After showcasing a series of black ensembles during the promotion of “The Absence of Eden” last month, Zoe Saldana made a striking return to the red carpet. Remarkably, she appeared in two identical black dresses at events only a few days apart.

Langley is coming off a fantastic year. NBCUniversal topped the box office charts and was the big winner at the Oscars, thanks to Oppenheimer‘s sweep. Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s ousted whiz kid, returns from the feud as the new creative director of Valentino.
The fashion world’s been spinning recently, as designers for some of the world’s major luxury labels engage in an extended game of musical chairs. But this week, the tables turned when former Gucci designer Alessandro Michele was announced as the new creative director of Valentino, days after its designer of over two decades, the much-lauded Pierpaolo Piccioli, stepped down.
In the two years since Gucci unceremoniously dumped Michele, there’s been rampant speculation about where the 51-year-old designer would land next – Fendi? Zegna? Banana Republic? (The latter recently made headlines after hiring another design star, Zac Posen, to head up its creative team).
Michele honed his penchant for idiosyncratic looks while working for Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi and for Tom Ford at Gucci. When Ford departed to head his own label,...

Exclusive Updated: There have been more layoffs at CAA today. According to sources, less than 20 people were impacted and all have already been notified. They are said to be across a handful of departments in content areas that have been the hardest hit by the ongoing Hollywood contraction. A rep for CAA, which employees about 3,400 people, declined comment.
Those believed to be affected by the cuts include three veteran ICM Partners talent agents who had transitioned to CAA following the June 2022 acquisition: Carter Cohn, who was a founding partner in ICM’s 2012 management buyout; Chris Horsman, who had spent more than 11 years at ICM; and Ayala Cohen who had joined ICM in 2012 after overseeing the talent department at Saturday Night Live. Also said to be impacted is Ross Weiner, formerly of ICM and Paradigm, who started off as a theater lit agent and has represented stage clients.

Bureau Veritas, a world leader in inspection, compliance verification and certification services, has recognized Valentino for its commitment to integrating the values of inclusiveness and gender equality within the corporate structure of the luxury fashion house.
Valentino — which counts Florence Pugh and Yang Zi as ambassadors — received certification for gender equality, having reduced its gender wage gap to below 10 percent. The Roman fashion house is one of the first in the luxury industry to earn the recognition, which aims to promote a responsible approach by encouraging and incentivizing companies to implement appropriate policies designed to reduce the gender gap and support the professional advancement of women. The Recognition is part of the “Next Generation EU” (Ngeu) program, a €750 billion (around $815 billion) package, about half of which consists of grants agreed on by the European Union in response to the recent pandemic.

It was a perfect Hollywood afternoon. There was sun, a slight breeze, and some of the most famous faces on the planet. And for Demna Gvasalia, there was fear.
The Balenciaga creative director has proven himself one of the most adept and blunt bottlers of our zeitgeist for the past decade, and his artistic interpretations are among the most polarizing and debated in fashion. It’s perhaps understandable then that after the brand’s first Los Angeles show in its 105-year history, he was “very afraid” to talk to the locals.

A favorite and feverish game from Wall Street to Hollywood heading into 2024 is pairing up media companies, or pieces of them, to see what fits where in a high-stakes jigsaw puzzle that will shape the future of the industry.
Ongoing streaming losses, anticipated interest rate cuts (that could lower financing costs), more robust stock prices and the end of WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes — as well as actual, high-level conversations — have many believing that sluggish media M&a of all sizes could pick up dramatically in the new year. Just in this last week of 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery acquired Turkish streaming service BlueTV, Altice USA sold financial news streamer Cheddar and Lionsgate closed its acquisition of eOne.
There’s a logic to bigger deals as well. With Disney being “the only scaled legacy media company,” wrote Vijay Jayant of Evercore Isi, “a merger of some combination of NBCUniversal, Paramount, and Warner Bros Discovery has strong economic rationale.

