Anyone for monkey baseball? We examine the weird and wonderful unmade scripts of the Planet Of The Apes series
In 2006, screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver were inspired by footage of domesticated chimpanzees who were unable to adjust to our lifestyles to write a sci-fi horror spec script that they called Genesis. Apparently, it was a while before the two of them realised that they were writing a Planet Of The Apes movie.
Their resultant pitch to 20th Century Fox led to 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, the excellent, emotional prequel/reboot of the franchise that led to 2014's Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and recent trilogy topper, War For The Planet Of The Apes. Together, the three films take Caesar from domestication to domination and have been huge critical and financial hits for the studio.

Last summer it was announced that Netflix ordered a remake of the classic 1965 sci-fi series Lost in Space. Deadline is now reporting that Parker Posey (Dazed and Confused, Best in Show, Portlandia, Mascots) has signed on to co-star in the series. She is set to play Dr. Smith in the series, who was previously played by Jonathan Harris in the original series. Then Gary Oldman played the character in the 1998 feature film. *Spoiler Warning* *Danger, Will Robinson* Sausage Party will probably go down with the likes of Swiss Army Man as one of the most Wtf movies of the year. The entire thing from beginning to end was one strange, vulgar, hilarious, sexually devious romp, all involving animated grocery items. But one of the most surprising moments of the movie was the ending in which the mystical Firewater (Bill Hader)... Read More...

Treasure Island prequel series Black Sails may be preparing to wind down with a fourth and final season over at Starz, but leading man Toby Stephens has already secured his future on the small-screen via Legendary TV and Netflix’s rebooted Lost in Space.
Deadline has the scoop, confirming that Maxwell Jenkins of Sense8 fame has also landed the role of Will Robinson in the 10-episode series. Stephens, meanwhile, will pilot the ship as brilliant astrophysicist and commander John Robinson. At the time of writing, Taylor Russell is the only other star of note attached to Lost in Space for now, after climbing aboard to portray Robinsons’ eldest daughter Judy some months ago.

Danger, Will Robinson! Irwin Allen’s legendary Sci-Fi property returns! Before being prematurely canceled during its third season, Lost In Space had several screenplays lined up and ready to film. These are those lost episodes, adapted for comics from screenwriter Carey Wilber’s original teleplays! First up is “The Curious Galactics,” a three-part tale that sends John Robinson, Will Robinson, and Major Don West from a run-of-the-mill radar scouting mission into a potentially deadly alien maze.
Written by Carey Wilber, adapted by FM’s own Holly Interlandi, illustrated by Kostas Pantoulas, and colored by Patrick McEvoy, Irwin Allen’S Lost In Space: The Lost Adventures #1 is now available in comic stores everywhere, as well as on CaptainCo.com — where all four variant covers are available — and Comixology. Okay, so I’m late to the party. Again. I finally went to see Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens this last week after about a gazillion other folks had seen it (it has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide).
I’m not an average Sw fan. I’d labored in Uncle George’s sandbox for about a decade, writing Star Wars comics for Dark Horse. So I know the territory pretty well. As I’ve noted elsewhere, I was a fan from before the first movie came out, as I’d read the novel of the movie.

It's time for a blast from the past.
The classic sci-fi TV show Lost in Space aired its first episode 50 years ago Tuesday, with the series introducing the world to the Robinson family, a group of travelers on a mission in a futuristic 1997 to found a colony in deep space.
The campy CBS series is perhaps best remembered for this catchphrase spoken by the family robot to one of the kids: "Danger, Will Robinson!" After its 1965 debut, the series went on to air for three seasons on CBS and spawned a 1998 big screen remake starring Matt LeBlanc and Heather Graham.

Much as the show has gone down in history as something of a goof, you might be surprised at how much future shows owe to this one, and not just by way of carving out a bit of cultural popularity for the sci-fi genre.

Some of the greatest (or at least heavily favored) American television shows got the big screen treatment when they were selected to have their small screen following turn into a cinematic experience. Unfortunately, for every beloved nostalgic television show that translated successfully in movie theaters (The Brady Bunch Movie, Star Trek, Batman, etc.) there are boob tube stinkers that overtake the good crop. Sure, there are middle-of-the-road movie adaptations of television programs that have a mixed bag reception (1997’s Leave It To Beaver, 1987’s Dragnet, 2012’s Dark Shadows, etc.). Nevertheless, it is always the unflattering fare that receive the bulk of the attention (do you register, 1999’s The Wild, Wild West ?).
In Boob on the Tube: Top Ten Worst Movie Adaptations of TV Shows we will take a look at the top ten televised offenders that dared to venture into cinema’s stratosphere only to end up floating down shamefully...

