- Nicknamed "Uhaa Nation", Sesugh Uhaa is better known internationally by his stage name Apollo Crews while signed to the professional wrestling empire known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Born on August 22, 1987 in Sacramento, California to a Nigerian father, Uhaa also has a sister (serving in the U.S. Army). He attended a military school during which he found escape through participating in several sports including amateur wrestling, soccer, football and track & field. The nickname "Uhaa Nation" was coined by his coach during Uhaa's time weight-training during his high school years. This nickname according to Uhaa's coach referred to him being as "strong as a nation".
Uhaa was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and early during his youth, became a devoted fan of professional wrestling, stating his favorites included Dwayne Johnson (as The Rock), Steve Austin and Kurt Angle in particular. He first trained in Curtis Hughes's World Wrestling Alliance 4 (WWA4) training school/promotion in Atlanta. Upon completing his training, he made his debut on August 17, 2009 as Uhaa Nation. After a few years competing locally, Uhaa went on to establish himself in larger known promotions including Dragon Gate, Evolve Wrestling and Full Impact Pro between 2011-2015. By October 2014, Uhaa's talent attracted the attention of the WWE and he was invited to a tryout camp. Standing 6-feet tall and weighing no less than 240 lbs, Uhaa ably displayed his proficiency in high-flying and power wrestling. He was signed on to WWE and spent his early years in further training in WWE NXT from 2014-2016.
