San Francisco, May 24 (Ians) Audio streaming platform SoundCloud has reportedly laid off 8 per cent of its workforce as it seeks profitability amid global macroeconomic conditions.
The decision mainly affects employees in the US, reports Billboard, citing a representative from SoundCloud.
SoundCloud CEO Eliah Seton said in a meeting with employees that layoffs are being made “in order to help the company turn a profit”.
“Everyone whose job is impacted by this change will receive an invitation to meet with the People Team and their manager,” Seton said in a memo.
He took accountability for this decision, saying “this is a challenging but essential decision to ensure the health of our business and get SoundCloud to profitability this year.”
The company also said it would seek further investors for the audio streaming service.

SoundCloud today announced that Nancy Hood will join the streaming platform as Senior Vice President, Listener. In her new role, Hood will lead the growth and expansion of SoundCloud’s global consumer listener business, which encompasses consumer subscriptions and advertising. She will be based in New York and report to Chief Operating Officer, Michael Weissman.
Hood joins SoundCloud from PayPal, where she was Head of Consumer for PayPal Credit. Prior to PayPal, she was Senior Vice President of Marketing at Audible, an Amazon company, where she led the acquisition, engagement, merchandising, business development, and media functions. Vimeo is best known as the online video platform of choice for the artsy set, but its library also includes a fair amount of branded content, and now, thanks to its latest deal, more sponsored projects are on the way. Vimeo has announced a deal with social media agency VaynerMedia to launch a branded content initiative called Vimeo/Vayner Studio.
Vimeo/Vayner will combine the former company’s roster of talented filmmakers with the social media marketing know-how of Gary Vaynerchuk and his team.