Supermodel Linda Evangelista, 58, said that she was uninterested in romantic relationships.
“I don’t want to sleep with anybody anymore,” she told London’s Sunday Times. “I don’t want to hear somebody breathing.”
She said her last date was “definitely before the CoolSculpting” procedures, which started in August 2015 and continued through February 2016.
CoolSculpting, an Fda-cleared fat-freezing procedure, has become a popular alternative to liposuction.
In September 2021, Evangelista filed a lawsuit for $50 million in damages against Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc., CoolSculpting’s parent company. She alleged that CoolSculpting’s procedures had left her “brutally disfigured” and unable to work.
Evangelista said that she had been diagnosed with paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (Pah), a rare side effect of the CoolSculpting process that affects less than one percent of patients. Pah causes the affected fatty tissue to thicken and expand.

After two and a half years as a public entity, Endeavor is on the verge of going private again.
While nothing has been finalized, most observers agree that privatization is the most likely endgame following Endeavor Group’s announcement that it’s evaluating “strategic alternatives” for its assets, which include the WME talent agency and various live events businesses.
“By announcing that Endeavor was exploring its strategic alternatives, Ari was throwing in the towel,” says Lloyd Greif, an investment banker and CEO of Los Angeles-based firm Greif & Co. “From all appearances, Ari’s un-ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange and dropping the curtain — for now — as a public company.”
It might be humbling but not exactly a shocking development for Endeavor, which has struggled to convince Wall Street that its holdings can translate into shareholder value greater than the sum of its parts.

Oops, he did it again.
At 62, Ari Emanuel is now lord and master (or more precisely, CEO) of not one but two publicly held companies. Still, he could not resist bashing his longtime rivals at CAA when presented with a mic at the Bloomberg Screentime conference. And those weren’t the only comments that made some of his associates cringe.
Emanuel is credited with leading his company into expansion, often with pricey acquisitions. The logic of some of these deals escaped observers — Professional Bull Riders? Ok, but overcoming the odds, he transformed Endeavor into a public company in 2021. And in September, Tko Holdings, the combined UFC and WWE, began trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
Other agents — Mike Ovitz comes to mind — yearned to transcend their client-servicing roles. Emanuel has achieved that dream, yet all these deals later, he is still apparently in the grip of his inner agent.

Emanuel, CEO of the parent company to WME, attended Bloomberg’s Screentime conference this week and called for Lourd and his longtime partner, Kevin Huvane, to “take a leave of absence” amid a lawsuit from Ormond. That suit charges The Walt Disney Company and CAA with compliance in abuse that Ormond says she suffered at the hands of disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.
“We all know Ari Emanuel to be an incredibly performative and erratic and, in my mind, a self-serving human, I think much to the detriment of not just his colleagues, but his clients — the few that he’s got left. More importantly, his investors,” Lourd said during his own session at the Bloomberg conference.

CAA chairman and CEO Bryan Lourd has responded to his longtime agency competitor Ari Emanuel.
Emanuel on Wednesday criticized CAA — and specifically Lourd and his colleague Kevin Huvane — over a lawsuit accusing the agency of being complicit in Harvey Weinstein’s crimes. Emanuel said that Lourd should step aside pending an independent investigation.
“Look, we all know Ari Emanuel to be an incredibly performative, erratic, and, in my mind, always self-serving human, I think, much to the detriment of not just his colleagues, but his clients — the few that he’s got left — and, more importantly, his investors,” Lourd said Thursday, speaking to Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw in day two of the news organization’s Screentime conference.
“The idea that he in any way could think that he could hold himself out as morally superior to anyone — but specifically around the issues that are so challenging for women — is odd,...

CAA had been silent all day Wednesday since Julia Ormond named the uber-agency and Disney in her sexual battery lawsuit against the imprisoned Harvey Weinstein, but tonight the Bryan Lourd-led company is calling its inclusion in the action “baseless.”
In fact, CAA stopped just short of citing the claim of breach of fiduciary duty by their former client as a shakedown of sorts.
“CAA takes all allegations of sexual assault and abuse seriously, and has compassion for Ms. Ormond and the experience she described in her complaint,” an agency spokesperson said tonight. “However, the claims that Ms. Ormond has levied against the agency are completely without merit. Through counsel, Ms. Ormond approached CAA in March with these allegations about the agency. Knowing these allegations to be untrue, the agency then retained attorney Loretta Lynch and her law firm, Paul Weiss, to defend the company. Their review found nothing to support Ms.

