Justin Trudeau has joined the list of political Swifties by asking Taylor Swift to bring “The Eras Tour” to Canada.
Swift recently announced a 14-show European leg of the tour with Paramore on July 5th, prompting the Prime Minister to throw his country in the hat of possibilities for a run of stops.
“It’s me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don’t make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon.” Trudeau tweeted, making sure to reference Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” “I Know Places,” and “Cruel Summer” in the process. At the time of publishing, Swift has yet to respond.
“The Eras Tour” will now pass through major cities like Paris, Lisbon, Dublin, Munich, and more. You can find last-minute tickets to “The Eras Tour” over at Stubhub, where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program.

President Joe Biden warned of the “assault” on American institutions and talked of the threat of Vladimir Putin using nuclear weapons at an issue-heavy fundraiser Thursday at the New York home of James Murdoch, the son of Rupert Murdoch.
The event raised money for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, hoping to retain the party’s majority in the chamber. Murdoch has backed away from his father’s media empire and diverges from his politics: He backed Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, at one point chipping in 615,000 to the Biden Victory Fund, according to Federal Election Commission records.
According to a pool report, Biden told attendees at the event that “this is not your father’s Republican party.” He said that there was an “assault on all these institutions,” naming the White House and the Supreme Court.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for the ending of “Moonhaven” Season 1.]
As Season 1 of “Moonhaven” is ending, an entire society hangs in the balance. A generations-long plan is starting to crumble, there’s a coup in progress, and some new arrivals are making the people of a self-contained lunar colony question pretty much everything.
Most other shows would lean into or feed off that chaos. Yet, “Moonhaven” takes some time for Earther pilot Bella (Emma McDonald) to join Paul Sarno (Dominic Monaghan) and his family in a quiet meal where they all talk about what they value and what’s to come.
“We said that a lot in the writers room, to ‘Think like a mooner,'” showrunner Peter Ocko said. “You didn’t grow up in a harsh environment, and then come to Paradise. You were born in Paradise. And so we built a fantasy version of a human that’s really in touch with themselves, but not...

Brandon Murphy, the screenwriter who co-wrote last year’s action-comedy sequel Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, died January 9 in Los Angeles, friends told Deadline. He was 43. No cause of death was given.
Murphy penned Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard with his younger brother, Phillip Murphy, and with Tom O’Connor, who wrote the original 2017 pic. Both starred Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, with Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas joining for the sequel. The latter opened to $17 million domestic on Father’s Day weekend last year and finished at $70 million.
Murphy also wrote and was making his directing debut on horror thriller Snow Valley, which was in postproduction at the time of his death.
The Murphy brothers made the 2011 Black List with their script The Last Drop. The project now is set up at 21 Laps.

Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek reunite with director Patrick Hughes for a sequel to 2017’s disappointing action caper The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Unfortunately, the best you can say about it is that it’s marginally better than the first film.
Reynolds plays former triple-a rated bodyguard Michael Bryce, who’s had his license taken away because of his multiple failings, several of them the direct result of his association with hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson). When his exasperated therapist (a wasted Rebecca Front) recommends a vacation, Bryce heads to picturesque Capri, but he’s barely there five minutes before Darius’ fiery-tempered wife Sonia (Hayek) plunges him into the centre of a gunfight and recruits him into...

The first movie, The Hitman’S Bodyguard (2017), without “wife’s” in the title, was a delightful buddy action comedy. The drop-off of this sequel is monstrously precipitous, making it a huge disappointment-in-waiting for fans of the progenitor. How can a cast of Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek, Antonio Banderas, Gary Oldman and Morgan – freakin’ – Freeman go so wrong? It appears that so much was spent on the stars, and a slew of lovely European locations, that there was nothing left for the screenplay or editing. It winds up a hyperbolic mess with only occasional laughs to reward the viewer.

Remember 2017’s “The Hitman’s Bodyguard”? No, seriously — do you? Does anyone? You might be surprised to learn that it has spawned a new sequel, “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”; you might not be surprised to learn that returning director Patrick Hughes has made a movie even more negligible and forgettable than the first one.
These aren’t movies as much as they are spreadsheets; we can imagine the math that determined that an action-comedy starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek — all reprising their roles, alongside new additions Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman — could make x number of money based on a budget of y dollars and Euros. What we can’t imagine is how Hughes and screenwriters Tom O’Connor, Phillip Murphy, and Brandon Murphy can so consistently turn a silk purse of a cast into a sow’s ear of a film.

