The original "Night Court" ran for 193 episodes over nine seasons. It was part of a magical Thursday-night lineup of sitcoms -- along with "Family Ties," "The Cosby Show," and "Cheers" -- that dominated the popular consciousness throughout the 1980s. "Night Court" was considered "the weird one" of that lineup, but it was no less popular, earning star John Larroquette four Emmys before he intentionally withdrew himself from consideration. Since its cancelation in 1992, "Night Court" has remained beloved by the people who initially saw it, and subsequent reruns have grown a few new fans along the way.
Sometime in 2019 or 2020, however, a revival of "Night Court" was floated to NBC, and they began developing the new series that debuted on their network in 2023. The "Night Court" revival saw the return of Larroquette as Dan Fielding, the once-lascivious-now-humbled prosecutor who served the night shifts at the Manhattan Criminal Court. The revival of Night Court on NBC has actress Melissa Rauch of The Big Bang Theory pick up the gavel at the courthouse as the daughter of Harry Stone. “She’s very much a country girl and a country mouse who is now trying to become a city mouse. That is not a comparison to my size, though accurate,” joked Rauch in an interview with Deadline ahead of the show’s series premiere in January.

There’s a new order in the court: Kapil Talwalkar, who played court clerk Neil on NBC’s Night Court, will not return for the upcoming Season 2, TVLine has confirmed.
A source tells TVLine that the show wanted to take things in a different direction creatively, with lots of different characters and personalities, more in the vein of the original Night Court. But the source emphasizes that the cast and producers are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Talwalkar, and he will always be a part of the Night Court family.

“Americanish,” billed as the first romantic comedy about Muslims helmed by a Muslim-American woman, is coming very soon to a theater (potentially) near you.
TheWrap exclusively debuted the trailer for Inam Zawahry’s directorial effort in May 2021. The film will debut in theaters in California and Arizona on Oct. 6 prior to its VOD premiere on Nov. 14. Sony Pictures International picked up the distribution rights in January of this year after a successful festival run.
Inspired by Aizzah Fatima’s critically acclaimed one-woman show “Dirty Paki Lingerie,” the picture first played at the CAAMFest, which is the largest Asian American film festival in the nation. It won the Audience Award and has since won 25 festival awards prior to the acquisition.
Zawahry spoke to TheWrap previously, when the trailer debuted, and noted that “What’s really important about this film is that is shows that American Muslim women are not a monolith...

For the first season finale, NBC’s “Night Court” revival treated fans to the all too brief return of a beloved character (and cast member) from the original series: Former bailiff Roz, played of course by Marsha Warfield.
“The Honorable Dan Fielding Part 2” continues from last week’s episode, when Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) accepts a chance to return to his home state of Louisiana to become a judge. In Tuesday’s season finale, he’s presiding over a case involving a fight during a bachelorette party in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It seems the bride got arrested and when she’s hauled into court, it turns out to be Fielding’s old “Night Court” coworker, Roz.
Roz can hardly believe Dan is a judge now and asks to be taken back to jail rather than deal with him. And that’s it. Short and sweet, but surely...

Sitcoms do a funny thing -- no pun intended -- when they get things right. They make us care.
Night Court Season 1 Episode 15 doesn't surprise us, but it manages to innovate within the format's parameters.
With a finale on the horizon, character exits are expected, but I don't think Gurgs going to Scotland Yard was on anyone's Binga card.
She's demonstrated savant tendencies throughout her hijinks and is easily the most chaotic character on the team in terms of objectives and distractibility.
But she's always guided by a good heart and a keen -- if scattered -- intellect.
I'm not sure what Olivia is angling at by schmoozing Emily since I'm pretty sure her law credentials won't transfer to the UK.
Maybe having a barrister on her contacts list is a bucket list item? Or she'd like to snag one of those wigs.
Gurgs: She’s a lawyer visiting from England.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Night Court Season 1 Episode 12, “When Abby Met Gabby.”] Melissa Villaseñor loves being silly. To that end, appearing on NBC‘s Night Court reboot was a no-brainer. The Saturday Night Live alum played Gabby in the Tuesday, April 25 installment of the sitcom, and like much of Night Court‘s proceedings, the premise of the episode was silly in and of itself. When court clerk Neil’s (Kapil Talwalkar) high school crush, Gabby, appeared at the Manhattan court to finalize her divorce, Abby (Melissa Rauch) and Olivia (India de Beaufort) saw this as the perfect opportunity to nip Neil’s crush on Abby in the bud. As it turns out, Neil has a type. Abby and Gabby (a dentist) are two peas in a pod, their personalities exhibiting the same kind of quirk, goofiness, and positivity. Eventually, Abby feared that she and Gabby may have a little too much in common. Are...

It’s a great time to love vintage TV. Not only can you stream almost every show, but a lot of the great shows are back with their original casts. Fuller House sort of started the ball rolling with other ‘80s and ‘90s TV sitcoms looking for a revival.

Melissa Rauch, who both stars on and produces the show, particularly loves the courtroom set, especially since it’s the place where it’s most likely the entire cast will be doing scenes together. NBC is heading back to a crazy court for the 2023-24 television season. The peacock network has renewed the new Night Court series for a second season. Only four episodes of the first season have aired thus far.
A workplace comedy series, the Night Court TV show stars Melissa Rauch, India de Beaufort, Kapil Talwalkar, Lacretta, and John Larroquette. The new story follows Abby Stone (Rauch), a judge following in the footsteps of her revered late father, Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson). She takes on the challenge of overseeing the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court, just as he did. To bring order and dignity to the court, she enlists former night court district attorney Dan Fielding (Larroquette) to serve as the court’s public defender. Others on the team include Olivia (De Beaufort), the...

Night Court will remain in session on NBC.
NBC renewed the hit comedy for a second season today.
Although the ratings have dipped from the revival's premiere, they're still pretty impressive.
Night Court stars Melissa Rauch as unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Harry Stone.
Abby follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding.
Fielding is played by the always-impressive John Larroquette, offering significant laughs that haven't changed since the series' initial run.
In addition to Rauch and Larroquette, Night Court also features India de Beaufort, Kapil Talwalkar, and Lacretta.
"It’s so rewarding to have audiences respond and return to a show in which they have such incredibly warm feelings, and, more broadly, it’s...

“Night Court” is going back into session — again. The NBC sitcom, and sequel to the popular ’80s series of the same name, has been renewed for a second season at the network.
The news comes shortly after the series premiered to a surprisingly sizable audience on January 17. The first season has thus far aired four episodes of 13 episodes; the fifth scheduled for February 7.
“It’s so rewarding to have audiences respond and return to a show in which they have such incredibly warm feelings, and, more broadly, it’s testament to how broadcast is still a huge driver of communal viewing,” Lisa Katz, president of Scripted Content at NBCUniversal Television, said in a statement on Thursday. “A huge thank you to our studio partners, a wonderful cast, incredibly talented writers and producers, and a crew that has transformed a lower Manhattan courtroom into a true family.”
