Netflix’s next Italian originals will be pairs of series and feature films from the likes of Stefano Mordini, Alessandro Genovesi and Cristina Comencini.
The projects were unveiled at a See What’s Next event in Rome today, in front of several stars, directors and stars.
Tinny Andreatta, Vice President of Italian Content at Netflix, said the orders showed the streamer remains “committed to our investment in Italy and Italian stories with conviction, continuing our long-term commitment to the country and its creative community.” Netflix opened an Italian office in May last year.
Namely, pics are Cristina Comencini’s Il Treno dei Bambini and Fabbricante di Lacrime from director Alessandro Genovesi. TV shows comprise Storia della mia Famiglia and Adorazione.

Gaumont, the venerable French film and television group behind “The Intouchables” and “Lupin,” is launching in Italy with Marco Rosi, an industry veteran joining from Lux Vide, and a bullish first slate.
The company is already well-established in the U.S., the U.K. and Germany. Its expansion in Italy represents a logical step in Gaumont’s global strategy since the country ranks as a key European market and boasts a fertile ground for content creation.
Rosi, who was Lux Vide’s head of international co-productions and worked on prestige Italian series such as “Medici,” “Devils” and “Leonardo,” has been appointed general manager of Gaumont’s Italian operation. As such, he will lead a dedicated team across development and production and will report directly to Christophe Riandee, vice CEO of Gaumont. Federation Entertainment has partnered up with production company Paypermoon on “Don’t Leave Me” (“Non Mi Lasciare”), an Italian thriller series written by Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli, the pair behind “Gomorra,” and Gideon Yago.
Founded by Pascal Breton (pictured), Federation Entertainment is set to co-produce and handle international sales (except Italy’s first window rights) on the series which will comprise 8 one-hour episodes. “Don’t Leave Me” is being developed by Paypermoon Italia and Rai. Paypermoon will lead produce the series which will shoot in Venice and Rome during the fall and winter.
Besides Fasoli, Ravagli and Yago, the other writers on board for the series are Ivano Fachin, Giovanni Galassi and Tommaso Matano.
Set in Venice, “Don’t Leave Me” is a crime story following Elena Zonin, a deputy commissioner who is a single mother who has just returned with her son to Venice, her hometown, where she manages the homicide department.