Welcome to the latest TV and movie trope: therapists telling professional killers not to kill anymore. It happened in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and now, it’s happening to Ryan Reynolds in “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” — although technically, he’s being told not to bodyguard anymore.
Reynolds returns as Michael Bryce in the sequel to “The Hitman’s Bodyguard,” apparently trying to put his old life behind him. It’s not exactly going well, as he finds himself tangled up once more with Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson), having been hired to protect Darius’s wife, Sonia (Salma Hayek).
Life as a bodyguard is hard at the best of times, but lest we forget, Bryce is still unlicensed. So not only is he dealing with that, but then comes the pressure of finding out that Darius and Sonia are trying to have a baby. Oh, and also,

A few years back, there was a pretty interesting headline that came out of Los Angeles. Yes, I know, L.A.’s a big place, so I’ll probably have to be a bit more specific as to which story I’m referring to. But before I do that, let’s step back a minute and lay the groundwork.
In downtown Los Angeles, there was a hotel known as The Cecil Hotel (I say was because the hotel has since rebranded itself as Stay on Main), renowned for its morbid history. Located in the notorious area Skid Row, the Cecil Hotel was well known for its rampant criminal activity — it housed serial killer Richard Ramirez for some time — and suicides. In one particularly unlucky case, a man jumped from the building to commit suicide, only to land on someone down below in the process, resulting in a double death.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Superior, with the last major update coming back in January when it was revealed that Brandon and Phillip Murphy had been hired to pen the screenplay. However, Mark Millar has now taken to Twitter to suggest a new leading man, and it seems like the comic book adaptation is gaining traction as a result.
Millar has his eye on WWE Superstar and actor John Cena to take on the lead role and had the following to say via Twitter this weekend.
“Just watched @amyschumer’sTrainwreck & it’s my fave comedy in Years. @JohnCena so funny in it I literally just requested him for Superior. New draft for Superior script this week, Matthew producing & a perfect director lined up. Thanks for the follow, @JohnCena. Let’s do this!”
That’s a pretty positive update, and even WWE.com has picked up on the story.

Things may be moving a little faster than expected though as Mark Millar has taken to Twitter to reveal that he's talked to someone (the studio presumably) about WWE Superstar John Cena taking on the title role. For those of you unfamiliar with the premise of Superior, it focuses on a 12 year old boy with multiple sclerosis who is granted one wish by an alien monkey. He chooses to become his favourite comic book movie superhero Superior, but there's a massive twist along the way, and things play out much differently than expected. Michael Pena, star of End of Watch and Marvel’s Ant-Man, has agreed terms to join The Bringing, a new horror-thriller that’s entered pre-production over at Columbia Pictures and Sony.
Sherlock alum Jeremy Lovering is reportedly circling the director’s chair, chronicling the story of Elisa Lam, a woman who was found dead on the rooftop of the Cecil Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles under suspicious circumstances. Pena is on board to play the man tasked with unravelling that mystery, and considering that CCTV footage of Elisa’s perplexing death – whose body was uncovered in a water tank – later went viral, we don’t envy him.

This year’s Blood List has named the 13 best genre scripts around town, and in its sixth year the annual screenplay contest is expanding its scope to include hot books, TV pilots, and young scribes ripe for signing. Taking top honors in 2014 is sci-fi thriller Bird Box from The Thing and Final Destination 5 scribe Eric Heisserer, an apocalyptic tale of a woman trying to lead her children to safety – all three blindfolded – after monsters descend on earth that turn people insane on sight. Universal set Heisserer to adapt the manuscript from Josh Malerman in 2013 for Mama helmer Andy Muschietti. Previous Blood List alumni include Black Swan, Stoker, Warm Bodies, and the upcoming Blumhouse thriller The Boy Next Door.
Like the Black List naming the top unproduced screenplays circulating around Hollywood, the genre-focused Blood List taps exec votes to determine each year’s best unmade horror, sci-fi, and thriller scripts.

Jeremy Lovering is in negotiations to direct the horror tale "The Bringing" for Sony Pictures, a project that Nicolas Winding Refn ("Drive," "Only God Forgives") was previously circling.
The story is based on the macabre history of L.A.'s Cecil Hotel. The latest incident involves Elisa Lam, a woman who was found dead in a water tank on the hotel's roof.
Security footage captures her behaving strangely in a hotel elevator, and the story follows a man investigating her death.
Brandon and Phillip Murphy penned the script while Matt Tolmach and Daniela Cristina Cretu are set to produce.
Lovering previously helmed the "Sherlock" third season premiere, and the acclaimed Irish psychological thriller "In Fear" starring Iain De Caestecker and Allen Leech.

Earlier this summer, a report surfaced saying Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn was in early talks to direct The Bringing, a spec script by Brandon & Phillip Murphy. The film was inspired by the mysterious tale of a young woman named Elisa Lam, who can be seen in a security video on an elevator in the Cecil Hotel in La acting strangely before she disappeared and was found dead in one of the roof's water tanks two weeks later. However, when Refn revealed a month later that his next film would be his own I Walk with the Dead, we were skeptical he closed a deal for The Bringing. Now a new director has been chosen. Read on! Deadline reports Sony Pictures is now in talks with Jeremy Lovering to direct The Bringing, a horror story taking place in the hotel where the killer Richard Ramirez lived at one point and several suicides have occurred.

