch in a still from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
But thankfully, filmmaker Sam Raimi was there to aid him with his quick and somewhat genius idea. When Waldron posed this problem to the director, he simply suggested he let Wanda take away his mouth since Blackbolt’s superpower was his voice. While it was pretty simple, it also took away from any major confrontation, which made it somewhat counterproductive for the fans to enjoy.

‘Loki’ Episode ‘Glorious Purpose’ Nominated for Best Dramatic Presentation Amongst Strong Contenders
Last year, Marvel Studios faced criticism and low box office numbers with two out of three major projects flopping both financially and critically. However, ‘Loki’ came back strong with its second season, earning praise from fans and critics alike as one of MCU’s best recent releases.
The show not only delivered an enjoyable experience but also wrapped up Loki’s character arc well while laying the groundwork for future Multiverse Saga developments. It’s no surprise that ‘Loki’ has garnered multiple award nominations, including this year’s Hugo Awards, known for honoring outstanding science fiction and fantasy works.

‘Loki’ Episode ‘Glorious Purpose’ Nominated for Best Dramatic Presentation Against Tough Competition
Marvel Studios faced fan backlash and record low-box office results last year, with 2 out of 3 major projects failing both when it comes to earnings and critical reception, but not all was bad. ‘Loki’ returned with the second season and the show was highly praised by fans and critics alike, being the best project that the MCU has released in recent time.
The show was not only extremely enjoyable and ended Loki’s character development on a high note, it also set up some pretty grand implications for the continuation of the Multiverse Saga. It’s no wonder then that the show has been nominated for several awards, including this year’s Hugo award. The Hugo Awards are prestigious awards given annually for the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements. Dan Harmon has established a pretty neat little entertainment empire, creating the beloved cult hit "Community" before co-creating "Rick and Morty" and overseeing Apple TV+'s "Strange Planet" and Fox's "Krapopolis." But it's been a rocky road to success for Harmon, who was previously kicked off his own show before being rehired, and in 2018 had to publicly apologize for his prior mistreatment of "Community" writer Megan Ganz — and those are just a couple of examples of the man's controversies. Despite these debacles, however, Harmon has been an entertainment mainstay for well over a decade at this point, and during that time he's not only managed to create several of his own successful shows, but he's also apparently been fairly influential in perhaps the biggest Hollywood success story of the modern era: the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If there’s one thing Americans like arguing about, it’s football. But this one isn’t about the Chiefs and the 49ers (or all of the Taylor Swift in between), but rather the Giants and…Top Gun? That’s right, one of the NFL’s most famous quarterbacks and the star of one of the highest-grossing films of the decade have clashed, prompting a brand new debate: Who handles a football better, Eli Manning or Glen Powell? But this one won’t be settled on the gridiron.
Glen Powell and Eli Manning had a humorous exchange soon after it was announced that the actor would be starring in an upcoming Hulu comedy series spawned from Manning’s own fictional undercover football wannabe. In his jab, Manning wrote, “I hope Glen is working on his Qb skills, I saw him throw a football in Maverick…he has some work to do!

Glen Powell is headed to Hulu to star in a new football series that he co-created.
Fresh off the success of his rom-com Anyone But You, the 35-year-old actor is putting together the show, titled Chad Powers.
If it sounds familiar, that’s because it’s inspired by an old skit that NFL star Eli Manning filmed!
Read more about Glen Powell’s new project…
Chad Powers pulls inspiration from a plot on the Esnp+ series Eli’s Places. In one episode, Eli portrayed an alter ego named Chad who went back to college to play football at Penn State.
Glen is creating the new series, which has been compared to Ted Lasso, alongside Michael Waldron. They co-wrote the pilot and are acting as executive producers alongside Eli and his brother Peyton.
“We’re both diehard college football fans,” the collaborators said in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

No one loves Eli Manning as much as I do. Somewhere, I have a book on Manning inscribed, “To the only Giants fan who never booed Eli.” (Accurate.) There are the jerseys, cards, the autographs, the bobbleheads. I was at Eli’s first game, his retirement ceremony game, and so many in between. One time, I interviewed Manning while he was ostensibly promoting Frank’s RedHot Original sauce just so I could relive the glory days he never knew we shared. But I know a ripoff when I see one, and Hulu’s new series “Chad Powers” is a direct attempt to capitalize on the gigantic success of Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso.”
Before “Ted Lasso” was a show, Ted Lasso was a heightened fish-out-of-water original character created solely to promote a major media company’s sports brand. It was to be a one-and-done comedy skit. Before “Chad Powers” was a show,...