Gone is the suave and debonair Dr. Watson persona we have come to love and enjoy – just in case you were wondering going in – as Jude Law brings a Real-man vibe playing the stoic and determined captain in his latest film – Black Sea.
After being a part of the sea for too many years to count, Robinson (Jude Law) is canned from his position at a shipping yard, and isn’t sure at all what his next move should be.
Lost and fumbling through life since his divorce, what is a man to do with no family in his life and now no profession or income? When Robinson is approached to take on an undercover illegal heist of a Russian sub buried in the Black Sea that is supposedly Full Of Gold – he jumps at the opportunity.

Ouija, another micro-budget pic from Blumhouse Prods., is likely to take the weekend, despite Universal keeping this one away from the critics (Danger, Will Robinson!). It opens tonight at 8 Pm in over 2,000 theaters before its Friday run of 2,857. Universal is thinking it could do high-teens, but the horror crowd comes out in force the first weekend and this one is appealing to teen girls and the Hispanic and African American sectors which tend to come out in groups to see films. Good news for this one, so if that happens, figure it could do anywhere from $20M-$24M. The audiences for horror films always seem to come out in force and then the drop-off comes the second weekend. But this second weekend will be Halloween.

A pop-culture touchstone, a nearly all-purpose metaphor and one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises of the Seventies and beyond, the Planet of the Apes films do what all good what-if fantasies should do: hold up a mirror to humanity and reflect our own conflicts, issues and failings back to us through a wildly outrageous premise. The original 1968 movie mixes satire, social commentary, action and suspense, capped by a first-rate twist at the end. ("Damn you, damn you all to hell!")

It's a big morning for videogame movie news. Along with the announcement of a writer for the new Tomb Raider film, we've also got games studio Ubisoft revealing that big screen adaptations are in the works for Far Cry, Watch Dogs and the Rabbids. This follows hot on the heels of the story from earlier this week that Michael Bay will be overseeing a cinema version of Tom Clancy and Ubisoft's Ghost Recon. Assassin's Creed (with Michael Fassbender) and Splinter Cell (with Tom Hardy) have also both been in the works for some time. Danger of photosensitive epilepsy, Will Robinson. For those unacquainted, Far Cry is a series of first-person shooters, with each instalment taking its own narrative route. The first was about a special forces agent on the trail of a missing journalist; the second was about hunting terrorist The Jackal; and the third was about an American tourist...

On Sunday I published an article about the greatest astronauts in movie history. That article got me thinking about some of the outstanding astronauts in television history. Surprisingly, there have been quite a few TV series featuring astronauts as the main character.
Many of the astronauts you’ll find in this article appeared in shows that ran just one or two seasons, so you might not have seen them. Some of these shows were pretty decent and it’s unfortunate they were as short-lived as they were.
For this article I’m not using astronauts from shows such as Star Trek and Firefly. As I stated in my article on movie astronauts, if a person departs our home solar system he becomes a spacefarer and not just an astronaut. Besides, how boring would this article be if it was filled with Captain Kirk, Deanna Troi, Worf, Will Robinson, and Captain Picard?...

As a new year dawns, a tribute to those we've lost in the year now ending is merited ... and in 2012, those sad milestones have encompassed some of the most popular personalities in television history.
Andy Griffith: The actor-producer who put Mayberry on the map forever will be remembered as one of television's most genial personalities, also extending to his run as wily lawyer Matlock.
Dick Clark: The number of music stars who owe at least part of their success to the "American Bandstand" maestro is incalculable. Thanks to him, people also enjoy "New Year's Rockin' Eve," receive American Music Awards and have a greater appreciation of bloopers. Here's a "so long" salute to you, Dick.
Larry Hagman: The truly unfortunate irony of the veteran actor's recent death is that he was just starting his second round of "Dallas" success as master schemer J.R. Ewing. He'll also...

Friday is the end of the world, at least if you believe the mysticism that surrounds the final date of the centuries-old Mayan calendar.
Indeed, there's some talk of prepping for doomsday, but America's leading talker on UFOs and unexplained phenomena won't be addressing his millions of followers from a subterranean bunker.
In fact, he's pretty sure life will go on, even if it will be filled with controversy over secret government files on what our leaders truly know about extraterrestrial visitations.
"I'm a staunch believer that, no matter what kind of a roller-coaster of life we may be on, we're gonna be here. It's not going to be rosy or a smooth ride, but we're gonna make it and one of the things I always say is we're in this together, no matter what," said George Noory, host of "Coast to Coast Am," the most listened to overnight radio program in North America,...
