John Wick Franchise Director Reportedly Tapped to Direct Ill-Fated Blade Reboot
Image
The Blade reboot could be led by the director of another franchise with a badass lead character as the ill-fated Marvel Cinematic Universe looks to get back on track. Reports claim John Wick franchise helmer Chad Stahelski is the latest filmmaker to take the reins of the long-gestating blockbuster.

According to Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider, Marvel has enlisted Stahelski to become the Blade reboot's third director since its 2019 announcement. Michael Green and Eric Pearson penned the latest draft of the film, with Stahelski tapped to direct as he's set to helm the Henry Cavill-led Highlander reboot and potentially John Wick 5 at Lionsgate.

Stahelski was reportedly chosen after Marvel passed on another director to lead Blade 4. Cary Fukunaga, who directed the most recent James Bond entry, No Time to Die, was reportedly in line for the job late last year. However, Sneider claims Fukunaga's reputation may have cost him the job.

As soon as you hear their celestial harmonies, you need to find them.

If you happened to be looking for them on a cold afternoon in February 2024, you would have found the band of four siblings sitting in the Rolling Stone offices, strumming acoustic guitars. Their layered voices reverberated against the glass walls, completely transforming the space into an ethereal stage of their own. With each note, they instantly captivated anyone who walked by. They were introducing themselves as Infinity Song — and they were about to have a banner year.

Edward Berger, hot from his double-whammy Best Film and Outstanding British Film wins for Conclave at the Ee BAFTA Film Awards, wanted to stop by the Searchlight after-party at Soho House’s Greek Street to laud Rising Star winner David Jonsson.

“He’s not a show-off,” an impressed Berger tells me after greeting Jonsson.

“[It] tells you a lot. Feet on the ground, incredibly laid back and I wanted to congratulate him,” Berger adds as he watches the Rye Lane and Alien: Romulus actor being feted by a group that included Olivia Homan, his agent at United Talent, and Ellie Norton his publicist at Track Publicity.

Berger notes that he was taken by a comment Jonsson made during his acceptance speech.

“Star? I don’t know, but rising, I guess,” was the Jonsson line that Berger favored.

The Blade reboot continues to be the center of speculation as constant delays and creative changes keep sparking rumors that the Marvel Cinematic Universe film may never see the light of day. However, MCU star Michael B. Jordan believes the anticipated remake will overcome its "tough" situation and make it to theaters.

After ‘Till’ Thrust Her Into the Oscar Race, Danielle Deadwyler Owns ‘The Piano Lesson’
Image
Danielle Deadwyler almost reached the Oscar circle in 2023 with her extraordinary performance as a grieving mother in “Till.” But it was one of those tough-sit dramas that just wasn’t seen by enough people. This time, Netflix is behind her next likely awards contender, “The Piano Lesson”. The film is the third Denzel Washington-produced August Wilson adaptation after “Fences” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” — and arguably the best so far.

Directed by Malcolm Washington in his debut, the movie is set in Pittsburgh (per usual) and co-stars John David Washington as the brother who urgently tries to persuade his sister Berniece (Deadwyler) to sell their family inheritance, a giant piano engraved with the faces of their ancestors, and Samuel L. Jackson as their bemused uncle, watching and commenting on the proceedings.

All are superb, but Deadwyler stands out, not only for her powerful female energy among all the men in the house,...

‘Sing Sing’ Breakout Clarence Maclin on Oscar Buzz, If He’s Playing Himself, and Why Prison Theater Programs ‘Weren’t Just Art, They Were Survival’
Image
It’s a Friday afternoon in Middleburg, Virginia. Clarence Maclin has just flown in to participate in a conversation celebrating the following day, during which he will receive the Impact Award along with his co-star Colman Domingo. Immediately after, he’s flying to L.A. to attend the exclusive Academy Museum gala. As a person who grew up in the tough streets of New York City, being in the same space as A-listers such as Demi Moore, Kerry Washington, Tyler Perry and Sheryl Lee Ralph (all of which he took selfies with) can bring some understandable “imposter syndrome.”

Quite an outcome for someone who was incarcerated for 10 years and is now garnering Oscar buzz for his powerhouse performance in “Sing Sing” — which he also co-wrote.

Maclin’s journey to Hollywood involves transformation, resilience and storytelling. After serving over a decade in prison, Maclin co-wrote and stars in Greg Kwedar’s powerful “Sing Sing,...

