‘Marie Antoinette’ Sneak Peek: Louis Welcomes a ‘Traitor’ Back to Versailles (Video)
Image
The king is trying his best to make amends with the bitter aristocracy in Marie Antoinette Season 2, and the queen is rebelling against it. TV Insider is debuting an exclusive first look at Season 2 Episode 3 of the PBS drama, airing this Sunday, April 6. In it, Louis (Louis Cunningham) welcomes his cousin, Chartres (Oscar Lesage), back to Versailles, a controversial move in Marie Antoinette’s (Emilia Schüle) eyes. She sees Chartres as a traitor. Chartres is a man scorned in Season 2 following his rejected romantic feelings for Marie Antoinette and his subsequent banishment from Versailles in Season 1. Now that his father has died, resulting in him inheriting “the largest fortune in France,” as Louis warns in the scene above, he has the power to elevate the “seditious Palais-Royal into a court to rival Versailles,” as Guy Henry‘s Vergennes says. How ‘Marie Antoinette’ Season 2 Is ‘the Beginning of the End’
Image
Everyone knows where the story of Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI leads. Marie Antoinette Season 2 triggers “the beginning of the end,” according to star Louis Cunningham. Season 2 returns Sunday, March 23 on PBS after the premiere of Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light. In it, “Marie Antoinette knows that her enemies are waiting in the wings to destroy her,” PBS teases of the period drama starring Emilia Schüle as the infamous queen of France. “At the height of their power, Marie Antoinette and Louis face an unprecedented financial crisis. The incessant attacks of Provence [Jack Archer] and Chartres [Oscar Lesage] stir up the hatred of the nobles while disastrous consequences loom with the Diamond Necklace Affair. From Versailles to the Palais-Royal, the revolt rumbles on.” The royal couple begins in a relatively good place in Season 2, but their relationship, as Cunningham teases, will reverberate through the whole of France.

Demi Moore Wins Best Actress for 'The Substance' at Golden Globes 2025
Image
The 2025 Golden Globes were a landmark moment for underappreciated actors finally getting the recognition they deserve. FX's Shogun won several major awards, while Colin Farrell took home Best Actor in a Limited Series - Drama for his performance in The Penguin. But the true hero of the night was Demi Moore, who won her first major acting award in 30 years for her incredible performance in The Substance.

Demi Moore won Best Female Actor - Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy (which really rolls off the tongue) for her performance in Mubi's sensational horror movie The Substance. While the film will likely cause some debate about its categorization as a musical/comedy, Moore's award was well-deserved. "I'm just in shock right now," the actress said in her acceptance speech. During the speech, Moore reflected on her long acting career, and the lack of Oscar statuettes and Golden Globes that came from it.

'The Substance' Director Shuts Down the Possibility of a Sequel
Image
Coralie Fargeat, the director of The Substance, commented on the possibility of making a sequel to the 2024 massive horror hit and insisted that there will be "no sequels, no prequels." The Substance is a horror film starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley that blew everyone's mind in 2024 and even garnered some Award-season buzz. Critically acclaimed and very successful among fans of the bizarre, The Substance is a complete shift in tone that we didn't know we needed.

Unfortunately, for those who expected to see more emotionally disturbed characters making an extraordinary decision to put their bodies through the effects of the substance, we have bad news. During an interview with Variety, director Coralie Fargeat was asked about the possibility of a sequel, and she replied as follows:

"Oh no, oh no. The point of this movie is to present fresh things to the world. Like no sequels, no prequels, no number two,...

Monsieur Spade Season 1 Ending Explained
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Monsieur Spade episode 6.

Monsieur Spade's action-packed ending is less a murder mystery-style parade of reveals, and more about bringing closure to the show’s major threads. In the previous installment, Jean-Pierre (Stanley Weber) was gunned down by Philippe Saint-André (Jonathan Zaccaï), who winds up arrested by the episode’s end. Although Philippe is finally pinned for something, Monsieur Spade episode 6 struggles to provide a clear-cut ending for the highly sought-after boy, Zayd (Ismaël Berqouch). Until the show's bitter end, various parties in Monsieur Spade's cast of characters fight for control of Zayd, a young code-breaker from Algeria.

