“We made the show, but you fans made it worthwhile.” Last night, Wgn America’s Salem came to an end after three seasons, and to thank the diehard fans of the show, series creators Adam Simon and Brannon Braga share their heartfelt thoughts in a new video made especially for the Heathens.
“The third season of “Salem” dawns with the triumph of the witches’ plan to remake the New World by bringing the devil to earth and making Salem his capital. But the devil is a liar, and instead of a New World free from murderous Puritan hypocrisy, his own plan will bring nothing but death and slavery with the ultimate aim of leading humanity to destroy itself. And there’s only one person on earth who can beat the devil — the very witch that birthed him, his mother, Mary Sibley. The only problem is—she’s dead. Or is she?...

Secrets? Who needs secrets?! We're talking about the town of Salem here.
On Salem Season 3 Episode 9, Pandora must have opened a box because every secret, alliance and evil was exposed and sent out into the world. It is (mostly) all out in the open at this point heading into our series finale. It was...glorious.
We need to discuss the biggest revelation out of the gate: Cotton finding Gloriana! It took a few episodes, but we got to this key moment.
Season one was nearly three years ago (that's 2014!), and I forgot how much Cotton truly cared for her. His emotions with finally being reunited together and then his sadness when she didn't remember him was such a heartbreaking scene. It's not how you'd want them reunited.
Does anyone else think Cotton wasn't angry enough? Gloriana is supposedly The woman he truly loves – the first, in fact, we're introduced to.

Did that just happen?!
We need to take a moment to breathe and process the development.
They actually did it...
On Salem Season 3 Episode 7, the dark lord was quite literally ripped apart at the seams in one of the best moments of the series. Their biggest enemy is perhaps dead. It was amazing!
Kudos to the special effects team and writers on Salem; this was a surprising curve ball in the final four episodes. I did not expect this twist yet. Did you?
Everything featured had the makings of a great climax. The location of the woods paired with the dark and dreary vibe added to the tension. And once the vines started grabbing him and ripping him apart, it worked perfectly. The prosthetics almost looked realistic.
Dark Lord: You think a few rotten vines can hold me?
Essex Elder: Once, you were the source of Mary's power. Not anymore!

If there is one thing we learned tonight on Salem Season 3 Episode 5, the dark lord has a serious case of an Oedipus complex. Poor Mary!
As if things couldn't get any worse for our Queen Witch, she has to deal with this bombshell by her "somewhat-dead-totally-evil" son. This offer isn't exactly surprising in hindsight — the dark lord has been hinting at his love for her for a while. Still, his choice of Mary must stem from a mysterious place.
Dark Lord: And to fulfill the promise of your existence.
Mary: I do not understand.
Dark Lord: My father took on a suit of flesh, he required two Marys -- one to birth him and one to love him. But I only need one Mary. You...my mother...and my bride.

Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery) is in a bad way on a white-knuckler episode of Salem this week, as she writhes in bed in a bizarre occultist detoxing. It comes after she’s been stripped of her witch powers by her son Little John aka The Devil (Oliver Bell) who gloats over her helpless state. The show has successfully introduced a truly scary additional character after last episode’s meeting with Marilyn Manson’s Thomas Dinley, the sicko barber slash surgeon. The rocker’s version of a straight-laced Puritan academic is well done. But the character we refer to as being super creepy is the...read more...

Is a witch still a "witch" even if she has no powers? That's a question I, and maybe even the mother witch, wants answered.
The Mary Sibley we know and love is no more. On Salem Season 3 Episode 3, we watched as she paid the ultimate price for defying the dark lord: he stripped her of all her powers. She's barely back from the dead and already she's changed.

Warning: Spoilers For Westworld Ahead. How old is Robert Ford? It’s a question that has been plaguing me since Anthony Hopkins first appeared on screen, talking to the broken down host Old Bill (Michael Wincott), in the Westworld premiere. The confusion has only deepened with each successive piece of information revealed about Ford’s past. We know Sir Anthony himself is 78, but that means little and less in a future where we’ve cured any and all ailments that currently control the human population. But now that we know the child robot (Oliver Bell) is indeed a young version of Ford, I’m more convinced than ever that the creator of Westworld is older than he appears. There are many incongruities to Robert Ford’s life. The fact his robot family is dressed in ‘ye olden’ clothes despite little chance* of them running into other guests or hosts. Ford...

No surprise, gothic rocker Marilyn Manson felt right at home on the set of Wgn America’s period thriller “Salem.”
The show, which returns for its third season on Wednesday night, adds several new characters this season – including Manson as the sadistic barber/surgeon Thomas Dinley. The set for Dinley’s office includes strange, dangerous-looking surgical instruments and bottles of formaldehyde with things floating in it.
“He walked in and said, ‘Oh, I’ve got that at home, I’ve got that at home,'” said executive producer Brannon Braga. “He fit right in.”
Manson (who also produced the show’s theme song) plays a character based on the real-life 17th century barbers who would also slice patients open for surgery. “He’s kind of a cross between Vidal Sassoon and Jack the Ripper,” Braga said. “There’s a little Sweeney Todd in there. He’s a human aligned with the witches,...

We are, at the time of writing, one week shy from October and with it, the beginning of Halloween celebrations across the globe. Such festive activities often feed into a studio’s scheduling, explaining why there’s practically always some form of Blumhouse horror pic crowding up theaters year in, year out.
Hopping aboard that gravy train this year is Wgn America, after conjuring up a new trailer for Salem season 3 during the week. Hatched by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, the network’s horror series is veering into an all-new chapter that “dawns with the triumph of the witches’ plan to remake the New World by bringing the devil to earth and making Salem his capital. But the devil is a liar, and instead of a New World free from murderous Puritan hypocrisy, his own plan will bring nothing but death and slavery with the ultimate aim of leading humanity to destroy itself.

Take a look at the landscape of popular network television and what do you see? A whole lotta supernatural, that’s what. If it’s not zombies being mowed down in The Walking Dead, or playfully reinvented in iZombie, there’s plenty of otherworldly characters tackling monsters in Supernatural, Penny Dreadful and Sleepy Hollow.
