Janet Devlin has revealed that she feels like she was forced to cry on The X Factor.

The 19-year-old, who appeared on the ITV show in 2011, told Metro that producers pushed her to show emotion at the judges' houses stage of the competition.

"I was on that roof [in Miami] for several hours," she said. "I was being quite emotionless, which got on their nerves. They said, 'How do you expect anyone to connect with you unless you let your guard down?' Eventually, I cried. It was horrible."

Devlin also opened up about losing her grandfather during her time on the show, saying: "They asked what happened, I cried, and that was it. I needed to address it because the fact he'd passed away had already trended on Twitter.

X Factor contestants Janet Devlin and Amelia Lily have hit back at claims that they are too young to compete on the show. The 16-year-old singers stated that people should not assume that they will buckle under pressure just because of their age. "I don't think it's about how old you are," Devlin told The Mirror. The X Factor finalist Frankie Cocozza already has over 100,000 followers on Twitter. The 18-year-old singer has nearly 105,000 supporters for his official @FrankieCocozza account, way ahead of any of his rivals on the ITV1 talent show. Janet Devlin and Amelia Lily are the closest acts to Cocozza with 52,000 and 17,000 followers respectively. Janet Devlin is the 11/4 favourite to win The X Factor, with William Hill taking their first four-figure bet on the Northern Irish singer. The 16-year-old, who is one of the eight female singers in Kelly Rowland's category, currently leads the field, with fellow category member Amelia Lily offered at 5/1 with the bookmaker. Hills confirmed that a £1,000 bet was placed on Devlin - who wowed the Wembley Arena audience with her performance of Aerosmith's 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' - to win at 3/1, in one of their Dublin shops.