This month, at a post-screening Q&A I attended for The Guest, moderator Nicholas Winding Refn told the crowd that he was not doing The Bringing, Sony's supernatural thriller inspired by the Elisa Lam case here in Los Angeles. That left the director's seat wind open, well, for anyone.
Deadline says Jeremy Lovering is in discussions to helm the film which was penned by Brandon and Phillip Murphy.
Lovering helmed the UK thriller In Fear which was released Stateside earlier this year.

Earlier this year, Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn was said to be in talks to helm The Bringing for Sony Pictures, but he would leave the project shortly after. However, the studio has now lined up another filmmaker in the form of Jeremy Lovering. He’s best known for 2013 horror movie In Fear.
Scripted by Brandon and Phillip Murphy, The Bringing is based on actual events. It focuses on Elisa Lam, a woman who was found dead in the water tanks on the roof of the infamous Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles.
A viral video of the woman acting very strangely in an elevator moments before her death led to a lot of online speculation that there was a supernatural element to what happened to her, especially as she had no history of mental illness and no drugs or alcohol were found in her system when an autopsy was performed.

The Cecil Hotel has a macabre history that includes serial killers, suicides, and murder, but perhaps its most disturbing event happened last year, when a woman was recorded acting strangely in an elevator before being found drowned in a sealed water tank on the hotel’s roof two weeks later. The script has nothing really to do with that tragedy, but it created a germ of an idea focusing on a man investigating a death at the hotel and the nightmare he stumbles into.
As previously reported, Nic Refn was once slated to direct:

Exclusive: Sony Pictures is negotiating with Jeremy Lovering to direct The Bringing, the horror script by Brandon and Phillip Murphy based on actual events. Matt Tolmach and Daniela Cretu are producing. This has been top priority at Sony, and at one time had Nicolas Winding Refn circling. The pic is based on Elisa Lam, who was found dead in the water tanks on the roof of the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. That’s the place that killers like Richard Ramirez called home at one time or another, and where suicides have occurred. Footage of Lam’s bizarre, inexplicable behavior in an elevator before her death became a massive Internet sensation, and this has been turned into the story of the man investigating her death, and the nightmare he stumbles into. Cretu’s First Born Films developed the script that was brought in by Mtp’s Kate Checchi and Brad Zimmerman.

It has not been brougthen. Well, apparently. Justin Kroll of Variety reports via via his Twitter (via /Film) that director Nicolas Winding Refn will not direct the poorly-named, loosely fact-based horror film The Bringing, freeing him up to make other films with (probably) better names. Refn was rumored for the gig last month, and although it sounds as if he got pretty far into the negotiation process with Sony, Kroll reports that Refn is off the film because “negotiations have stalled.” The Bringing would have, ahem, brought Refn back to downtown Los Angeles (home of his Drive) and allowed the notorious horror fan to make a true scary story for the big screen. Penned by the Murphy brothers – Brandon Murphy and Phillip Murphy – the story is supposedly inspired by the creepy disappearance of Elisa Lam at downtown La’s Cecil Hotel. Lam, a Canadian visiting the country, went missing back in February of 2013. Her body was eventually...

Last month, we brought you news that Drive and Only God Forgives auteur Nicolas Winding Refn was in talks with Sony to direct their haunted house flick The Bringing. Unfortunately, though Refn was the one who sought out the project and lobbied to helm it, now it appears that the director will not be making the film after all.
According to Variety reporter Justin Kroll, negotiations between Refn and Sony have stalled. No other news was available, and Refn has been quiet about it. If it turns out that Kroll’s scoop is legitimate though, that’s a major bummer for horror buffs everywhere.
Kroll’s tweet read:

A month after he entered talks, "Drive" and "Only God Forgives" director Nicolas Winding Refn has dropped out of directing the haunted hotel horror tale "The Bringing" at Sony Pictures.
Negotiations between Refn and the studio have reportedly stalled and Refn is apparently moving away from the project
Brandon and Phillip Murphy penned the script which is said to be based on the real life and death of Elisa Lam, a Canadian woman who traveled to Los Angeles, and ended up dead in a water tank on the roof of a downtown hotel.
Refn's next film will stick in the genre though, the all-female "I Walk With the Dead" which will shoot in Los Angeles.

The Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles has the type of history that conjures up memories of the Overlook Hotel from Stephen King’s novel, The Shining. Its history includes serial killers, suicides, and murder. Perhaps its most chilling event, though, occurred last year when a woman was recorded acting very strangely in a Cecil Hotel elevator. She was later found drowned in a sealed water tank on the hotel’s roof, which was seemingly inaccessible to hotel visitors.
So bizarre and disturbing was this drowning that it inspired a screenplay titled The Bringing that Sony Pictures recently picked up. Now a notable director is in talks to helm the upcoming horror movie.
Deadline reports that Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Valhalla Rising and Only God Forgives) is actively pursuing the director’s chair for this haunted hotel project that was written by Brandon Murphy and Phillip Murphy. It’s important to...

Nicolas Winding Refn is currently busy serving on the jury at this year's Cannes Film Festival, but news has recently surfaced that he is eying a film titled The Bringing as his next feature. Set up at Sony Pictures, the screenplay was written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy, inspired by the viral "video of a young woman who displayed erratic behavior in an elevator at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, the place where such killers as Richard Ramirez called home at one time or other, and where numerous suicides have occurred. The woman, Elisa Lam, was found dead in the water tanks at the roof of the hotel." See the video at the bottom of this post. The script has nothing really to do with that the Lam tragedy, but its inspiration led to a story that will contain supernatural elements as it follows a man investigating a death at the hotel.

You could make the argument that the violent intensity of the polarising Only God Forgives was Nicolas Winding Refn’s first toe in the bloody waters of horror, and it seems he’s itching to dive headfirst into the genre, eyeing a straight-up terror pitch in The Bringing.Brandon and Phillip Murphy wrote the spec script, which Sony has snapped up after a brief, competitive bidding tussle. Their idea was inspired by a true-life video of a young woman named Elisa Lam, who was spotted behaving strangely in the lift of Los Angeles’ infamous Cecil Hotel. It’s a place with a dark history of suicide and where killers such as Richard Ramirez have lived. Lam’s story also ended tragically when her body was discovered in one of the building’s water tanks.Though the Murphy’s script has nothing to do with her case, it does find a...

A report today from Deadline suggests that Sony is in talks with Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn to direct a spec script called The Bringing. The script was written by brothers Brandon and Phillip Murphy and drew much attention from bidding studios because it was inspired by an Elisa Lam video (see below). Lam was a Canadian student who went missing and was later found in one of the water towers atop the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. The video was from a security camera in an elevator in the hotel and it shows Lam acting erratically. Her body was found more than two weeks later. The hotel has its own sordid history apart from that; it was the residence of serial killers Richard Ramirez and...

Sony has acquired a spec script for a haunted hotel film titled The Bringing, and they’re now in talks with Drive helmer Nicolas Winding Refn to direct. What’s interesting about the project is that while Refn is usually courted for directing gigs, this is one that he sought out himself, according to Deadline. This likely means that the script is very strong, as the much in demand filmmaker certainly has quite the selection when it comes to which movies he can make next.
The plot for this one will revolve around a man who stumbles into a nightmare when he investigates a death at a hotel. Though it’s not exactly based on true events, it is inspired by them. Brandon and Phillip Murphy are the ones who penned the script, and they first got the idea when they heard of the water tank death that occurred not...

After pulling out two projects with Ryan Gosling in Drive and Only God Forgives, director Nicolas Winding Refn is ready to step into the horror genre. Deadline reports Refn is currently in early talks to direct The Bringing, a spec script by Brandon & Phillip Murphy that was picked up by Sony Pictures after an intense bidding war happened in February. The catalyst for the project was the mysterious tale of a young woman named Elisa Lam, who can be seen in a security video on an elevator in the Cecil Hotel in La acting strangely before she disappeared and was found dead in one of the roof's water tanks two weeks later. Here's the video of Elisa Lam, which is much creepier when you read the accompanying information here: However, the script itself doesn't really have anything specific to do with Lam's death, but it sparked the idea for this...

Okay, so I'll own up to making fun of The Bringing for its ludicrous title. And I still think it's silly and an opportunistic cash-in to draw similarities to The Conjuring (and every other horror film that looks like The ___ing). What follows, however, is a pretty damn cool update. Deadline is reporting that Nicolas Winding Refn is in talks with Sony to direct The Bringing. The script, written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy, was written on spec and the subject of a bidding war earlier this year.

If you haven't heard about the truly mysterious case of Elisa Lam, consider yourself lucky as it's haunted me ever since the news broke back in 2013. Simply put, the story is the most frighteningly weird one I've ever heard of. Right now we have an update regarding the big screen telling.
According to Deadline, Nicolas Winding Refn is in early talks to direct The Bringing, the horror movie spec by Brandon and Phillip Murphy that Sony Pictures acquired in a competitive bidding battle in February. Matt Tolmach is producing with First Born Films’ Daniela Cretu.
This is the one that got the town whipped into a frenzy partly because its catalyst was a widely circulated video of a young woman who displayed erratic behavior in an elevator at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, the place such killers as Richard Ramirez called home at one time or other and where numerous suicides have occurred.
