Epic Rap Battles Of History, the Emmy-nommed digital series that pits figures from pop culture and history against one another in highly-produced hip hop duals, is readying its comeback after an expansive two-year hiatus.
Season six of the series, which is created by Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist -- better known to the channel’s 14 million subscribers as Nice Peter and Epic Lloyd -- is set to bow next spring. The guys teased the return of the series in a video on their channel today (below), which also revealed that fans won’t have to wait until next year for a taste of new content: a bonus episode -- in which Shukoff and Ahlquist will battle against one another as themselves -- is set to drop next Friday.
Epic Rap Battles went on hiatus after its last episode in Jan. 2017 -- in which Shukoff and Ahlquist also faced off against one another.

In a typical round of the popular video game Fortnite: Battle Royale, 100 players drop into a dynamic environment to fight one another until only a single group of survivors remains. In creator Dan Bull's latest video, however, the featured players within a Fortnite game do battle with words rather than weapons. Bull, a Brit known for rapping about nerdy subject matter, collaborated with 99 other creators to launch a "Fortnite Rap Battle Royale."
While some of the creators featured in Bull's collaborations are known for their music, many others ply their respective trades as gamers or vloggers. If you spend a lot of time on YouTube, you'll recognize familiar names like Boogie2988, Jacksfilms, and GassyMexican within Bull's video.

Less than three weeks after delivering its quadrennial election episode, Epic Rap Battles has returned with another fresh installment. This time, the popular web series, which has taken several hiatuses since its 2010 launch, has rolled out an evolution-themed battle, with naturalist Charles Darwin taking on Pokemon protagonist Ash Ketchum.
While the new battle is only Erb’s second battle since it went on hiatus back in July, it shows that series creators Nice Peter and EpicLloyd have not lost their touch. All of the signature Erb elements are in play here, from witty lyrics to the multitudinous historical references to the detailed costumes.
While Erb is now officially back in season after taking a few months off over the summer, its forthcoming schedule may not match the regimented, bi-weekly one of its past. As Nice Peter noted on Twitter, the plan going forward is to release battles as soon as...

Four years ago, the web series Epic Rap Battles of History released an election-themed showdown between Barack Obama against Mitt Romney. The episode ended up being the most successful edition of Erb to date; its 124 million views top all other videos on the popular YouTube channel and the traffic it generated as a single allowed Erb creators “Nice Peter” Shukoff and “EpicLloyd” Ahlquist to hang with the likes of Jay-z and Ludacris on Spotify’s most-shared list.
So naturally, with another big vote on the horizon, Erb brought the two presidential candidates into its ring and had them spit bars in one another’s direction. Shukoff and Ahlquist have premiered the 2016 election edition of Erb, with Ahlquist starring as Donald Trump and Kimmy Gatewood taking on the role of Hillary Clinton. Nine months after the conclusion of its fourth season, Epic Rap Battles of History is back. The popular web series has launched its fifth go-around with a showdown between fantasy authors past and present: In one corner, George R.R. Martin, author of Game of Thrones; in the other, J.R.R. Tolkien, the scribe behind Lord of the Rings.
The new episode is the latest example of Nice Peter and EpicLloyd’s winning formula. As in previous installments, the battle between Tolkien (played by Peter) and Martin (played by Lloyd) features savage disses, plentiful references to each author’s career, and, of course, elaborate costumes. A behind-the-scenes video shows that Lloyd’s Grrm costume took more than four hours to put on.

YouTube has a new way to officially recognize content creators who’ve finally reached the 9-figure subscriber count. At VidCon on July 23, 2015, Google’s online video site revealed its new diamond-level YouTube Play Button award for creators who hit the all-impressive milestone of ten million subscribers.
YouTube’s VP of Product Management Matthew Glotzbach took to the industry stage at the end of the industry track’s closing keynote speech by YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki. Glotzbach explained how YouTube had previously created the silver- and gold-tier Play Button awards (bestowed at 100,000 and one million subscribers respectively), but hadn’t quite foreseen the need for an award for ten million subscribers.
But now, Glotzbach said over 35 different YouTube creators have ten million subscribers or more. Therefore, YouTube created the diamond Play Button, which Glotzbach had Wojcicki unveil on stage in all its sparkly glory.

