Canceling a show is not always due to controversy around the content, sometimes tragic events lead to a decision not to air. Reality TV history is full of fascinating production stories, including shows that never made it to air for various reasons. GLAAD, the world’s Lgbtq media advocacy organization, announced the nominees for its 28th annual GLAAD Media Awards today. Taking a strong stand for inclusivity, only two films were nominated for Outstanding Film — Wide Release, both featuring non-white gay characters: “Moonlight” and “Star Trek Beyond.”

Similarly, in the Outstanding Film — Limited Release category, three films with non-white characters were nominated: Park Chan-wook’s “The Handmaiden,” Jay Dockendorf’s “Naz & Maalik,” and Andrew Ahn’s “Spa Night” were nominated. Chris Kelly’s “Other People” and Joey Kuhn’s “Those People” round out the bunch.

The middle of Spring actually means a new selection of summer blockbusters to look forward to, and with a ton of big-budget films slated to come out within the next few months and beyond, the summer of 2015 looks like one to remember.

From the new Mad Max (which is already on our end-of -year top ten list event though we haven’t yet seen it) to Avengers, Poltergeists, male strippers, talking teddy bears, and a reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise, this summer’s trips to the theaters will be jam-packed with sequels and new tales. From May 1st right through to the end of August, some of the movies on our list could wind up on year-end “best of” lists or even receive some Oscar talk by December.

Pre-credit sequence. The teams are arriving in trucks, practically "Wages of Fear" style. Are they trying to say that this season's contestants are combustible? They're TNT, dyno-mite? The 18 castaways have been divided semi-arbitrarily into three tribes based on occupation and outlook on life, whatever that means. Up first? The White Collar tribe. "They're used to being in charge," Jeff Probst says. So admits she might be the Devil, says that she's demanding and makes her underlings cry. Max, who everybody I follow on Twitter knows from his "Survivor" teaching days, says that he's willing to use people to succeed. Carolyn compares this to her corporate experiences. The Blue Collar tribe is next. "They're used to hard work and physical labor," Probst says condescendingly. He resists calling them "salt of the earth" and "just folks." Mike is used to being covered in oil and mud and wants to get his hands filthy.

Something weird happened last year on Survivor. A contestant from another CBS reality show appeared on the program. Previously, CBS had imported stars from Survivor and Big Brother onto The Amazing Race. And it also cast Willie Hantz — brother of Survivor’s Russell and uncle of Survivor’s Brandon — on Big Brother. But Survivor — which is still considered the granddaddy and gold star of reality television, even if it doesn’t have the Emmy awards (or nominations, for that matter) to prove it — had never accepted sloppy seconds from another CBS show.

That all changed when Big Brother 12 champion Hayden Moss...

The challenge when analyzing Survivor is finding thrills when the finale reaches a predictable ending. This trend has happened frequently in recent seasons, with Malcolm’s exit from the Philippines being a rare exception. Even so, there’s still plenty to enjoy with Blood vs. Water’s conclusion. Tyson removes any doubts about a victory by taking the final two immunity challenges and choosing the right people. Underdogs like Ciera and Tina are too dangerous to face with this jury. Despite the editing focusing on Monica, she earns just one vote, and the rest go to Tyson. It’s hard to disagree with rewarding a guy who found two idols, built a solid alliance, and dodged stiff challenges from Hayden and Ciera. He’s come a long way from the goofball of the Tocantins or...

They were the last loved one pair in Survivor: Blood vs. Water, and they got there by very different means. Ciera Eastin was on the outs early so laid low, but then emerged in the back half of the season as risk-taker willing to vote out her own mom and gamble an immediate exit via a colored rock for the chance to improve her position. Mother Laura Morett, however, stuck around simply by destroying anyone that dared to face her at Redemption Island. Eventually, however, their time ran out. Zap2it: Are you glad you returned to "Survivor"? What was different about this time around versus your first season?

Gervase Peterson: Absolutely ecstatic that they brought me back to play again. What was different was really the players. The game is the same, it was the players. They're a lot faster-paced with how they do things. As soon as we got to the beach, Colton came to me and he said here's our alliance --  it's me, you, Aras, Monica and Kat. I was like, "What if I don't like somebody in that alliance? I gotta play with them for 39 days?" ... That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.

Hayden Moss was at it again on Survivor: Blood vs. Water, trying his best to sway someone’s vote at Tribal Council. It worked last week with Ciera. This week with Monica? Not so much. Hayden and Ciera tried every trick in the book to get Monica to flip away from Tyson and Gervase, calling Tyson a “villain” and insisting that he said “vicious rude things” about her. Aras: I wasn't totally shocked. That day I started to catch on that something was wrong. And I even told medical, I said, 'Man, I have this pit in my stomach, I don't feel good. I'm either getting blindsided or I have a stomach virus.' It was unfortunately not a stomach virus. One of the few times you wish for a stomach virus.