Wesley Snipes in Blade: Cazador de vampiros (1998)
Blade | Disney removes reboot from schedule, adds Predator: Badlands
Wesley Snipes in Blade: Cazador de vampiros (1998)
Marvel Studios’ troubled Blade reboot won’t be arriving late next year, as its November 2025 slot is taken by Predator: Badlands.

Marvel Studios’ Blade will not be coming out on November 7th 2025. If you’ve been following the development woes of this particular project, that news won’t come as a surprise to you given that the above date is little more than a year away – and as yet, the film doesn’t officially have a director. For all we know, it doesn’t even have a finished script.

Back in September we covered a story that stated The Harder They Fall director Jeymes Samuel was in line for the director’s chair, a move which would have seen the filmmaker become the project’s third director following the departures of Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. Not long after however, Samuels debunked that report from World Of Reel, stating that...

Predator: Badlands bumps Blade out of its 2025 release date
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade has had a long, rough ride through the development process, and as of right now it doesn’t even have a director attached. So there probably weren’t many Marvel fans who were expecting the movie to stick with its November 7, 2025 release date – and therefore, few will be surprised or disappointed to hear that Blade has indeed been bumped out of 2025. Deadline reports that Disney will be releasing 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands on November 7, 2025 instead of Marvel’s vampire slayer movie.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’ve passed the five year anniversary of that announcement, and there’s still no sign...

The McU's Blade Reboot Gets a Disastrous Update
Image
Sorry, Blade fans, but it's going to be a while before you see Mahershala Ali trying to ice-skate uphill. Disney has just struck the upcoming superhero reboot with some more bad news.

It was previously set to hit theaters on Nov. 7, 2025, as part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In its place, Disney has dated the 20th Century Fox movie, Predator: Badlands, the upcoming sixth mainline entry in the long-running sci-fi franchise.

Jeymes Samuel will not direct Blade for Marvel Studios. The Book of Clarence filmmaker has debunked a recent report claiming that he had met with Marvel about directing the upcoming superhero reboot.

"I dont know where these rumors start, but I am not in talks to do Blade with Marvel. I love me the Daywalker tho, I cannot wait to watch that joint," Samuel wrote on the social media platform X. Reports of the filmmaker being in line to direct Blade emerged at the end of September 2024. Blade Reboot Could Be Eyeing The Harder They Fall Director Jeymes Samuel To Helm
Image
Marvel Studios' Blade reboot has been plagued by production woes ever since it was first announced over four years ago, going through a number of directors and writers.

The project finally seemed to be back on track after a recent update claimed that shooting was set to commence this Fall, but we recently learned that director Yann Demange will no longer helm the movie.

These continuous setbacks have led to speculation that the project has been shelved, but we have been assured that it is still moving forward with Mahershala Ali attached to star as the Daywalker, and we're now hearing that Marvel may have settled on a new director.

According to The World of Reel's Jordan Ruimy, the studio recently met with several potential directors, and Jeymes Samuel "impressed the Marvel brass." He doesn't know if the filmmaker has officially entered talks, but believes there's a good chance he will ultimately land the gig.

Wesley Snipes in Blade: Cazador de vampiros (1998)
Marvel’s Blade reboot may finally be heading into production
Wesley Snipes in Blade: Cazador de vampiros (1998)
Marvel’s troubled Blade reboot – which has been in limbo for years now – may finally have a script, a director and a shoot date.

While Marvel Studios is having a fair old crack at pulling itself out of the creative and commercial malaise that has set in over the last couple of years, one project that keeps dominating the headlines and reminding us of the studio’s rocky fortunes is Blade, the announced title that will feature Mahershala Ali as the MCU’s premier vampire hunter.

Blade’s path to production has been something of a mess, with the project already burning through two directors (Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange) and around six writers, including Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto. Getting that many writers to take a crack at a script isn’t that unusual, but having so much of this process played out...

Western Fans Need to Watch this Forgotten 2013 Indie
Image
The Western genre is as big as ever, and short films like They Die By Dawn showcase high-quality Western craft despite being less widely seen. The director of They Die By Dawn, Jeymes Samuel, tapped into historically underrepresented perspectives and combined them with masterful shooting to create the film. They Die By Dawn would be worth a watch for the incredible cast alone, but its artful look and important historical context make it and Samuel's other work unmissable for Western fans.

