The coronation of King Charles III took place on Saturday. The Dean of Westminster poured holy oil onto the Coronation Spoon. Afterward, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby anointed Charles on his head, breast and hands.
Welby then placed St. Edward’s Crown on Charles’ head and exclaimed, “God Save the King,” followed by everyone in attendance.
Camilla, Charles’ wife, was also crowned as Queen. She was similarly anointed with holy oil by Welby and had Queen Mary’s Crown placed on her head. Camilla’s coronation dress was a combination of silver, gold and ivory created by British fashion designer Bruce Oldfield. It was tailored from a silk fabric called Peau de Soie and formed into a coat dress shape.

King Charles‘ coronation will contain a never-before-used element that incorporates the public participating in a supportive “rally cry” for the new monarch. However, while it “looked like a winning idea,” a royal commentator claims this new ceremony twist could go “oh so wrong.”

King Charles plans to incorporate the public into his coronation ceremony. This is a first for the monarchy.
Charles will ask for a Homage of the People. This element was introduced to allow those in the United Kingdom and worldwide to participate in the coronation.
The people’s homage replaces the traditional Homage of Peers, where peers knelt to pay tribute to the monarch before touching the crown and kissing their right cheek.

King Charles III‘s coronation will have some personal touches when he is crowned king of the United Kingdom on May 6. Buckingham Palace has set the date for King Charles III‘s coronation. The ceremony is set for Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey in London. The coronation comes eight months after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8 and her funeral on September 19. Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will conduct the ceremony, which is largely symbolic, as Charles has already begun his reign. Camilla Parker Bowles will be crowned alongside Charles on May 6. Stop all the clocks,” Wh Auden famously wrote of the enormity of grief; “cut off the telephone... Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.” If Auden were writing that poem about the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the clocks might be replaced with “traffic” and the telephone with “central London”. For one day, Britain seems to have ground to a halt.
In a television landscape increasingly dominated by on-demand streaming, where live “event TV” has become limited to the Euros finals and Love Island, today we bore witness to the passing of a seminal moment in our island’s story: all the major channels devoted their scheduling to the Queen’s funeral, in a sombre, striking acknowledgement that an era is ending. And in this wall-to-wall broadcast, the protagonists – the new King Charles, his wife Camilla, sons William and Harry, and their wives, Kate and Meghan – moved with the enforced dispassion of performers.

Channel 5 has been praised for being the only UK public service broadcaster not to show any Queen-related coverage on Monday 19 September, the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
While BBC One, BBC Two and ITV all aired the funeral live and Channel 4 showed a documentary on the Queen, Channel 5 chose to air animated children’s film The Emoji Movie.
The choice went down well with some viewers. One tweeted that they “don’t understand the criticism of Channel 5 for showing The Emoji Movie during the queen’s funeral”, adding: “What are kids of families who don’t have paid TV/streaming supposed to do otherwise, sit and watch people in suits look overly sad for six hours?”
“Channel 5 deserve a lot of respect for this,” another posted. “Airing an entire day’s worth of kid and family-friendly content to give us a break from wall-to-wall bleakness is a great move.

Archbishop Justin Welby quoted the late Vera Lynn’s famous Second World War song “We’ll Meet Again” at Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral on Monday (19 September).
During his sermon at Westminster Abbey, the Most Rev Welby said: “Her late Majesty’s broadcast during Covid lockdown ended with, ‘We will meet again.’ Words of hope from a song of Vera Lynn. Christian hope means certain expectation of something not yet seen.”
After speaking about how the grief felt around the world over the late monarch’s death “arises from her abundant life and loving service”, Welby concluded his sermon with another mention of the song’s lyrics, saying: “All who follow the Queen’s example and inspiration of trust and faith in God can, with her, say, ‘We will meet again.’”
In 2020, the Queen had quoted the famous melody during a speech in which she called on the nation to stay positive throughout the crisis.

Britain’s new king prepared to meet with the prime minister Friday and address a nation mourning Queen Elizabeth II, the only British monarch most of the world had known and a force of stability in a volatile age.
The country began a 10-day mourning period Friday, with bells tolling around Britain and 96-gun salutes in London – one for each year of the queen’s long life. People around the globe gathered at British embassies to pay homage to the queen, who died Thursday in Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
King Charles III, who spent much of his 73 years preparing for the role, takes the throne in an era of uncertainty for both his country and the monarchy itself. In Britain and across its former colonies, the widespread admiration for Elizabeth herself was sometimes mixed with criticism for the institution and the imperial history she represented.

Usually busy guiding the country’s moral compass, the leader of the Church of England has spent time this week deflecting criticism after he dared to weigh in on something nearly as pressing – the spiritual value, or lack thereof, of The Great British Bake Off.
Earlier this week, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, gave an interview to the Radio Times magazine in which he mentioned he didn’t watch the popular TV baking competition (titled The Great British Baking Show in the US and Canada) because he disliked the way “contestants were thrown out the show”. He explained, “I think it’s the modern equivalent of gladiatorial games.”
Fans of Bake Off quickly took him to task, pointing out the kindly nature of the program, in contrast to other, more brutal competitions, citing the support contestants lend one another throughout the series.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex covered a number of topics (to say the least) during their interview with Oprah Winfrey on March 7, including their wedding. Meghan and Harry's royal nuptials on May 19, 2018, were watched by an estimated 18 million people in the United Kingdom and 29 million in the United States. It was perhaps one of the biggest events of the entire year. But it turns out the couple actually got married three days before the televised royal event in a small, private ceremony in their backyard.

