The life of author and activist Eve Adams, an early chronicler of LGBTQ people in New York City, will be the subject of a TV drama in the works at Universal Television.
Gabe Dunn (Big Mouth) and Arika Lisanne Mittman (La Brea, The Irrational) are developing a drama based on The Daring Life and Dangerous Times of Eve Adams, a biography by historian Jonathan Ned Katz. Dunn will write the script and executive produce with Mittman and Matt Sadeghian; Katz is a consulting producer.
An immigrant from Poland, Adams (born Chawa Zloczewer) founded a literary salon and tearoom in Greenwich Village in the mid-1920s. The tearoom, known as Eve’s Hangout, was the first openly lesbian spot in the city. Adams also published the book Lesbian Love, a series of vignettes about women she had known and what Katz believes to be the first use of the word lesbian...

Last year at the Sundance Film Festival, YouTube hosted a three-day Creators Intensive -- a storytelling workshop attended by 10 influencers including Anna Akana, The Gregory Brothers, and sWooZie to develop new programming for a possible first-look deal. Writers Mara Brock Akil, Aline Brosh McKenna, and Stephen Falk served as mentors at the Intensive, which took place at both Sundance and the YouTube Space L.A.

Some well-known SourceFed team members have branched out from the news network to create their own channel. Bree Essrig, Matt Lieberman, and Steve Zaragoza launched the sketch comedy YouTube channel Nuclear Family on January 6, 2015.
Created in conjunction with Discovery Digital Networks, Nuclear Family will host parodies, humor segments, and musical comedy about recent pop culture, political, and cultural news. Segments will also include special guests like Allison Raskin and Gaby Dunn of the Just Between Us web series. All Nuclear Family content will live exclusively on YouTube for three days before moving to other platforms. The first sketch on Nuclear Family, a spoof video dubbed “People Try Heroin for the First Time,” features Essrig, Lieberman, Jeremy Azevedo, and Jessica Amal as two couples trying out the schedule 1 drug (but not for real).
"I feel like Nuclear Family will be something you’ve never really seen before on YouTube,” said Zaragoza in a release.

Two years ago, we published an article equating the then-current state of the online video industry to the Gold Rush. Two years later, there’s still plenty of money to be found on websites like YouTube, but many successful YouTube are struggling to see a livable portion it. In an article she wrote for Fusion, Gaby Dunn--who co-hosts the web series Just Between Us with her friend Allison Raskin--lays out the financial hardships she has experienced since starting her YouTube channel about two years ago.
On the surface, Dunn seems like she should be able to profit from her YouTube business. Just Between Us has more than 500,000 subscribers, its new videos often achieve several hundred thousand views, and its informal, vlog style seems like it would be inexpensive to produce. And yet, despite these factors, Dunn is struggling. “It’s not enough to live, and its influx is unpredictable,...
