From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.
We’ve compiled a list of music-centric biopics available to stream should the urge overcome viewers.

Kathryn Newton channeled her inner “Lisa Frankenstein” for a special screening of the film at the Hollywood Athletic Club, donning a dramatic black corseted Vera Wang gown with exaggerated tulle hips.
“There was no other dress option. I have a little heart I took from my last boyfriend,” Newton told Variety on the black carpet, pointing to her blood-red heart-shaped choker and giggling, “Just kidding – I don’t have a boyfriend!”
In the film from Zelda Williams, Newton’s Lisa and a re-animated corpse dubbed “The Creature” (Cole Sprouse) embark on a murderous journey to make him whole by claiming some of his missing body parts from the living. Even though Sprouse doesn’t speak a single word in Diablo Cody’s campy script, communicating only through grunts, Newton says they had no trouble selling their chemistry.
“Have you looked at Cole Sprouse? It’s very easy to have chemistry.

Sofia Coppola's "Priscilla," which focuses on Priscilla Presley's life with Elvis Presley, is very accurate to Priscilla's memoir on which its based. But watching the movie, which stars Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and "Euphoria"'s Jacob Elordi as Elvis, you might be a little jarred by the height difference between Elvis and Priscilla in the film. Elordi's Elvis is really, really tall, especially compared to Spaeny's Priscilla. In a way, their height difference works well with the themes of the film, which is about, in part, how young Priscilla was when they first met (just 14 to Elvis's 24) and how out of her depth she was living in Elvis's world as a teenager.
So we did some investigation. Ahead, we're breaking down Elvis and Priscilla's real height difference, Elordi and Speaney's, and - just for fun - the height difference of the stars of 2022's "Elvis."
How Tall Was Elvis Presley?...

Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber have been dating since December 2021, but for the most part, they prefer to keep their romance away from the spotlight. Other than their casual outings, their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2022 Met Gala, and their loved-up appearance at last year's Cannes Film Festival, neither Butler nor Gerber has publicly revealed much about their relationship.
And they prefer to keep it that way. When Butler was previously asked to comment on his relationship with Gerber in an interview with GQ, he responded, "I don't think there's anything I want to share about that. But thank you for providing the space." However, he did briefly comment on being recently photographed with Gerber. "I go, 'If I don't see the picture, then it doesn't really exist to me,'" he said. "I don't want to be really negative, but there's hardly any job I despise more than paparazzi.

Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" biopic served as a launchpad for Austin Butler's newfound A-list-actor status, which is why more fans than ever are wondering who the future Dune villain is dating and who he's dated in the past.
Most people are familiar with Butler's nearly 10-year-long relationship with Vanessa Hudgens, which ended suddenly in 2020. Still, Butler had a few low-key relationships with other actors before he linked up with his current girlfriend, supermodel Kaia Gerber. For example, Butler and Olivia DeJonge reportedly dated throughout filming (no wonder their onscreen chemistry was off the charts).
Butler was first linked to Gerber in December 2021 but it wasn't until five months later that they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Met Gala. Though Butler attended the event with Priscilla Presley, he snuck some in photos with his girlfriend, too. The couple's last public appearance was at the Time 100 gala in April.

Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi are stepping into some iconic shoes as Priscilla and Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola's adaptation of Priscilla's 1985 memoir, "Elvis and Me." The film, "Priscilla," which Coppola wrote and directed, will be distributed by A24 in North America. "Priscilla" premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 4, and Priscilla, who serves as an executive producer on the movie, was in attendance as well.
Coppola is known for "The Virgin Suicides" and "Marie Antoinette," and previously worked with A24 on "On the Rocks" and "The Bling Ring." "Priscilla" comes on the heels of Baz Luhrmann's 2022 film "Elvis," which featured Austin Butler as the titular star and Olivia DeJonge as his wife. Butler was nominated for an Oscar for his role.

A24 has released the official trailer for its upcoming Sofia Coppola feature “Priscilla.”
The film is based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir “Elvis and Me,” which details personal accounts of her relationship with Elvis Presley. Flashes of their first meeting in Bad Nauheim, Germany, in 1959 to their 1967 Las Vegas wedding and birth of their daughter, Lisa Marie, are teased throughout the new footage. The trailer spotlights some of the couple’s most iconic moments together, as well as their eventual divorce.
“Priscilla” stars Cailee Spaeny in the titular role and Jacob Elordi as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The film’s centering of Priscilla’s perspective serves as a sharp counter to Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biographical music drama “Elvis,” which starred Austin Butler and Olivia DeJonge as the Presleys and went on to receive several Oscar nominations.
“Priscilla” received a seven-minute standing ovation at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