Lloyd Ahlquist has brought his lyrical knowhow into the spotlight thanks to Epic Rap Battles of History, but he's now looking to showcase his skills in a different format. The man known online as EpicLloyd is planning Epic Studios, a web series created alongside Canadian company iThentic.
In Epic Studios, Ahlquist will portray a down-on-his-luck rapper who looks to turn around his musical career after inheriting a studio from his dead father. A trailer released on iThentic's YouTube channel gives us a taste of the microphone-fumbling, feedback-inducing antics we can expect.
Ahlquist is best known for his work on Erb, with which he and co-creator Peter Shukoff have managed to attract 11.8 million subscribers and 1.5 billion views. With Epic Studios, though, he will take a break from the punchy, two-minute format of Erb in order to explore something a little more long-form. “With the Rap Battles, I get to act in a very specific way,...

For those unlucky few people who aren’t familiar with the YouTube video sensation Epic Rap Battles Of History, here is a brief summary: The series, created by Peter Shukoff (Nice Peter) and Lloyd Ahlquist (epicLLOYD), takes real and fictional characters, from both history and pop culture, and pits them against each other in a hilarious rap battle.
The Epic Rap Battles channel is currently the 14th most subscribed to on YouTube, with over 11 million followers, and the total number of views the videos have gained is over 1.4 billion. This success can be attributed to the videos being not only incredibly funny, but also fantastically written, having great tunes (even for those who aren’t rap’s biggest fans), and some are even educational – did you know Pablo Picasso’s full name? Or the relationship between Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison?

The Walt Disney Company is working hard to welcome Maker Studios (which it acquired in March 2014 for $500 to $950 million) into the Disney family. The two brands partnered to host the #DisneySide All-Star Creator Conference, which took place January 15-18, 2015 at Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney and Maker’s Creator Conference was developed to help inspire and grow the careers of Maker’s 55,000+ content partners as part of the Disney Side initiative. As the event title indicates, the conference boasted seminars, discussions, and presentations about how to succeed online from Maker digital stars such as ShayCarl, Stampylonghead, AlphaCat, Charisma Star, and Nice Peter and EpicLLYOD of Epic Rap Battles of History (a series which is currently on hiatus).
But the All-Star Creator Conference wasn’t limited to only Maker creators. Back in the fall of 2014, Disney invited would-be YouTube celebrities ages 18 and over to submit a video showing their #DisneySide for...

An awesome new episode of Epic Rap Battles of History brilliantly pits Steven Spielberg against Alfred Hitchcock in an extended rap showdown. There are a few extra director cameos in the video that I wasn’t expecting. It is incredibly fun to watch, and the lyrics they spit at each other were entertainingly merciless disses. I enjoy this web-series, but this is definitely one of my favorite episodes. Here is the note that came along with the video:

For its fourth season, Epic Rap Battles of History did away with its biweekly release schedule in order to bring fans a new battle each week. That format succeeded in diminishing the wait between episodes, but it also caused Erb to exhaust its new episodes twice as fast. The extremely popular web series has concluded the first half of its fourth season with a free-for-all among five famous directors. The video is billed as a battle between Steven Spielberg and Alfred Hitchcock, played by Erb co-creators Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist, respectively. In truth, the two-time Oscar winner and the master of suspense only get one verse apiece before ceding the microphone to three more accomplished directors: Quentin Tarantino (played by rapped Wax), Stanley Kubrick (played by an actor who is only credited as "The Ghost of Stanley Kubrick"), and Michael Bay (played by Shukoff). Bay may not have the directorial clout of his competitors,...

Last week, Epic Rap Battles of History began its fourth season with a busy matchup full of guest stars. Thanks to the popular web series' new weekly schedule, a fresh installment of Erb arrived on November 17th, with Hannah Hart and Grace Helbig portraying leading ladies in a battle pitting Bonnie and Clyde against Romeo and Juliet. In the video, Hart plays Bonnie Parker alongside Lloyd Ahlquist's Clyde Barrow; on the other side of the matchup, Helbig's Juliet is paired with Peter Shukoff's Romeo. The battle features everything that makes Erb great, including detailed costumes, a fresh beat, and disses that are both educational and sharp. If the two-and-a-half minute battle doesn't do enough to satiate your Erb appetite, a behind-the-scenes video is available, as always, on the series' secondary channel. And make sure to check back next Monday for a new battle, which is sure to sport...