Glen Powell is headed back to college — and to Hulu.
The red-hot star of Anyone but You and the forthcoming Twisters will star in Chad Powers, a comedy series about a disgraced college football quarterback who disguises himself and walks on to another school’s team. Powell also co-created the Ted Lasso-ish series with Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki and writer of the next two Avengers movies. It’s based on an episode of ESPN+’s Eli’s Places, in which former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning goes undercover as a walk-on prospect named Chad Powers at Penn State (watch the episode below).

Powell will star in the series in addition to co-creating and co-writing the pilot with Waldron, with both serving as executive producers. For much of the last year, the question has hung in the air around what Marvel is going to do with Kang. First, Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania underperformed significantly, intended to be the Multiverse Saga uber-villain’s big launch on the world. Then, months after allegations were made against him, actor Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault in December, at which point he was dropped by the studio. In the wake of all that, Marvel Studios is said to be retooling its plans for the future – plans which originally had the next Avengers movie down as The Kang Dynasty.
According to a new THR report, Marvel is said to be dropping the name The Kang Dynasty for Avengers 5, a move which is said to be a reflection of both Majors’ removal from the role, and the underwhelming reaction to Quantumania. The film previously had Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton as director,...

Marvel Studios faces delays and reshuffling of movie releases due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, controversies, and other issues. Among the highly anticipated projects are the next installments in the ‘Avengers’ franchise, and recent months have been filled with developments.
On June 13, 2023, a film originally with an unspecified release date was pushed back to May 1, 2026. Then, on November 15, 2023, Deadline reported that the appointed director, Destin Daniel Cretton, stepped down to focus on directing ‘Shang-Chi 2.’ Additionally, on November 27, 2023, Michael Waldron replaced Jeff Loveness as the scriptwriter.
A major turn of events unfolded on December 18, 2023, when Jonathan Majors was terminated by Walt Disney Studios following an assault and harassment verdict earlier that day. Simultaneously, Marvel Studios shifted the film’s internal reference from ‘The Kang Dynasty’ to ‘Avengers 5,’ hinting at a potential change in direction or focus within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios has quite a lot of movies to be released in the next few years; most of the projects were, however, delayed or switched dates with other projects due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and due to some controversies and other issues that needed to be addressed. The movies that fans are most hyped about are certainly continuations of the ‘Avengers’ franchise, and oh boy, we’ve been through a lot regarding that in the last few months.
On June 13, 2023, it was announced that a film originally set for release on an unspecified date had been postponed to May 1, 2026. Jonathan Majors has been dropped by Marvel from his role as Kang, following his conviction yesterday.
On the 18th of December, Jonathan Majors was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of assault against his ex-girlfriend. It’s a horrible situation for the victim and you can read the details elsewhere.
It feels wrong to even consider something as comparatively trivial as where this leaves a film franchise under the circumstances, but nevertheless Marvel’s response was immediate (via Variety).

Jonathan Majors has been dropped by Marvel and his character, Kang the Conqueror, will either be recast or written out of the franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The decision follows Majors’ conviction of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment on Monday.
Majors portrayed Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, a character established as the primary antagonist for the current Multiverse Saga, much like Thanos was the keystone villain of the previous Infinity Saga. Majors debuted as a “variant” of Kang called He Who Remains in Season 1 of the Disney+ series Loki, returning in this year’s Season 2 as another variant named Victor Timely. He also starred in this year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as the Kang the Conqueror variant, as well as the dozens of other variants in The Council of Kangs mid-credits scene.

Jonathan Majors is out at Marvel Studios in a stunning career blow for the once-rising actor.
On Dec. 18, a Manhattan jury found Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment following a two-week trial that stemmed from a March incident between the actor and his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari.
Before his March arrest, Majors was positioned as the key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the Disney-owned studio building its entire current story arc around Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. The time-traveling villain factored into this year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as well as both seasons of Loki, and he was going to lead Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, slated for May 1, 2026. [Update: This article has been updated with the announcement that Disney/Marvel have fired Jonathan Majors following the verdict. Additional information follows the initial reporting.]
After an estimated four hours of deliberation over the course of three days, a New York jury has found Marvel and "Creed III" star Jonathan Majors guilty of harassment and assault in the third degree as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Majors called 911 on March 25, 2023, claiming that he had found his former partner Grace Jabbari unconscious in their apartment, and was arrested after police discovered Jabbari had an injured finger and a laceration behind her ear. Majors was facing four charges of assault, aggravated harassment, and harassment. He pled not guilty to all charges.

