Indie feature Zelos is somewhat of anomaly in Australian cinema — it.s a film helmed predominantly by women, including a female director, co-producers, writer, cinematographer and editor. .
The film is the feature debut of director Jo-Anne Brechin, who first met writer Claire Harris when studying screenwriting at Aftrs in 2013.
.I remember hearing her pitch [Zelos] in class and just being like, .let.s do that together,.. Brechin told If.
They formed a pact to make the film when Harris finished the screenplay; a vision that has now come to fruition, with Zelos.currently in post.
A coming of age story, Zelos follows 30-something Bernard (Ben Mortley, Lantana, McLeod.s Daughters) who feels he has his life set up. He.s got a successful career, beachside apartment and a girlfriend, Sarah, who he adores.
However, his life is turned upside down when Sarah (Shannon Ashlyn, Wolf Creek 2, Love Child) confesses to having an affair overseas.

I rented Wolf Creek 2 twice when it hit VOD recently. In my opinion, it is one of the best horror sequels we’ve been given for a while, and it was so insane, that it instantly secured itself a spot on my top 10 of the year list, regardless of what happens between now and then. Whereas the first film was a slow burn film in the style of Hostel, Part 2 starts crazy, and remains so throughout the duration of the film. Some of the set pieces are so epic, that it really felt like something that should have been given a wide theatrical release. The bad news is that you won’t be seeing Wolf Creek 2 at your local theater, but the good news is that you’ll be seeing it on your TV sooner than you’d think. On June 24th Image Entertainment is releasing the film to DVD & Blu-ray.

Mick Taylor: the man’s name can send a shiver down an Outback traveler’s spine, and the man himself has no problem cutting into that same spine with his hunting knife. Wolf Creek 2
Starring John Jarratt, Ryan Corr, Philippe Klaus, Shannon Ashlyn, Shane Connor
Directed by Greg McLean
Screenplay by Greg McLean
2014, Australia
One thing is absolutely clear…American (among others) macabre movie-making certainly does not have the exclusive fingerprints on depravity when it comes to butchering badasses and their perverse hankering for some naughty, nightmarish activities. Enter Australia’s resident psychopath Mick Taylor (John Jarratt), the demented Down Under dude with the penchant for murderous mayhem in the disturbingly inspired indie horror vehicle ‘Wolf Creek 2′.
Writer-director Greg McLean once again takes audiences on a warped journey into the Australian Outback where notorious pig farmer-turned-serial killing menace Mick Taylor continues his sinister carnage in the middle of nowhere as senseless slayings are strangely carried out by the brutal bushwacker. In 2005′s ‘Wolf Creek’, Mick had the blood-thirsty penchant for targeting unsuspecting tourists while chopping his two-legged prey to smithereens.

Greg Mclean.s Wolf Creek 2 opened in 10 cinemas in the Us last Friday, one month after being released on Video-on-Demand platforms.
Distributors such as Magnolia-on-Demand routinely release films in the Ultra-VoD window, figuring the upside is greater than a conventional cinema release followed by VoD and DVD.
Consumers pay a premium price of $US9.99 to watch a film on VoD before it.s released in cinemas. The VoD fee reverts to the regular $5 when the film opens theatrically. Producer Helen Leake is waiting to get the VoD buy-rates from Image Entertainment.
According to Rentrak, the Wolf Creek sequel took just $US1,822 in its first three days at 10 locations. However as Mclean has noted, the primary purpose of the theatrical exposure is to support the premium VoD and regular VoD release.
There was a mixed response from Us critics to the serial killer saga starring John Jarratt, Ryan Corr, Shannon Ashlyn and Philippe Klaus.

The Australian outback is as beautiful as it is dangerous, and filmmaker Greg Mclean chilled audiences by emphasizing the latter in 2005's "Wolf Creek." That movie introduced the world to the deranged Mick Taylor (played with glee by John Jarrat) and nearly a decade later, he's back with another horrific tale from Down Under. "Wolf Creek 2" this time finds Mick terrorizing the young, wide-eyed, city slickers Rutger (Phillipe Klaus) and Katarina (Shannon Ashlyn), backpacking in the great wide open as they explore the "real" Australia. But soon, things turn very grim and very bloody. And in this exclusive clip, we see Mick up to some new games, as has Paul (Ryan Corr) held hostage and offers him a chance to play a quiz....one with some fairly deadly consequences. It's twisted stuff, but fans of the genre will likely be delighted. "Wolf Creek 2" opens this Friday, May 16th.

I vaguely remember seeing Wolf Creek a year or two after its release. The only things that stick in my mind of Greg Mclean's feature film debut are that it was gruesome and brutal and just a little disturbing. I haven't felt the need to re-watch Wolf Creek or check out Mclean's second feature Rogue, but now that I've dipped into Wolf Creek 2, I can't help but wonder if I wrote off the first movie, along with the killer crocodile follow-up, too quickly because if such a thing as an artistic horror movie exists, Wolf Creek 2 is it.

Mick Taylor is back to his tourist-killing ways in Wolf Creek 2 and, with the movie hitting Us VOD services next week, we caught up with John Jarratt for the latest segment in our Q&A series. In this feature, John Jarratt talks about who inspired his portrayal of Mick Taylor, what he’s working on next, and he shares one of his favorite on-set moments from Wolf Creek 2:
In both Wolf Creek films you do a wonderful job of balancing between a kind, happy-go-lucky guy and a menacing, maniacal guy. How do you prepare for a character like Mick? How do you find that balance?
John Jarratt: The happy go lucky guy is an impersonation of my father who was a fun loving outback, knock about, guy. Just add menacing and maniacal and you’ve made Mick.