Sofia Coppola is focusing on a 20th-century American princess for her first feature since 2020’s “On the Rocks”: Priscilla Presley.
After helming 2006 film “Marie Antoinette,” Coppola takes on adapting Priscilla’s 1985 memoir “Elvis and Me.” The film, titled “Priscilla,” stars “Mare of Easttown” actress Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and “Euphoria” breakout Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley.
Per a Deadline source, Spaeny was Coppola’s first choice to portray Priscilla, while “Euphoria” star Elordi auditioned for the role of Elvis. Coppola writes, directs, and produces “Priscilla,” which spans 12 years. Spaeny portrays Priscilla across ages 15 to 27.
Frequent Coppola collaborators cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd, costume designer Stacey Battat, editor Sarah Flack, and production designer Tamara Deverell also signed on to the A24 period piece.
Coppola’s indie “Priscilla” comes on the heels of Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar-nominated “Elvis” epic with Austin Butler as the King of Rock ‘n Roll and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla.

To paraphrase a famous Elvis Presley song: Wise men say, only fools rush in…and don’t get the blessing of the Presley estate. Said estate has come out against Sofia Coppola’s upcoming Priscilla for not getting approval from the estate of Elvis Presley…even though it’s based on Priscilla Presley’s own 1985 memoir.
According to TMZ, one official from the Elvis Presley estate has called Sofia Coppola’s work “horrible”, adding, “It feels like a college movie. The set designs are just horrific, it’s not what Graceland looks like.” While no other criticisms from the official were revealed, TMZ did note that they consider it “another Priscilla money grab.”
Priscilla Presley has a different viewpoint, even if it may be skewed considering she serves as an executive producer. But she, somehow unlike the unnamed source, has yet to see Priscilla. “I am very excited to see...

Remember Priscilla Presley in Elvis? No? Don’t blame you. Olivia DeJonge was great, don’t get us wrong, but there wasn’t much room for her in the film’s two-and-a-half hours, and there was a lot of other stuff going on. Baz Luhrmann’s neon rollercoaster through Vegas! Austin Butler’s wiggling hips! Tom Hanks’ accent! Overwhelming. Now, though, the first trailer for Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla promises to tell the other side of the story which Luhrmann cartwheeled through in Elvis. Priscilla is based on Priscilla’s autobiography Elvis & Me, and will track her life – from leaving home to live with Elvis in his giganto-mansion Graceland, through their life together. Watch the teaser:
As per its title, the Priscilla teaser focuses primarily on the woman herself, with a few quick flashes of Elvis in the mix. “Priscilla, what about boys at school?” asks her mother, played...

The film is based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me, with Sofia Coppola adapting the book and directing. Dagmara Dominczyk (Succession) also stars, and Coppola, Lorenzo Mieli, and Youree Henley serve as producers.
Coppola’s behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Philippe Le Sourd, production designer Tamara Deverell, editor Sarah Flack, costume designer Stacey Battat, and music supervisor Randall Poster. The film’s score is by Phoenix.
A24’s targeting an October 2023 theatrical release.

Based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir “Elvis and Me,” the biographical film follows her life and relationship with the King of Rock ‘n Roll. Cailee Spaeny stars as Priscilla, with Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley.
Spaeny and Elordi are the latest stars to play Priscilla and Elvis Presley on screen. I have all the details from inside the event, which as usual attracted the most elite of the Hollywood set who poured in after watching Everything Everywhere All at Once score seven Oscar trophies including Best Picture.

Baz Luhrmann’s latest project “Elvis” marks his glamorous return to filmmaking, almost a decade after his last feature film, “The Great Gatsby,” was released in 2013.
Luhrmann’s portrayal of The King will tell the musician’s story with the backdrop of a powerful soundtrack — including Austin Butler singing as Elvis — with other star singers covering The King’s discography from Kacey Musgraves to Eminem and Ceelo Green. Black musicians like Little Richard, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and B.B. King played a major role in influencing Elvis’ development as a singer.
Whether it be fans of Elvis, Butler or Luhrmann (or all three), many may be wondering how to watch “Elvis,” so we’ve gathered all the details below.

M. Night Shyamalan‘s latest, Knock at the Cabin, showcases the director’s ability to build suspense through dynamic camerawork and composition. The home invasion thriller, which sees a vacationing family held hostage and forced to make an unthinkable choice, eventually gives way to a contemporary biblical tale.
Shyamalan immediately hits the ground running in his latest movie, wasting no time and cutting straight to the suspense-driven home invasion. He makes the single cabin location visually interesting, injecting taut tension and terror, something common among his genre films.
No matter the story or its tone, Shyamalan can wring potent chills from just about any scenario. To prove it, we’re looking back at five of the scariest moments from Shyamalan movies.