The Western remains one of film's most resilient genres, just as relevant today as they ever were. This is evidenced by the fact that one of the most successful shows of recent years is modern-day Western Yellowstone and its spin-offs, and now Yellowstone star Kevin Costner has finally got a release date for the first part of his epic four-part Western film series Horizon: An American Saga. The Book of Clarences Religious Comedy Isnt Just for Non-Believers
Image
The Book of Clarence is the kind of movie you dont know you want to see until you see it. A film about a man pretending to be a false prophet for his own personal gain in the age of Jesus isn't exactly driving people into the theaters. However, The Book of Clarence isnt so much a religious movie as it is a movie about religion, and this is the key reason it works as not only entertainment but commentary. Its probably not a film youll be seeing with your worship group - theres a little too much weed, opium, and false idol worship for that - but its definitely not a mockery of faith or religion. In fact, if anything, its an homage to some of the great films about Christianity, such as 1956s The Ten Commandments, 1965s The Greatest Story Ever Told, and 1959s Ben-Hur. Which makes sense,...

Lakeith Stanfield Starring In A Film Based On Neo-Noir Video Game El Paso, Elsewhere
Image
He's been back on our screens recently, reuniting with writer/director Jeymes Samuel for Biblical comedy drama The Book Of Clarence, but Lakeith Stanfield has his eye on something quite different. Babs Olusanmokun Talks ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’ and a ‘Dune 2’ Surprise
Image
The mark of a successful actor goes beyond top billing, box office draw, trophies and name-dropping headlines. Perhaps the purest indicator of an actor’s success is when they show up on screen and the audience immediately trusts that they’re going to add something genuinely interesting to the story being told. Well, Babs Olusanmokun has belonged to this category of actor for quite some time now, and Guy Ritchie’s latest film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, makes excellent use of the Nigerian-American actor, including his innately enigmatic presence and the mellifluous rasp of his voice.

Olusanmokun and Ritchie previously worked together on the Jason Statham-led Wrath of Man (2021), and they nearly worked together again in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023). Instead, Ungentlemanly Warfare became their second go-round, and Olusanmokun received a major promotion, jumping from 26th billing on Wrath of Man to fifth billing. His undercover spy character,...

Delroy Lindo Joins Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler’s Untitled Supernatural Thriller (Exclusive)

Lindo’s part is being kept in the coffin but one source describes it as having a musical element to it. The feature is gearing for shoot later this spring in New Orleans, and recently cast Jack O’Connell as a villain.

Coogler wrote the script and is...

DeWanda Wise Talks Blumhouse Film Imaginary: 'I'm an Indie Darling!'
Image
Blumhouse strikes again with yet another bone-chilling horror feature. These terrifying hypotheticals are explored in Imaginary, a new PG-13 offering that hits the masses this week. Don't let the more mild MPAA rating fool you, however. This bad boy packs a punch, and it's up to one heroic stepmom (DeWanda Wise) to swoop in and save her new family from seemingly evil spirits that have plagued their formerly peaceful home and existence at large.

Is The Book of Clarence Based on the Bible?
Image
The Book of Clarence is a religious comedy that draws inspiration from the Bible to explore spirituality. The movie incorporates genuine biblical characters and lore to underscore its themes and moral teachings. The film has contemporary flourishes and portrays a personal journey of redemption, rather than preaching religion.

Written and directed by Jeymes Samuel, The Book of Clarence is a religious comedy that opened to the masses on Jan. 12, 2024. The story follows Clarence (Lakeith Stanfield), a sinful huckster living in A.D. 33 Jerusalem among Jesus Christ and his disciples. To rid himself of mounting debt, Clarence pretends to be the new Messiah sent directly from God and begins manipulating those around him for his own gain and glory. During his quest, Clarence adopts moral tenets and learns to be more benevolent.

Considering the characters, title, and setting, it's easy to wonder if The Book of Clarence is officially based on the bible.

Genre-blending has become common in Western movies, with directors like Tarantino and the Coen Brothers putting modern spins on classic ideas. Western movies have successfully utilized genre mixing to offer fresh interpretations and subvert expectations, adding new elements to old ideas.

Western movies have seen many iterations over the years, including many films that have mixed it with other genres. The Western genre is essential to American pop culture and film history, with its golden age of heroic cowboys, gunslingers, and lawmen from the 1940s through the 1960s. However, the style of Westerns significantly evolved, reflecting cultural changes. The Spaghetti Westerns of Sergio Leone in the '60s popularized the subgenre, exploring more violent, anti-hero-like characters. In the '70s, the revisionist Western subgenre began examining the history of the Wild West from a more grounded,...