I know some people greatly dislike Greg Mclean’s Wolf Creek. If I had to take a guess as to why, it would be because it was released right around the height of the “torture porn” craze. When Saw and Hostel made it popular, studios cashed in with both super-low-budget features, and features with a decent budget. Wolf Creek was different, to me. It wasn’t just another “torture porn” film. It was part of the Ozploitation resurgence that occurred during the mid-to-late portion of the last decade. It was stunningly photographed, and oozing with atmosphere. It featured a solid slow-burning pace, where at any moment, you felt, things could go from bad to worse in any imaginable way. It also featured John Jarratt as one of the most terrifyingly charismatic psychopaths to hit the screen in the last couple of decades. It was slow, however. So, people of the...

Director: Greg Mclean. Writers: Greg Mclean and Aaron Sterns. Cast: John Jarratt, Ryan Corr, and Shannon Ashlyn. It is almost always a good thing to a see a film well before its release date. Sometimes, this opportunity will act as a warning and sometimes as encouragment, for horror fans to see the film. For Wolf Creek 2, it is the second scenario. This slasher film, which is loosely based on the victims of serial killer Ivan Milat, is a truly unsettling film. Full of gruesome imagery, Wolf Creek 2 is blood-soaked and ready to thrill. This sequel is much bigger than the first film, especially in settings and this viewer would recommend Wolf Creek 2 to most horror fans. The story for the film is similar to the first. Serial killer Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) is stalking the Wolf Creek Crater in Australia, in search of murder victims. Mick uses...

Wolf Creek 2 is a sequel which has been in the works for quite some time. The original film was released in 2005. This title has been in development for at least five years, with financial troubles hampering production. But now, Mick Taylor (John Jarratt), the feared serial killer of the Australian outback, is ready to begin a second wave of terror. Some of that terror can be seen in the first trailer for Wolf Creek 2, which is hosted below. This time around, Mick is still stalking the Wolf Creek Crater. He is hunting for a group of backpackers: Rutger (Phillipe Klaus), Katarina (Shannon Ashlyn) and Paul (Ryan Corr). His prey escapes his trap. And soon, Mick is in hot pursuit, down the barren backroads of the desolate outback, in search of more murder. The first trailer shows Mick hunting these characters. The clip also reveals some of Mick's stranger beliefs.

As promised today saw the arrival of the new and official trailer for writer/director Greg Mclean's horror follow-up 'Wolf Creek 2'. The outback-based sequel which arrives in Aussie theatres next February sees the maniacal murderer Mick Taylor (played by John Jarratt) sets his sickening sights on more unlucky backpackers. Having never particularly been a fan of the original from way back in 2005 the promise of more of the same, at least from seeing the trailer, isn't an overly tantilising prospect. Ryan Corr, Shannon Ashlyn and Philipe Klaus all star in the sequel. Check out the new trailer below and see what you think....

An Australian one-sheet for Greg Mclean's new, and probably unnecessary, outback slasher sequel 'Wolf Creek 2' has arrived courtesy of the fellas over at Shock Till You Drop. We're hoping this is an early and quickly knocked up version because it screams amateur travel programme rather than blood curdling horror. In addition to the poster arrival Roadshow Films have announced that they'll be unveiling the trailer for the project on 21 October. 'Wolf Creek 2' star Ryan Corr, Shannon Ashlyn, Philipe Klaus and sees the return of John Jarratt as outback maniac Mick Taylor. Head below to check out the new poster....

Greg Mclean, creator of Wolf Creek and the upcoming sequel, is determined to avoid being pigeonholed as the guy who makes scary movies about a serial killer.
As a writer, director and executive producer, Mclean is developing a raft of projects which span diverse genres and should demonstrate he.s equally adept at family films as horror/thrillers.
The filmmaker has joined the agency CAA after leaving Wma, is fielding several offers and hopes to settle on his next directing assignment within a few weeks.
Hugo Weaving is attached to star in One Foot Wrong as the father of a five-year-old girl who makes friends and communicates with inanimate objects like trees and spoons. Mclean wrote the screenplay based on a novel by Sophie Laguna and he will executive produce, working with producers Bianca Martino and Ayisha Davies. Serial killer Mick Taylor is back- and it seems he.s even scarier and more brutal.
Wolf Creek 2, the sequel to Greg Mclean.s 2005 hit horror movie, had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Friday.
The first few reviews generally are pretty positive, paying tribute to Mclean.s direction and the performances of John Jarratt as Taylor and Ryan Corr as his principal victim. However all found fault with aspects of the film, which Roadshow will release in February.
The screenplay by Mclean and horror novelist Aaron Sterns follows Taylor as he encounters three backpackers, a Pom and two Germans, played by Corr, Shannon Ashlyn and Philippe Klaus, in the Outback.
.Though showing a smidgen of mercy to female members of the cast, possibly to counteract accusations of misogyny in No. 1, Wolf Creek 2 knows better than to deviate from the classic scenario of a mad...

Screen Australia says it has not mismanaged its finances by spending its annual production funding in just six months - a state of affairs which it says reflects the strength of the local film industry.
The government screen agency revealed in mid-December 2012 that it had spent its entire annual $42 million drama production allocation due to the unprecedented number of quality feature film and television projects seeking support. The shock announcement was reminiscent of the agency's abrupt decision to cut its investment cap in 2009 while several films were mid-financed. That decision.threw several major Australian productions into dissaray including The Tree and the biggest box office hit of.2010, Tomorrow When the War Began (Omnilab Media had to increase its investment at the last minute to ensure production).
Overspending on such a scale has never occurred before, even going back to the era of Screen Australia.s predecessor funding arm, the Film Finance Corporation.
