Crazy Rich Asians is one of the best rom-coms of the Summer, so it's only fitting that the soundtrack is filled with tons of love songs. While there are quite a few bops in the movie, one of the sweetest tracks has to be the one that plays during Colin and Araminta's wedding in Singapore. As Araminta walks down the aisle, a beautiful cover of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love" by singer Kina Grannis plays in the background. The quietly stunning song strikes the perfect, understated contrast to the outrageously luxurious nuptials of the two characters, and is enough to make you teary eyed.

Wong Fu Productions -- an independent film production company founded by Philip Wang, Wesley Chan, and Ted Fu -- has made a name for itself in the media community.

Creating content that caters to younger audiences, Wong Fu has found a niche making content that depicts relatable stories and often highlights the voices of Asian Americans and other underrepresented communities.

Wong Fu may be best known for its digital shorts, YouTube Red series Single by 30, and other content.

The onus of increasing Asian American representation on the screen isn’t solely on actors. If the parts simply aren’t there, then no amount of preparation can help if an actor can’t even get an audition or see a casting director, which is an issue discussed in Part 1 of IndieWire’s series about Asian American representation on TV.

More roles for Asians can only happen from the ground up. As Hollywood is only beginning to truly understand, diversity happens in front of and behind the camera. Until Hollywood starts seeing Asian actors as actors first and Asians second, that means Asians must step in to call the shots. They must be the producers, the directors, and the writers to create a more inclusive and culturally accurate television landscape.

Sing, the upcoming animated film from Minions studio Illumination Entertainment, is set to hit theaters on December 21st. In anticipation of the film’s release, Illumination has turned to the YouTube community. The production company’s channel is the host of a live stream that will feature some of YouTube’s most popular performers in a concert that supports Sing.

The stream is called "A Holiday Remix: Live on YouTube,” and it will feature classic wintertime staples reimagined by members of the digital video community. Performers who are expected to take the stage include Mike Tompkins, Karmin, UsTheDuo, Chloe x Halle, Krnfx, Peter Hollens, Harper Still, Kina Grannis, and Leroy Sanchez. Kurt Hugo Schneider, who has worked with several of the aforementioned musicians and many others, will present a video during the event.

This is not Illumination’s first overture to the YouTube community ahead of Sing’s release date.

As their first first viral video attests, Wesley Chan and Philip Wang have made it their life’s mission as filmmakers to prove one thing: Asian men are sexy. With Harry Shum Jr. (“Glee”) as the leading man in their new mini-series, “Single By 30,” the point is moot. In the series, Shum plays Peter, a nice guy living in Los Angeles working for the family business. With his thirtieth birthday approaching, and his parents thirsting for grandkids, Peter decides he needs to step up his dating game. When his party-loving friend Mark (Eric Ochoa) makes a Facebook event for what was supposed to be a quiet celebration, Peter’s high school crush shows up.

Digital network Studio71 has added a handful of high-profile YouTube and Vine stars to its illustrious roster. The network, a subsidiary of German mass media company ProSiebenSat.1, has signed YouTube musicians Kina Grannis and Tiffany Alvord, as well Vine star Alx James -- who counts 8.1 million followers and 2.6 billion loops.

While Alvord is a California-based singer/songwriter with almost 3 million YouTube subscribers, Grannis will next be seen in the YouTube Red romantic comedy web series Single By 30. James, known for his sassy short-form clips, joins fellow Studio71 Viners Shonduras, Logan Paul, and Matthew Espinosa.

Additionally, Studio71 announced that it has signed YouTube lifestyle vlogger Tina Yong, tech review channel TechSmartt, reaction video hub Reaction Time, and sketch parody channel Miles Jai Productions. TechSmartt, headlined by Keaton Keller, features wacky iPhone case reviews and more, while Reaction Time showcases Tal Fishman’s reactions to popular videos suggested by his viewers.

YouTube Red and New Form Digital have wrapped production on Single By 30, an eight-episode romantic comedy series starring Glee’s Harry Shum Jr. and YouTube musician Kina Grannis. The show is set to premiere on YouTube Red later this year.

Single By 30 tells the story of two high school best friends who make the age-old promise to get married if they are still single by 30 years old. It was created and directed by Philip Wang and Wesley Chan of Wong Fu Productions -- a top YouTube channel and independent production studio. Additional influencer cast members include the YouTubers Anna Akana, Ryan Higa, and Eric Ochoa, and Vine star Manon Mathews.

“For Single By 30, it was important for us to cast a diverse group of actors to reflect the culture of Los Angeles, where the story is set,” said Chan in a statement.

On May 6th, Kina Grannis will release Elements, her newest album. The singer-songwriter, who has 872,000 subscribers on YouTube, has enlisted a bunch of popular YouTubers to help hype the new release. She has released a lyric video for her song "Dear River" in which the creators behind 21 YouTube channels join in and mouth the lyrics. The "Dear River" video features the leadoff track on Elements, with the participating YouTubers jamming along to its churning acoustic guitar rhythm. Most of Grannis' guests are her fellow YouTube musicians, including The Gregory Brothers, Lindsey Stirling, and Kurt Hugo Schneider, but a few non-musical creators--such as Ryan Higa, KevJumba, and Wong Fu Productions--show up as well. Grannis rose to prominence on YouTube after her song 'Message From Your Heart' won her Doritos' Crash The Super Bowl contest and landed her a record deal with Interscope Records.

Los Angeles — There are about 600 versions of Adele's Oscar-winning song "Skyfall" on the Spotify subscription music service. Not one of them features Adele.

Adele's label, Xl Recordings, keeps her music off of all-you-can-listen subscription plans until download sales peter out. In the meantime, copycat artists fill the void, racking up royalty revenue, often before customers realize they've been listening to someone else.

Alice Bonde Nissen found that out the hard way. She once paid 99 Krone ($17) a month for Spotify's premium service in Denmark. Bonde found a version of "Skyfall" and mistakenly clicked on a "follow" button to become a fan of GMPresents and Jocelyn Scofield, the name for a cover-song specialist with some 4,600 Spotify followers. Scofield, who didn't respond to a message seeking comment for this story, has the most listened-to cover of "Skyfall" on the service.

Robert G. Putka‘s Mouthful and Jared Varava‘s Tumbleweed! are two short films that have been selected to screen at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival, which will run in Austin, TX on March 9-17.

Mouthful is Putka’s second short film, a verbally raunchy comedy starring Eilis Cahill and Conor Casey as a young couple whose relationship becomes strained thanks to an overly frank discussion about their sexual histories. The film was recently reviewed on Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film saying “one shouldn’t assume too much how the premise of a young man and woman discussing [male] anatomy will play out.”
