John Adam Gallegos
- Additional Crew
- Visual Effects
- Second Unit Director or Assistant Director
John was raised on the north side of Chicago,
Illinois. He and his family lived here for about five years until they
moved to Skokie, IL, where John spent most of his childhood playing Ice
Hockey as well as developing a career in close up magic. John was
always a highly imaginative child. His whole life he had been seeing
things as though it was a movie. John recalls thinking that when a VHS
tape was put in the VCR, that the movie would actually come to life and
perform just for you. John still possess those particular qualities to
this day (only it turns out there was no crew of actors performing live
after all).
It wasn't until sometime after John's time in high-school that he really discovered a talent for being able to see things in a visual sense and be able to adapt them into concrete material that he could hold in his hands and see before him.
At the age of 19 John began to study Visual Effects, Motion Graphics and 3D Animation at the Illinois Institute of Art in Schaumburg, IL. The experience he had here was unlike anything that he had experienced before. The community that is the art scene was somewhat foreign to John up until this point. Additionally, while on campus, John took his first ever digital film and photography class where he was first asked to create a conceptual series of images that would turn into a 5 minute short film. While in attendance in this particular class John developed a heavy knowledge of still and motion photography. Before this, the only thing close to filmmaking or photography that he had ever dabbled in would just be little bits of random snapshots here and there for fun... Nothing to be considered worth showcasing. John loved every aspect of the creative process that was involved making elusive imagery and saw great potential in this artistic process. Immediately I was inspired to create more...
Riding the tail coats of George Meiles, John then moved his studies to film. He transferred over to Columbia College in Chicago, IL where he graduated with highest honors and received a bachelors degree in Film & Video. Columbia pushed John's efforts as an artist to the next level. It challenged him and provided him with the tools to deliver messages to the world through the through the lens and into the audience.
Entering the real world after films school was a true blessing for John. One single experience can snowball a series of events (for the good or the bad) and John would not be who he is today without the help and support from those around him. He has had the pleasure of working with some amazing film crews, artists, companies and studios including Sony, Fox, CBS, Warner Brothers, Treehouse Pictures, Facebook, The Style Network and The Food Network.
John loves every aspect of visual story telling. But first and foremost he considers himself an "artist" above all titles. He now lives in Northwestern Illinois where he spends most of my free time with his family , watching old films, reading, writing, hiking, thinking and creating.
Throughout the entirety of his career as an artist he has taken on a diverse spectrum of titles ranging from Production Assistant - to Photographer - to Producer and everywhere in-between.