Season four of Epic Rap Battles of History is live. The newest installment of Nice Peter and EpicLLOYD's hugely popular YouTube series is a busy affair, as the four members of the Ghostbusters take on the cast of Mythbusters. The episode's matchup was spoiled during Erb's season four trailer, in which the ghost of Adolf History got busted. "We were really kind of getting sick of doing Vader vs. Hitler," said Nice Peter in the new battle's behind-the-scenes video. "There's only so many weird Holocaust jokes we feel like making." Instead, Peter and Lloyd opted for what Peter called "one of the most popular suggestions since season one," and as has become the norm with Erb it is full of guest appearances. In July, Epic Rap Battles of History finished off its third season with a battle featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles against their Renaissance namesakes. The Erb channel has been quiet since then, but it returned to action on September 30th to announce an upcoming fourth season. Erb will begin its new round of battles on November 10th, and the channel will quicken its pace by switching to a weekly schedule. Previously, Erb rolled out new episodes on a bi-weekly basis. That selective schedule was part of Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist's plan to keep their new battles fresh and exciting, as explained by a New York Times profile of the duo that ran last October. The new weekly schedule could mean more battles from the Erb channel, though Shukoff and Ahlquist haven't indicated how many episodes season four will contain. It took us two weeks to release our Tmnt special due to many technical difficulties during recording, and again while editing. Over the past few decades, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have become a triumph of marketing and licensing. Epic Rap Battles Of History is two-thirds of the way through its current six-episode run, and the newest installment brings in one of the show's biggest guest stars to date. The last Epic Rap Battle of History the internet laid witness to debuted back in December 2013 and pitted Ebenezer Scrooge against Donald Trump. The next Epic Rap Battle of History the internet will lay witness to won’t be released until May 2014, but it’s poised to be as impressively great as ever. Theodore Roosevelt announced on the Erb YouTube channel that the sporadic, but still incredibly popular series will commence Season 3.5 on May 5 and consist of no less than six new biweekly installments. Those installments will also feature the likes of Weird Al (as we don’t know what yet), Smosh (as Cinderella’s Seven Dwarfs), Rhett & Link (as we don’t know what yet, either), Walter White (played by we don’t know who, but I’m guessing Erb co-creator Peter Shukoff), Goku (played by we don’t know who, but I’m guessing Erb co-creator Lloyd Ahlquist), and more.

More than four months after Epic Rap Battles Of History's second season wrapped up with an all-Russian showdown, Nice Peter and Epic Lloyd have posted a video announcing the arrival of season three. The first of the new batch of episodes will arrive on October 7, and as the video notes, "this time...it's pretty much exactly the same." There's no word yet on which battles will be included in season three, but judging by the appearance of Vader and Hitler in the promo, Peter and Lloyd are clearly planning to run that classic battle for the third time. Though it hasn't posted an episode in a while, Epic Rap Battles of History has had a great summer, surpassing both six and seven million subscribers in the span of a couple of months. Currently, Erb has an impressive 7.1 million subs, good for 10th best on YouTube (disregarding the site's auto-sub channels). Most impressive,...

Nice Peter, the songwriter behind "Epic Rap Battles Of History" and "Bald Guy," is back with a new picture song – where he gives voice to our favorite viral photos – and this one is glorious.