"We called the archbishop and we just said, 'Look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world, but we want our union between us.'" The British royal family came together for a very important event on Monday: Prince Louis's christening. The christening of the third child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took place at the Chapel Royal in the grounds of St. James's Palace, the same place his older brother Prince George was christened in 2013. At the ceremony, Louis Arthur Charles was baptized into the Church of England, by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, who recently presided over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. The Christian religion has been intrinsically linked to the royal family since it was created by King Henry VIII in 1534. Louis's great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was not in attendance, is the Supreme Governor of the church.

Prince Louis may only be 2 months old, but he already shares a special connection with his new aunt, Meghan Markle. The royal's christening will be held on July 9 in the Chapel Royal at St. James's Palace in London, and if the location sounds familiar, that's because it's the same place where Meghan got baptized back in March. Not only that, but the service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, who baptized Meghan and officiated her nuptials to Prince Harry. Justin also christened Prince George in October 2013 and Princess Charlotte in July 2015.

Since his April birth, we've all been waiting for our next glimpse of Prince Louis. Where is he and when will we see him again? Thankfully, Prince William and Kate Middleton announced this week that baby Louis' royal christening will take place on Monday, July 9. Interestingly, the day of his christening is also another very important date for the royal family. The day of Prince Louis' christening, July 9, will also mark the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's engagement in 1947, which occured exactly 71 years earlier. The great-grandparents of Prince Louis had been engaged for at least a year before it was publicly announced. It seems Prince Louis is taking after his Aunt Meghan Markle in a very special way! The Duchess of Sussex's baptism took place three months ago, just before she married Prince Harry, and on July 9, the new royal baby's christening will take place where Meghan's did. Prince Louis' service will be at The Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace in London. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, baptized Meghan and now he will also christen the two-month-old. Welby is very special to the royal family, as he also officiated Meghan and Harry's nuptials as well as christened Prince George and Princess Charlotte. While Meghan, George, and soon Louis were all baptized at The Chapel Royal, Charlotte was actually christened at Sandringham’s St. Mary Magdalene church in Norfolk, the same place where the late Princess Diana was baptized. However, Louis won't have a private ceremony like Meghan did.

Prince Louis will be christened Monday, July 9 at The Chapel Royal within the grounds of St. James's Palace in London. Prince William and Kate Middleton announced the news on Wednesday, June 20. The young royal will be christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby—the same person who performed Princess Charlotte and Prince George's christenings. The Archbishop also officiated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding vows back in May. Big brother George was also christened at St. James's Palace. However, Charlotte was christened at St. Mary Magdalene Church at the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk. Per tradition, Louis will most likely...

“Late Late Show” host James Corden was among the many luminaries who attended last weekend’s Royal Wedding, though he nearly ruined it with an inopportune sneeze.
With the world watching the nuptials between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, including nearly 30 million in the U.S., Corden nearly sneezed when the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, asked the congregation if they knew of a reason why the couple should not lawfully marry.
“Please don’t sneeze, please don’t sneeze,” Corden said he kept telling himself. “I had to do one of those internal sneezes. I think I got away with it.”

Corden continued: “Imagine having such a beautiful ceremony, that the entire planet actually wants to watch your wedding video.”
After noting how exquisite the ceremony was, especially the flowers, Corden said they were the cause for the near-mishap.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Choose Groundbreaking American Bishop to Deliver Their Wedding Sermon
An American will play a big role in the United Kingdom's biggest wedding of the year! Kensington Palace has announced The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry, the 27th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, will give the address at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday, May 19. Curry — who's also the Episcopal Church's first African-American presiding bishop — will join Right Reverend David Conner, Dean of Windsor, and Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, at the Windsor Castle ceremony. "The love that has brought and will bind Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle together has its source and origin in God, and is the key to life and happiness," Curry said in a statement. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Welby, meanwhile, tweeted to say he was "thrilled" the 65-year-old was selected to deliver the sermon. "@PB_Curry is a brilliant pastor, stunning preacher, and someone with a great...

The royal wedding may be a week away, but Kensington Palace isn't done dishing out the announcements just yet. On May 11, the palace revealed that Chicago pastor Bishop Michael Bruce Curry will give an address at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials. The pastor will join the Dean of Windsor David Conner and Justin Welby the Archbishop of Canterbury, who conducted Meghan's baptism into the Church of England in March.
Is choosing an American pastor another break from tradition for Harry and Meghan? If it is, I'm on board with this one! While the couple doesn't know Michael personally, choosing the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church with roots in Chicago is a sweet nod toward Meghan's education and her alma mater Northwestern University.
Michael released a statement, saying: "The love that has brought and will bind Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle together has its source and origin in God,...