Philippe’s plan for Zayd goes sideways, resulting in the deaths of several characters, including the hostile monk and the private investigator Mr. Khan. Elsewhere, Cynthia Fitzsimmons (Rebecca Root) kills George Fitzsimmons. Eventually, Virginia Dell (Alfre Woodard) sits the show’s principal characters down to parse out their alleged claims to the boy,...

Demi Moore stole the spotlight this year with her performance in the body horror The Substance. Going in on a film in the genre already comes with the expectation of many gory scenes, and Demi Moore admitted she isn't squeamish, but one scene was over the top.

Movies that offer the purest form of body horror make the list of the best of all time. These films push human anatomy to its limits, bringing the horror from the inside out where it can't be escaped. Sometimes these movies are hard to watch, and no matter what, they're beyond terrifying.

There is a signature moment in Coralie Fargeat's satirical body horror film, The Substance, where star Demi Moore is presented at her most vulnerable. Playing an aging actress who is being put out to pasture by the higher-ups of her aerobics TV show, she is preparing to go out on a date after having already used the black market drug that literally makes a younger version of herself come out of her body. At this point, Elisabeth Sparkle has reverted to her original self. As she prepares to get ready, looking beautiful by anyone's standards, she heads to the door to leave but immediately second-guesses herself and heads back to the bathroom to apply more makeup and add more to her outfit.

Why Sue Doesn't Look Like Elisabeth in The Substance
Image
French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat's newest film, The Substance, has been the topic of numerous discussions online for being the most shocking (and disgusting) movie of the year. While it is both surprising and at times gross, the main reason it has gained so much traction is because of the not-so-subtle commentary on society's unsustainable beauty standards, specifically toward women. The film takes jabs at Hollywood's obsession with youth and beauty concerning women, but it also talks about society's unhealthy relationship with women's youth and beauty.

The body horror film follows a faded Oscar-winning actress named Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore) who is fired from her decades-long stint leading an exercise show on the morning of her 50th birthday. After getting into a terrible car accident while watching her billboard be taken down, the downtrodden former starlet decides to try something called The Substance, which supposedly creates a better version of the user.

How Gory Is the Substance?
Image
Warning: Spoilers follow for The SubstanceJust over a week into its release, its already clear that The Substance is destined to go down as one of 2024s most talked about films. And the hype is completely justified. Director Coralie Fargeat has made an utter powder keg of a movie, ruthlessly satirizing female objectification and ageism in the entertainment industry while expertly blending body horror with high camp. On top of that, it features career-best performances from Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, both of whom deserve Oscar consideration (despite the Academys notorious stigma against horror).

That being said, The Substance is absolutely not for the faint of heart. Its also not advised to eat before or while watching, as the film is one of the grisliest in recent memory, featuring some of the most viscerally sickening body horror since David Cronenbergs The Fly. The last 15 minutes in particular arguably push the R-rating to its limit,...

Breaking Down The Substance & Its Beautifully Bloody Ending
Image
The Substance is the newest body horror to hit theaters, and it is a brilliantly scathing review of Hollywood beauty standards. Directed by Coralie Fargeat, The Substance fits within her typical style of creating worlds that are recognizable, yet detached from reality. The film, which was the result of a joint venture between production companies in France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, originally premiered in May this year, before gaining theatrical release on September 20th.

Starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, The Substance follows a fading celebrity who uses a black-market drug in hopes of creating a younger, more beautiful version of herself. Giving into the pressures of aging, and being pushed out of the television industry, The Substance acts as a commentary on the monstrous side of giving in to societal standards. The ending of The Substance is bonkers, bloody, and beautiful, but what does it mean?...