Wednesday night's Survivor: Blood vs. Water saw two players exit the game after coming up short at their Redemption Island duel. One player, Laura Boneham, had just arrived at Redemption, while the other player, John Cody, had spent nearly two weeks surviving challenges in the hopes of re-entering the game. We catch up with the 30-year-old physician to find out how difficult it was to go home after hanging on so long, and how it compared to his West Point military training.

ETonline: How hard was it for you [to go home after being on Redemption for so long]?

John: I don't know if you could tell by my body language, but I was a touch frustrated after that challenge last night! But you know, it's all part of the game, and I felt like I gave it my all every single challenge. Laura Boneham just missed going to the merge on "Survivor," as she was one of two people who lost the Redemption Island challenge before being allowed back into the game. Are you glad you did 'Survivor'? Was it everything you hoped it would be?

"I am so grateful that I got to play 'Survivor.' I'm so glad I would even do it again. It's a crazy adventure. It's very challenging and you put yourself out there and I did it, I'm very proud."

How hard was it to be put on the tribe of returning players right from the start?

"Wow. Two minutes in the game to be the first one voted out and then be put into the tribe...

Kat Edorsson was voted out of her tribe on last week's Survivor: Blood vs. Water, and last night she lost her Redemption Island puzzle duel, snuffing her hopes of winning Survivor in her second go-around. Now, the 23-year-old Florida student is talking to ETonline about whether she regrets making a move against Monica, how her performance on the show affected her relationship with Big Brother 12 winner, boyfriend Hayden Moss, and whether she was sure at the time he would even hypothetically split the million with her.

ETonline: I know that at a certain point in [your final] Tribal Council you got the idea that you might be going home, but did you think you were going home when you went into that Tribal Council?

"Survivor: Blood vs. Water's" Kat Edorsson was the latest castaway to lose the duel at Redemption Island and be sent home. But she's ready to head up Team Hayden Moss -- her "Big Brother" boyfriend is the love of her life, she tells Zap2it.

Are you glad you went back on "Survivor"? How was it different from the first time around?

"Absolutely, I love this game. The first time, it was a breeze for me because I was in an alliance of women and we dominated the game. The second time, there were so many aspects. I don't know about you, but I was confused. [laughs] There were lots of twists and turns and everybody came out with their own agenda and their own loved ones. It made it hard."

Why do you think your tribe blindsided you instead of getting rid of Laura Boneham last week?

There was a super awkward scene in last night’s episode of Survivor: Blood vs. Water where Kat Edorrson — who had been voted out of her tribe and was set to compete in a duel to stay alive at Redemption Island — flat out told her boyfriend Hayden that she wanted him to swap spots with her. Only one problem: Hayden didn’t want to. Therefore, he didn’t. Survivor: Blood vs. Water has been filled with personal stories and conflicts that have made it one of the most consistent seasons of recent years. Even an arrogant goofball like Brad Culpepper offered plenty of entertainment with his failed strategy and the anger he inspired in others. We’ve seen players truly moved by the plight of their loved ones, and there’s been a greater sense of fun during the challenges. On the other hand, there’s the story of Laura Boneham. After being voted out on the first day and saved by her husband Rupert, she settled into a background role. Others have called her annoying or ridiculed her attempts at strategy, but her position was secure. Why vote out someone who’s barely a threat? Laura seems like a nice person,...

Twenty-seven seasons into Survivor, it’s hard to believe any contestant can get away with being the “manipulative” one. At this point it’s an embarrassing, outdated word for gameplay on reality TV, the kind of whodunnit connivery you associate with Richard Hatch or Project Runway‘s Wendy Pepper – self-fancied Iagos ginning up the green-eyed monster in otherwise rational competitors. Which is why it’s insane that any Survivor veteran in 2013 — let alone the veterans who’ve been invited back to play — can be so naive as to allow a blatant manipulator like Vytas plow through their preordained plan of attack with almost no pushback. Vytas is not just manipulative. He is hauntingly stalwart in his plan to undermine his female teammates with “vulnerability.” “We’re eliminating you!” his teammates tell him. He blinks once and responds, “Oh. Right. You are. Thank you for telling me. Thank you. But… you won’t.

Entertainment Weekly: I have asked you this before, but in light of Laura blatantly copying off of John’s puzzle at the duel, and Kat not wanting to do it because she viewed it as “cheating,” it seems worth asking again: Why not put blinders up so contestants can not copy off of each other during puzzles, especially since it can give the person closer to the completed one (in this case, Laura) an advantage?