Creative Artists Agency and Artémis have closed their previously announced agreement for the Pinault family’s investment company to become majority stakeholders in the entertainment and sports agency, the companies said Monday.
As previously reported in TheWrap, Bryan Lourd, Kevin Huvane and Richard Lovett will remain co-chairmen of CAA. Lourd will be named chief executive officer while Jim Burtson will remain president. Singapore-headquartered global investment firm Temasek will remain a minority investor in CAA. Cmc Capital will remain a CAA strategic partner.
Artémis CEO Francois-Henri Pinault had been in discussions to buy the stake in the talent agency — which underwent company-wide layoffs in early August — since at least July.
Tpg will exit the investment of 35% of the agency that it made in 2010, which it increased to a majority stake in 2014. The secondary investment was reported to be $225 million for the 53% majority stake. It was a landmark moment for growth for CAA,...

For those of a certain age who like to think that they’re still young — and who doesn’t? — it is sobering to realize that when Michael Ovitz bowed out of the agency business in 1995, neither Tom Holland nor Zendaya had even been born.
People who weren’t around in those days can’t begin to appreciate the fear that Ovitz inspired in Hollywood. He wielded the kind of power that no agent has mustered since and no agent ever will again. How the times and the town have changed.
One thing has remained constant in all the years since Ovitz left the building: Three then-young men who had emerged as future leaders of CAA well before Ovitz departed are still at the helm. Perhaps in spite of himself, Ovitz nailed the succession question that has led to so much drama at Disney and Paramount. But those three men — now...

Exclusive: “The UK’s role in the media multiverse” will take up plenty of airtime at the Rts Cambridge Convention, according to Theresa Wise, as the great-and-the-good of the TV industry prepare to gather for the biannual get-together.
Wise, the Rts CEO for a decade, pointed to huge international players set to keynote the two-day event including CAA Chairman Bryan Lourd and Liberty Global MD Mike Fries. With the industry experiencing tough times as the economic crisis, ad recession and U.S. strikes combine to slow production to a stutter, the UK’s “role in the media multiverse” will be up for discussion, according to Wise, who said speakers will likely tackle the American labor action and its impact on the UK head on.

It’s only delightful to witness the attention Linda Evangelista receives when she arrives at any event these days: The legendary supermodel and breast cancer survivor has been enjoying a public comeback that began to roll out slowly when she appeared on the cover of British Vogue in 2022, but ramped up to klieg light level when she was joined by Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell on the September 2023 cover of American Vogue. What does Evangelista think about this sudden burst of attention and adulation? “That I should’ve left the house sooner!” she exclaimed with a laugh to The Hollywood Reporter at Tuesday night’s Kering’s Second Annual Caring for Women Dinner at The Pool in New York City.
The annual fundraiser, produced by the Kering Group to benefit a trio of women-focused causes, was more than enough reason to venture out, she added. “I have felt so much love this week,...

On Tuesday morning, Endeavor’s UFC business merged with the WWE to create a new sports firm, Tko Group Holdings.
But while the new company creates a combat sports and entertainment powerhouse (controlled by Endeavor and led by its leadership team), it also created a new, slimmed down Endeavor, a company with its WME agency business front and center.
Mark Shapiro, the president and COO of both Endeavor and Tko, says that was no mistake.
“Endeavor is sitting in a very pristine position,” Shapiro tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “I mean, we’re at the epicenter of a large mobile, fast growing market. You know, the Tam [total addressable market] for sports, entertainment, music, live events and premium experiences is over $500 billion. And we’re walking into that world with a very strong balance sheet, lightly levered, healthy free cash flow, several capital return initiatives already in place vis a vie...

A French billionaire best known for acquiring luxury brands just bought one of Hollywood’s biggest talent agencies. Artémis, the Pinault family’s investment company, is procuring a majority stake in Creative Artists Agency.
CAA, which merged with ICM in late June 2022, will now be in the $40 billion portfolio that also contains Gucci, Saint Laurent and the auction house Christie’s.
How did Hollywood react Thursday to one of the key movers and shakers becoming, essentially, another luxury good in an already massive portfolio? Most of the industry offered a measured response.
A smart move for CAA as the strikes batter Hollywood
A common theme among those TheWrap spoke with was that the move was astute or in the company’s self-interest amid the ongoing Hollywood writer and actor labor stoppages.
“It’s a smart move, expanding into luxury brands, considering half of the entertainment industry is currently on strike,...
