Leaff 2023 brings a diverse programme from East and Southeast Asia, including international and UK premieres. This year, our programme will be showcased through these strands: Retrospective: Director Chung Ji-Young, Leaff’s Official Selection, Competition, Stories of Women, Halloween Horror Special, Cherish the World, Lgbtqia+ and Classics Restored. The festival will open and close at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. Other screenings and Q&As will take place at Odeon Luxe West End and the Cinema at Selfridges.

Leading independent producers from Asia and Europe showed the complicated routes taken in making indie films that are co-produced between the two regions.
They were gathered on Monday at Platform Busan, the Busan International Film Festival’s venue for sharing experiences.
Raymond Phathanavirangoon, a Bangkok-based producer and co-founder of the Seafic script lab, took the audience on the myriad paths taken by 2016 multi-country co-production “Apprentice,” by Singapore’s Boo Junfeng, that he co-wrote and co-produced.
The project was introduced in 2012 at the Rotterdam CineMart, then benefited from the Busan Asian Cinema Script Development Fund and Singapore’s Media Development Authority Development Fund before going to the Jerusalem Script Lab the same year. In 2013, the project received funding from Germany’s Film – und Medienstiftung Nrw and France’s Aide aux Cinemas du Monde.
In 2014, Germany’s Zdf Das Kleine Fernsehspiel did a pre-buy. The same year “Apprentice” received a Singapore Media Development Authority Production Grant.

The Berlin film festival has completed its lineup for Panorama, its primary sidebar, adding a further 24 titles, including Sundance hit Call Me by Your Name, the gay love story from A Bigger Splash director Luca Guadagnino.
The 2017 Panorama will also have a strong focus on China and Brazil, with three new art house titles from the Middle Kingdom world premiering in Berlin alongside a quartet of Brazilian films.

Berlin’s Panorama strand is now complete following the addition of 24 additional titles.
A total of 51 works from 43 countries have been chosen for screening in the section, including 21 in Panorama Dokumente and 29 feature films in the main programme and Panorama Special. 36 of these films will be getting their world premieres at the Berlinale.

Paris-based Zorba is developing a slate of Asia-set projects and will produce Jero Yun’s debut fiction feature, Ma Mère.
Paris-based and Shanghai production house Zorba has unveiled a slate of upcoming feature film co-productions, expanding its footprint into Asia and in particular China.
Among the upcoming projects is South Korean director Jero Yun’s Ma Mère, directly inspired by his feature-length documentary Mrs B., A North Korean Woman which premieres in Cannes Acid selection today (May 19). The filmmaker is also in Cannes with short film The Hitchhiker, which played in Directors’ Fortnight.
The documentary follows the real-life story of a North Korean woman who is human trafficked to China and in turn resorts to trafficking to raise money to get her sons out of the dictatorship which was once her home.

Jane Campion, President of the Jury for Shorts and also the Cinefondation's 15 shorts by new filmmakers coming from Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, India, Greece, Italy and France. The ninth edition of the Atelier de la Cinéfondation Cannes Festival will run parallel to the Competition screenings and can be seen in the Riviera between 15 and 26 May 2013.
Mexican Jorge Hernandez Aldana and his film The heirs and Chilean Attalah Niles and his film King along with the other participants will be presented to potential partners, sales companies and producers who might be interested in entering into co-productions with them.
Born in Caracas, cinematically formed in the Polish school in Lodz, and settled professionally in Mexico, Jorge Hernandez Aldana was the director of The Night Buffalo written by Guillermo Arriaga and starring Diego Luna, Liz Gallardo and Irene Azuela. Heirs has initial support from Lucia Films, producer of Mexican Michel Franco, and the main characters are a group of teenagers and their families in the city of Monterrey during the first half of the 90s. The boys are in search of the keys to achieve the American dream on Mexican soil. It is a portrait, comedic and serious, of an era that will not return, a story about the meaning of friendship and the need to belong, to what happens to a group of teenagers from good families while spending the summer on a skateboard, while waiting for a future of wealth, success and power.
King, by Chilean-American Niles Atallah ( Lucia ), deals Orélie Tounens Antoine, a lawyer who in 1860 took over a Mapuche territory, Araucania, make a kingdom where he would be the king, and his ministers and citizins Indians to maintain independence from Chile. According to its makers, the film, with a budget of half a million euros, penetrates the mind and offers a multifaceted portrait of an ambitious dreamer in a hallucinatory and surreal style.
Two projects from Asia are among the 15 new works selected to take part in this year's Atelier, part of the Cannes Film Festival's Cinefondation.
From China, it has selected Ciao Ciao by Song Chuan. From India, Chenu and film-maker Manjeet Singh will participate. Details of the projects will be disclosed at the beginning of April.

The ninth edition of L'Atelier at the upcoming 2013 Cannes Film Festival has announced 15 selected projects from 14 different countries. Since its creation in 2005, L'Atelier has invited directors and producers to meet hundreds of potential partners at the Cannes festival and market. In offering participants access to international collaboration and co-production, L'Atelier maximizes the filmmakers' chances of completing their projects.