Epic Rap Battles of History concluded it’s 13-month-long, 18-episode second season with a battle between Russians that does the series’ name justice. The 16 million views and counting sendoff featuring Grigori Rasputin, Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Vladimir Putin added to the program’s two-season cumulative viewcount of over 1.2 billion and helped drive YouTube.com/Erb’s subscriber base pass the 5.5 million subs mark. To commemorate the occasion Erb is selling a Limited Edition Season 2 CD. It consists of all 12 battles, a 40-page lyric booklet, an official Erb voting ballot, stickers, and remastered tracks. And to get fans pumped for Season 3 (which Teddy Roosevelt tells us will debut sometime this Autumn), Erb creators Nice Peter and Epic Lloyd are inviting one lucky fan (and one lucky fan’s special guest) to join them on set. Here’s Roosevelt with the details

Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist, known to their fans as Nice Peter and EpicLLOYD, are more popular on YouTube than Ellen DeGeneres, Psy and Justin Bieber. Their channel, "Epic Rap Battles of History," has amassed more than 5.4 million subscribers thanks to videos of the two rappers dueling as Adolf Hitler, Darth Vader, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. While not as rich as Gates or infamous as Hitler, the duo serves as another prime example of how YouTube has turned aspiring entertainers into beloved cultural figures. Shukoff and Ahlquist aired the first episodes in...

Some of the biggest names in stand-up and internet comedy were out Sunday night (May 19) for YouTube's Big Live Comedy Show. The event, produced by Jash, kicks off Comedy Week for the website, which will see the release of new sketches and music videos from Sarah Silverman, Ricky Gervais, the Upright Citizens Brigade and many more.

Jeff Ross: I used to love Cheech & Chong and Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin, all the rock star comics. I didn't even know they were comedians, I just thought they were rock stars.
Epic Rap Battles of History:Epic Lloyd: Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Steven Wright.

The Big Live Comedy Show is here. After weeks of hype, promos, and TV spots, YouTube Comedy Week has arrived, with some of the biggest stars in both new and traditional media taking to the Internet for a live streaming kick-off show. The slogan for the week-long event is "this better be funny," and the Big Live Comedy Show is our first chance to see if Comedy Week will be as macho as Arnold Schwarzenegger made it seem or just a big waste of time and talent. Of course, considering the amazing roster of participants, 'funny' seems more likely than 'not funny'. ShayCarl has always been very animated, but now he's becoming...animated. The top vlogger is one of the Maker Studios creators involved in Cartoonium, a new YouTube destination serving up kids' cartoons in partnership with multi-platform animation channel Kabillion. Cartoonium's content will be a blend of established Kabilllion shows and original series featuring Maker talent. At launch, three cartoons--Code Lyoko, Mix Master, and Bobby's World--are available for viewing, with 13 full episodes available for each cartoon. In a 40th video, ShayCarl describes his offering, Shay Beard, which will debut soon and will feature the Maker co-founder as a "beard", a "shay" and a "Viking on the sea." Sounds like an easy sell to me. Cartoonium has been in the works for a long time, as the partnership between Maker and Kabillion was forged back in 2011. Back then, Nice Peter was another one of the leading multi-channel network's creators who...

Nice Peter, the guy behind Epic Rap Battles of History, has recently had to deal with a troubling fact: he's going bald. But rather than sit around and wait for it like a chump, he decided to face baldness head on and shave his head. Naturally, the only way for Nice Peter to take that leap, was with a song.
Watch above as this brave young man has his head shaved while singing the "Bald Guy Song".

Vanilla Ice: Rapper, reality show star and ... YouTube star? Maybe someday soon!
The singer, born Rob Van Winkle, performed with some of YouTube's biggest musical stars at the Hollywood Palladium Sunday night for the 3rd Annual Streamy Awards, which celebrates the best of online programming. The collaboration was an anxious affair though because he had only met crooner Chester See, musician Mike Tompkins and Epic Rap Battles of History's Nice Peter the night before. "We had no game plan but put everything together last night. It was so sloppy, I can't even tell you," Van Winkle told TVGuide.com....

Vanilla Ice kicks off the first verse of his song that cemented his status as a true pop music legend with the following words: “All right stop, collaborate, and listen.” We at Tubefilter and the Streamy Awards like those lyrics and their message. A lot. Rip Van Winkle, who sold 11 million copies of his debut album To the Extreme under the moniker of Vanilla Ice will be taking the stage to perform a few of his perennial hits alongside a set of YouTube’s and online video’s most notable musicians, including Chester See, DeStorm, the duo from Epic Rap Battles of History (aka Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist), and Mike Tompkins...
