Glen Powell has been just about everywhere lately, but chances are you might not recognize him in his latest role as Chad Powers. Hulu has dropped the first quick teaser for the upcoming half-hour comedy series, which is based on the character created by Eli Manning for his ESPN+ docuseries Eli’s Places. Powell looks damn near unrecognizable in the role, complete with a smattering of freckles and a wispy mustache.

The official description for the series reads: “When bad behavior nukes hotshot Qb Russ Holliday’s (Powell) college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.” Production on the series has now officially started production.

Chad Powers comes from co-creators and executive producers Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, with Eli Manning serving as executive producer alongside Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, and ESPN. Powell also co-wrote the pilot episode with Waldron.

Glen Powell has mastered the art of embodying the charming leading man. 2023's "Anyone But You" — a rom-com loosely based on William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" — was a surprise mega-hit that helped fast-track Powell and his co-star Sidney Sweeney's careers. Since then, Powell has co-written and starred in Richard Linklater's "Hit Man," where the actor showcased his magnetic star power in impressively entertaining vignettes. The more recent "Twisters," a sequel to the '90s blockbuster "Twister," also saw Powell playing the charismatic lead, in this case the meteorologist and storm chaser Tyler Owens (who's cheekily dubbed the Tornado Wrangler).

Even when Powell isn't donning the leading man suit, he is unforgettable, like in "Top Gun: Maverick," in which he played the skilled but cocky Hangman, a rival to Miles Teller's Rooster. A quick look at the actor's filmography makes it clear that his superstardom is hard-earned.

Twisters, Glen Powell’s sequel to Twister, has broken a very important record. After premiering on Peacock 14 days ago, the film has become the streamer’s most-watched film. Christopher Nolan’s Academy Award-winning biographical drama Oppenheimer previously held the record, but Powell’s tornado thriller is one of the biggest films of the year and has outperformed the historical biopic on this side of the streaming universe. Premiering in July of this year, the summer movie made over $371 million at the box office from a $155 million production budget. The critical response has been good as well, with critics giving it a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

One of the better films in this year’s crop of summer blockbuster movies has proven to be the belated sequel Twisters. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung – who spoke to us about it here – and starring Daisy Edgar Jones, Anthony Ramos and Glen Powell, the movie was a big hit in the US, less so outside of America.

Still, little doubt that Twisters is going to offer a healthy outing for any half decent home cinema system, and the chance to put the wind up your equipment (so to speak) arrives in October.

Twisters is getting a full physical media release, with DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray options heading our way. All three of those are available from 14th October 2024 in the UK.

During this long, hot, languishing summer, I have come to believe in one thing and one thing only: seeing Twisters in 4Dx. The Oklahoma-set film, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, is about a 7/10 movie in 2D – a blockbuster sequel of sorts to the 1996 disaster flick, starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones as tornado chasers with modest chemistry. But in the immersive theatrical format known as 4Dx, in which viewers are buffeted with literal wind and rain, Twisters becomes an unmissable 10/10 experience.

Lane told ComicBookMovie when asked if a follow-up had been discussed. The actor also shared her hopes for her character if a sequel was eventually given the green light. "I don't know. Very curious.