The 2022 film "Elvis" continues to receive accolades, having recently been nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for star Austin Butler. The story of Elvis Presley was directed and co-written by Baz Luhrmann, focusing on the life of the iconic performer, of course, and his nefarious manager Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks. But there are so many moments where actors with smaller parts shine. Olivia DeJonge is a standout as Priscilla Presley, despite not having a ton of screen time. Yola's work as Sister Rosetta Tharpe made me want to pause and rewind fairly consistently.
The fact that performers with only a small amount of screentime stood out so much wasn't an accident, according to a discussion Luhrmann had with the film's composer, Elliott Wheeler, on a Warner Bros. Pictures YouTube video called "Baz Luhrmann's Elvis: The Story of the Score." During the chat,...

M. Night Shyamalan is a name that is downright synonymous with moviegoing. The filmmaker's career began by being shot out of a cannon, with his studio feature directorial debut, 1999's "The Sixth Sense," becoming an absolute sensation that set sky-high expectations for him. Some even called him the next Steven Spielberg. No pressure!
That's not exactly how things panned out. While Shyamalan did have several other hits with "Unbreakable" and "Signs," even by 2004's "The Village," the whole "where's the twist?" thing had started to catch up to him. The burden of audience expectations was, fair or not, being placed heavily upon his shoulders.
Things really started going sideways with the widely-panned "The Happening," which was followed by his big-budget, back-to-back bad...

With the release of "M3GAN," discourse about MPAA ratings has again reared its ugly head. "M3GAN," which scooped in 45 million worldwide during its opening weekend, is rated PG-13. And that has many horror fans deriding the rating, with some arguing that the film suffers from its lack of an R since much of the gore and violence has been tamed for a younger demographic. That's not to say "M3GAN" doesn't have enough bite. It has plenty. As /Film writer Witney Seibold posits, "M3GAN" has enough "nerve" as a PG-13 film. It doesn't need to be rated R.
When it comes to horror, MPAA ratings have never equated quality. Many horror films have been rated PG, including "Poltergeist," for example, that are still just as effective in their storytelling and supply plenty of thrills and chills. It's a tired argument to suggest horror can only excel with an R-rating. Ultimately, the rating doesn't matter.

Austin Butler never planned to play Elvis Presley in a movie. The "Elvis" star hadn't even been told he resembled the late Rock 'n' Roll singer until a month before he learned about director Baz Luhrmann's ambitious film - a dramatic never-before-told Presley story (which premiered on June 24) starring an ensemble cast comprised of Tom Hanks, Olivia Dejonge, Kelvin Harrison Jr. Alton Mason, and Yola. However, as fate would have it, a series of chance events eventually helped Butler land the role of a lifetime - one that landed him his first-ever Golden Globe win.

Many attribute "Split" to being M. Night Shyamalan's big mainstream comeback after a widely-publicized string of flops, and it's no surprise that the 2016 thriller is given this distinction — it was a box office and critical success, and it was revealed to be a stealth sequel to one of the director's best films. However, the success of "Split" likely would not have been possible without "The Visit," a low-budget horror thriller released the previous year that also was critically and commercially successful. Shot entirely through a found-footage presentation, it followed the exploits of two siblings (Olivia DeJonge and Ed Oxenbould) as they try to figure out what is wrong with their grandparents (Deanna Dunagan and Peter McRobbie) during a five-day vacation.
According to an interview Shyamalan did with MovieWeb back in 2015, "The Visit" had a few different cuts that focused on different elements of the movie. One was a strictly horror-focused cut,...

“I had learned that Elvis’ mother passed away when he was 23,” reveals Austin Butler, who stars as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann‘s biopic of the iconic performer. “It’s the same age I was when my mother died. I ended up waking up from this dream one night, where my mother was dying. I had all this pain inside. I thought, Elvis would have woken up from similar dreams, I’m sure. Suddenly in that moment it was so human. It wasn’t about anything external. It was about the grief of a young man.”

“I’m happy to fill you in on that lengthy, 10-year journey,” jokes “Elvis” producer Gail Berman during our webchat about Baz Luhrmann‘s biopic of Elvis Presley. “I sat with my staff and said, ‘What could we do with Elvis that hasn’t been done before?’ Is it a film? Is it a musical? Is it a play? What is a story there that hasn’t been told? And we came up with a single name. Wouldn’t it be great to see what Baz Luhrmann could do with Elvis?” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
“Elvis” stars Austin Butler as Presley along with Tom Hanks as his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. It follows the music icon through his childhood, becoming a rock and movie star in the 1950s and his death in 1977.