The rumours have proved to be true and Loki scribe Michael Waldron has been named as the new writer on the next Avengers movie.
A couple of weeks ago we covered a story that reported that Destin Daniel Cretton had exited the director’s chair of Marvel Studio’s upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Following the film being pushed back by a year into 2026, the Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings director left the role, probably because he has other Marvel commitments including a Shang-Chi sequel and directing and executive producing duties on the Wonder Man TV show.
When that story was circulating, The Ringer's Joanna Robinson, author of the recently-released book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, (well worth a read by the way) offered an additional take: the film’s writer, Jeff Loveness, wouldn’t be staying on the project either given that it was looking...

Michael Waldron is having a good day. According to Deadline, the screenwriter is now set to write Marvel Studios' "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty." Waldron, of course, is currently also set to write the script for "Avengers: Secret Wars," the sequel to "The Kang Dynasty." That movie will mark the grand finale of the current Multiverse Saga that connects Phases 4, 5, and 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Waldron will be replacing Jeff Loveness, who was assumed to have left the project as Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") departed as a director earlier this month. As of now, neither of these next two "Avengers" movies has a director yet, but having Waldron on board to write both does seem like a smart choice to give them a more cohesive tone and structure.

When Marvel finds a writer or filmmaker they like, particularly Kevin Feige, the studio tends to hang on to them. And perhaps recently, no one in the current Marvel Studios bullpen has done more repeat business with Marvel Studios with writer/producer Michael Waldron. To that end, the screenwriter has been tapped to write “Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” which will be the fifth installment of the ‘Avengers’ franchise.

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios has tapped Michael Waldron to write Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. This places the Loki creator as the man who will bring the Multiverse Saga to a close, as he’s already attached to write Avengers: Secret Wars as well.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has been through a number of major changes this month. Jeff Loveless (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) was originally set to pen the screenplay, but it was announced two weeks ago that he was no longer attached to the project; Then, just one day later, Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings) stepped down as director. With Michael Waldron handling the writing side of both The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, there have been rumours that Marvel is looking for a director to helm both movies.

Marvel Studios is moving fast to find a new variant on its script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Marvel mainstay Michael Waldron will tackle Kang Dynasty, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The hiring cements Waldron as a key architect of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, its sprawling story told across multiple realities in film and TV. Waldron entered the Marvel fold as the creator of Loki, and went on to write Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He is also the scribe behind Avengers: Secret Wars, which will follow Kang Dynasty. Kang is due out May 1, 2026, while Secret Wars has a release date of May 7, 2027.
The move follows the exit of director Destin Daniel Cretton, who remains in the Marvel fold on the TV show Wonder Man as well as with his upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel.

“Loki” creator Michael Waldron has been hired to write the screenplay for “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
He was already on board to pen the sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which will conclude this stretch — known as the Multiverse Saga — of the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe. The films will presumably be connected, à la the two-part tale of 2018’s “Infinity War” and 2019’s “Endgame.”
“Kang Dynasty” is currently scheduled to land in theaters on May 1, 2026. It will be succeeded by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7, 2027. However, neither of those films has a director. Destin Daniel Cretton recently departed “Kang Dynasty,” and the studio has yet to appoint a filmmaker for “Secret Wars.”
Beyond its directors, the state of “Kang Dynasty” and “Secret Wars” has been a subject of speculation. That’s because Jonathan Majors has already played multiple versions of the titular supervillain Kang — the Thanos of this phase of the MCU...

Exclusive: Michael Waldron has been tapped to write Marvel Studios’ Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Waldron had already been set to write Avengers: Secret Wars, the installment that would follow Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and will now write both Avengers sequels. Waldron has become one of Marvel’s most trusted creative minds having previously created and served as showrunner of season 1 of Loki as well as writing Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness and the move make sense to the studio to have him pen both films. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce.
Deadline recently broke that Destin Daniel Cretton would not be directing the film in order to focus on his other Marvel projects like the TV series Wonder Man. Avengers: Kang Dynasty is far on the theatrical release schedule, dated to kick off summer on May 1, 2026, giving Waldron more then enough time to pen a script as the director search begins.

For the first three phases, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seemed to be bulletproof. Even when a wrench was thrown into the machine, and Marvel Studios had to recast for someone like Edward Norton or replace a director like Edgar Wright, Kevin Feige’s ultimate vision would keep the train from derailing. The studio’s bubble is currently expanding to the point that many feel it will burst from the tension. One of the biggest hurdles going forward is how the studio plans to handle actor Jonathan Majors in his role as Kang the Conqueror. Majors’ ongoing controversy and a lingering trial, which will either convict or release the actor of domestic abuse charges, is casting an unforeseen shadow on the future of the multiverse era.
