Sean Connery, Kevin Costner, Robert De Niro, Andy Garcia, and Charles Martin Smith in Os Intocáveis (1987)
The Untouchables, and the expensive set seen for just over three minutes
Sean Connery, Kevin Costner, Robert De Niro, Andy Garcia, and Charles Martin Smith in Os Intocáveis (1987)
The devil was in the detail when it came to 1987’s superb The Untouchables – and that included the suite where Robert De Niro’s Al Capone lived.

With a price tag of $25m in an era when that felt like a reasonable amount of money for a major Hollywood studio to spend, Paramount Pictures’ 1987 hit The Untouchables was really something of a gamble.

>Granted, it was a gamble mitigated by the presence of some star wattage. Still, Robert De Niro in the role of Al Capone was a man more known for attracting strong critical notices than packing the house out. Sean Connery meanwhile was far from at the height of his commercial pulling powers.

Throw in the fact that director Brian De Palma was desperately needing a hit after a run of box office disappointments and that the picture’s star – Kevin Costner – was pretty much an unknown at this stage,...

Keanu Reeves To Begin Filming John Wick 2 This Fall
Good news for fans of the 2014 film John Wick, which featured Keanu Reeves as a “retired” hitman out for revenge. Thunder Road pictures just announced that the sequel (working title of John Wick 2) will begin filming later this year. Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment will handle worldwide distribution.

Reeves is scheduled to make a return as the titular character although no other casting announcements are available at this time. David Leitch and Chad Stahelski are also scheduled to return as co-directors of the film. Derek Kolstad has once again asked to pen the screenplay.

The original film was made for a mere $20 million, a modest budget for a Hollywood action picture, and made over $78 million worldwide. That return on investment plus strong results in video and on-demand sales helped make the decision for a sequel to be an easy one.

For Reeves, this won’t mark his first or last entry...

Chad Stahelski and David Leitch Talk John Wick, the Changing Color Palette of the Film, the Action Set Pieces, the Keanu Reeves-Led John Rain TV Series, and More
Now playing in theaters is John Wick. As I've said again and again...I loved this movie. In the film, Keanu Reeves stars as an ex-hitman who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. Filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch have crafted a fantastic action movie that’s absolutely worth your time and money. While you might not know their names, you’ve definitely seen their awesome work in films like Speed Racer, The Bourne Legacy, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and tons of others. On some of what I just mentioned they did the stunts, and on some they directed second unit (which means they directed a lot of the action). In addition to the films I just mentioned, they run 87eleven, which is the premiere action design team in Hollywood. When an actor needs to be trained for an action role,...

Keanu Reeves Talks John Wick, the Action Sequences, if He’ll Direct Again, the John Rain TV Series, Eli Roth’s Knock Knock, and More
As I've said again and again on Twitter and on the site, I absolutely loved John Wick. Filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch have crafted a fantastic action thriller that's absolutely worth your time and money. When I recently hosted a screening in NYC, there were plenty of laughs, gasps, and tons of applause during the incredible action set pieces. In the film, Keanu Reeves stars as an ex-hitman who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. Trust me, if you like action movies, this is a must see film. For more on John Wick, watch this trailer, see Evan shoot people in the face, and here's all our previous coverage. Last week in New York City I sat down with Keanu Reeves for an extended interview. He talked about how he got involved in the film, script changes, the challenge of shooting the various action sequences,...

John Wick Directors Talk John Rain TV Series Starring Keanu Reeves; Planned as 10-Episode Seasons That Will Bring an Unseen Level of Action to TV
Outside of the film festival circuit, it’s rare that a movie kind of comes out of nowhere to suddenly pop up on everyone's radar, because in this day and age nearly every project is being tracked by someone during development or production. But that’s kind of what happened with John Wick, the upcoming Keanu Reeves-fronted revenge thriller that is drawing enthusiastically positive notices from early screenings. Stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and David Leitch make their directorial debut on the film, drawing from their extensive experience in the stunt world on films ranging from 300 to Speed Racer. I imagine the duo will be enjoying heavy interest about upcoming projects once John Wick opens in theaters on October 24th, but they actually already have one high profile project in active development: a TV series adaptation of Barry Eisler’s John Rain book series Rain, starring Reeves, that they will produce.

The plot will focus on a bid to escape ‘the mundane reality of his life,’ centred on a young male protagonist who will flee into ‘an exciting virtual reality world’ - the eponymous New Angeles. Destiny, mystery and long-sought answers await down the rabbit hole, we’re told. Despite some clickbait titles going around,...

Shane Salerno ("Savages," "Avatar 4") is writing the script about the elite commando dude, but production will only start once his work on James Cameron's series is done. Keanu Reeves to star in, and produce, action series Rain
Assassin novel adaptation Rain will see Keanu Reeves on both sides of the camera.

Making a bit of a career shift, former Neo actor Keanu Reeves is now executive-producing his own action TV series Rain for Slingshot Global Media.

Described as a ‘globe-trotting action drama,’ Rain is an adaptation on the best-selling book series by Barry Eisler of the same name. A 2009 feature film based on the same material, Rain Fall, has already been produced, but didn't make much of a - ready for it? - splash. Ahem.

Reeves will play the eponymous anti-hero John Rain, who in the books is a half-Japanese, half-American former-soldier-turned-assassin.

Rain is a freelance killer-for-hire, who lives by the rules that he’ll kill anyone, as long as they fit these rules: 'No women or children', 'no secondary team working separately on Rain's project' and 'Principal actors only' (as in: no hits on family members...

Keanu Reeves is heading to television - and so is 'The Devil's Advocate'
Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves is the latest movie star to set his sights on the small screen. The "47 Ronin" star is taking on his first major TV role with an adaptation of Barry Eisler's bestselling "Rain" book series, distributor and executive-producer Slingshot Global Media announced today. Reeves will produce and star in the project, a "globetrotting action drama" series centering on John Rain, a half-Japanese, half-American assassin who specializes in executing hits that make death look accidental. Unsurprisingly, Rain's chosen profession also serves as a barrier to forming close personal connections - a tension that will undoubtedly serve as a thematic crux of the new series. “As a huge fan of Barry’s work, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his iconic character and incredible world to life,” said Reeves in a statement. “I’m looking forward to partnering with Slingshot on my first series, and reteaming with [producers] Chad...

Keanu Reeves is aiming to take his talents to the small screen. Slingshot Global Media announced today that Reeves is attached to star in and executive produce Rain, a TV series adaptation of author Barry Eisler’s John Rain book series. Described as “a globe-trotting action drama”, the story revolves around a half-Japanese, half-American assassin who specializes in making his marks look like they died from natural causes. This is Reeves’ first major starring role in a TV show, and the press release notes that Rain is planned as “limited-run programming”. I guess you could say Keanu Reeves is coming out of the rain and into, er, the rain? (Or something like that.) John Rain, that is.
