Exclusive: Filming has begun on Paramount+’s long-gestating Misan Harriman social change feature doc Protest and Progress.
The film, which was announced back in 2021, explores the influence and significance of protest movements in shaping social change, with photographer and social activist Harriman, who was Oscar-nominated for his short film The After, fronting it.
Protest and Progress will follow Harriman as he travels around the world documenting the resilience and determination of grassroots activists fighting for movements including equality, gender justice, LGBTQ+ rights, environmental sustainability and more. Exclusive: Casting director Jennifer Presser has set her company Break Away Casting into what has been described as a “new collaborative production model” with the London-based TV and film production company Shot of Tea.
As part of the deal, Presser will step into the role of creative producer on Shot of Tea projects. The two companies will collaborate on original projects with the aim of promoting underrepresented scripts and talent. The companies will continue to operate independently.
Shot of Tea, founded in 2017 by Aletha Shepherd, focuses on character-driven films and television series. Its upcoming film Everything & The Universe is currently in post-production and features Ej Bonilla, Nicolette Pearse, Chelsea Gilligan, and Luke Roberts. U.K. independent production company Shot of Tea has revealed a charismatic cast for romantic comedy feature “Everything and the Universe.”
The film stars E.J. Bonilla (“The Old Man”), Nicolette Pearse (“Kim’s Convenience”), Chelsea Gilligan (“Mid-Century) and Luke Roberts (“Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities”). It is directed by Sarah Scarlett Downing, her first feature film, following her web series “Cleansed,” co-written and co-directed with Flora Birnbaum, which was nominated for the grand jury award at SXSW in 2018.
In the film, skeptical, sexually fluid scientist, Jane Kinney (Pearse) and believer in fate, Henry Devine (Bonilla) meet on their way to the wedding of their toxically magnetic friend Sam (Gilligan) and closeted professor of astrophysics Brian (Roberts). When they arrive at their destination, the diametrically opposed duo discover they are both in love with the same woman. Grappling with feelings old and new, these two unlikely allies formulate a strategy to confront the bride.
